He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Ann Potter of Martinsburg; two sons, Carl Chiveral of Charles Town and David Chiveral Jr. of Kearneysville; two sisters, Vicky Franey and Frances McKenzie, both of Baltimore; a brother, Walter Chiveral of Front Royal, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Martinsburg. Burial will be private.

Jean L. Couchman
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jean L. Couchman, 70, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at her home.
Born June 4, 1928, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ralph L. and Lucy Oliver Long Sr.
She was a 1946 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a 1949 graduate of Kings Daughters Hospital School of Nursing. She studied at Shepherd Pratt Psychiatric Hospital in Baltimore and pediatrics at the University of Maryland. She also attended Shepherd College, Hagerstown Junior College and West Virginia School of Nursing.
She was employed at Kings Daughters Hospital and at Martinsburg Veterans Hospital. She joined the Berkeley County Health Department in 1966. In 1968 she became the nurse coordinator of the Eastern Panhandle Pediatric Heart Clinic. She retired as a Berkeley County public health nurse.
She also was an educator in the field of home nursing through American Red Cross.
As a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she worked with youth programs. She was a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, choir director and Bible School director. She had been president of Berkeley County Church Women United and was active in Women of ELCA.
She was a Girl Scout leader, 4-H Club leader and All Star. She served as camp nurse at 4-H camps. A member of Martinsburg High School Alumni Association, she served on its board of directors and had held many offices, including president. She received the Outstanding Alumna Award in 1996. She was an honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and won the First Lady Award.
She was instrumental in developing the Child Protection Team in the Eastern Panhandle. She also spearheaded a Teen Hotline telephone service in Berkeley County. She had delivered Meals on Wheels and visited nursing homes.
She is survived by her husband, Max N. Couchman; two daughters, Kandi C. Ruth of Martinsburg and Judy C. Pittinger of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two brothers, Ralph "Bud" Long of Martinsburg and Oliver "Pete" Long of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, with a nursing memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Albert W. Buxton
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Albert William Buxton, 85, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Born March 5, 1913, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Laura M. Kees Buxton.
He had been employed as a meat cutter for Cages Store in Martinsburg.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by one nephew, J. Alonzo Karns of Martinsburg; one niece, Mary Louise Hollis of Inwood, W.Va.; and three great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances Karns and Ella L. "Red" Mason.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. Pastor Mason Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.

Robert R. Hilton
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Robert R. "Bobby" Hilton, 66, of Charles Town, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Dec. 18, 1931, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Reeves R. and Jeannette Lowery Hilton.
He was a graduate of Gonzaga High School, Washington, D.C.
He was an owner and trainer of thoroughbred race horses for 45 years. He was recently honored with his 2,500th winner of his career at Charles Town Races.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member and former president of the Charles Town Division of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association.
He served with the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Naval Reserves.
He is survived by one daughter, Ellen H. Walters of Charles Town; his former wife, Ann B. Hilton of Charles Town; and two granddaughters, Samantha J. Walters and Vanessa L. Walters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town. The Rev. Brian Owens will be celebrant. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Bruce William Caton, 69, of Martinsburg, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born May 21, 1929, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John G. and Sarah Snyder Caton.
He retired from Corning Glass Works.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Shepherd Caton, at home; two daughters, Robin Little of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Shelly Deeds of Martinsburg; three sons, Michael Caton, Mark Caton and Todd Caton, all of Martinsburg; one sister, Margaret Hess of Martinsburg; 13 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Rockwell; and three brothers, John Caton, Charles Caton and Wayne Caton.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. Pastor John Shepherd will officiate with Pastor Jim Shepherd assisting. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral chapel today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Henry J. Keesecker
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Henry J. "Brownie" Keesecker, 61, of Martinsburg, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at his home.
Born May 16, 1937, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jacob and Lucy Hansrote Keesecker.
He retired from West Virginia Department of Highways.
He was a member of Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Bell Keesecker; one daughter, Kimberly Keesecker of Martinsburg; one son, Kevin Keesecker of Martinsburg; two brothers, Isaac "Ike" Keesecker of Logan, W.Va., and Thelmer Hansrote of Illinois; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Angela Dawn Keesecker; four sisters, Edna Gantt, Marie Good, Leona Keesecker and Rachel Siford; and two brothers, Jacob Hansrote and Jack Hansrote.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. L. Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Allensville cemetery, west of Hedgesville, W.Va.

Juanita D. Shade
MIDDLETOWN, Del. - Juanita Decker Shade, 85, of Middletown, and Arlington, Va., and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at the home of her son, Daniel D. Shade.
Born June 3, 1913, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ira Victor and Ivy Fortney Decker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Newton James Shade.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Gauer of Eaton, Ohio; two sons, Victor Shade of St. George, Utah, and Daniel Shade of Middletown; one sister, Selma Hayden of McLean, Va.; 23 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Philip Shade and Jon Scott Shade; one sister, Ruth Decker; and one brother, Charles Decker.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Martinsburg. Bishop Michael Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Queens Point cemetery, Keyser, Wednesday at 3 p.m.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Thesta Almeda "Flo" Cookus, 83, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at City Hospital. She had been a resident of Canterbury Nursing Home, Shepherdstown, W.Va.
Born Dec. 24, 1914, in Falling Waters, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Koontz and Ellen Elizabeth Dunkle Perrell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reynolds Cookus; and by her first husband, Franklin D. Orndorff.
She was formerly employed at Interwoven Mills, Corning Glass Works, Carol Electronics and C.H. Musselman Co.
She was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a son, Franklin D. Orndorff Jr. of Falling Waters; a stepson, Kenneth E. Cookus of Martinsburg; a sister, Marie Nisewarner of Martinsburg; a brother, Daniel Perrell of Falling Waters; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Daisy Sullivan, Mae Strine and Margie Reed; and five brothers, Adam, Reuben, Woodrow, Ray and Merle Perrell.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Keith G. Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony cemetery, Marlowe, W.Va.
