A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 1999 at 1:00 P.M. from Olivet Monumental Baptist Church with burial in New Castle Cemetery. Survivors include: daughters, Alma Walker of New Castle, AL, Catherine Coleman of Boston, MA, Elizabeth Robinson and Inell Goldsby, both of Birmingham; sons, Samuel (Ruby) Walker and Patrick Walker of Birmingham; Keith Walker of New Castle, AL; sisters, Clemmie Goldsmith of Boston, MA, Annie Mae Sheffield, Nancy Lee McReynolds, Savannah Henderson, Margaret Miles, Alice Means and Frances Anderson; brother, Willie Goldsmith; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Smith & Gaston South Side directing.

Sloan, James William, age 80, of Warrior, died December 15, 1999. He was a retired self-employed Tile Setter. Funeral services will be Friday, December 17, at 2 p.m. at Blackwood Chapel with burial in Calcedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 16, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Blackwood Chapel. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Sloan. Survivors: wife, Opal Sloan; son, Wayne Sloan; sisters, Versie and Yvonne Sloan, Opal Wakeland, all of Warrior, Bertie Stone of Spruce Pine, Berthie Mullinex of Washington; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Scott, Maggie S., 80 of Birmingham. Funeral service will be held on June 19, 1999 at 12 Noon at First Baptist Acipco, with burial in Zion Memorial. Survivors: four daughters, Willie (Oliver) Roland; Nadine Scott, Sherry (James) Nelson, Murriel (Daryl) Porter; three sons, Earnest Lee Scott, James (Callie) Scott; Theodis Scott; sister, Ida Mae Scott; host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Stockley, Robert Lee, age 89, of Trafford, Alabama, died Tuesday, December 14, 1999. Visitation at Messmer-Goodwin on Thursday, December 16, 1999 between 5:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. Chapel service Friday, December 17th, beginning at 3:00 P.M. Pat Melvin officiating. Burial in Trafford Cemetery (Trafford). Preceded in death by his wife, Ila Mae Stockley; and a daughter, Sandy Lou Aizelan. Survivors: daughters, Ina Joyce of Pleasant Grove, Ala., and Alice Nell of OR; son, Robert Lee Stockley of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; brother, Warren Sandy Stockley of Trafford, Ala. He is also survived by: six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Messmer-Goodwin Funeral Home directing.

Paige, Mrs. Augusta Hawkins, age 49 of Cleveland, Ohio, a former native of Jefferson, AL, passed June 11, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19 at 1:00 p.m. at First Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Jefferson, Alabama. Rev. Richard Fountain, officiant. Interment will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Alabama. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Whisenhunt, Wayne Sterling, age 61, of Margaret, AL, died December 15, 1999. Mr. Whisenhunt was a retired Birmingham Police Sergeant with 40 years of service. He was a member of the Retired Police Officer's Association. He is survived by: wife, Jacqueline Sue Whisenhunt; daughters, Linda W. Wagner (Ken) of Duluth, GA; Tracy W. Moss (Buddy) of Pell City, AL; Carmen W. Lowe (Daryl) of Birmingham, AL; Kim W. Passmore (David) of Birmingham, AL; Dana Whisenhunt of Birmingham, AL; stepsons, Charles S. Gibbs, Jr. (Rose) of Fresno, TX; Michael R. Gibbs of Millry, AL; Mark C. Gibbs (Peggy) of Birmingham, AL; John E. Gibbs of Birmingham, AL; twelve grandchildren; three brothers; five sisters. Services Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Roebuck Chapel, with burial at Low Gap Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Roebuck Chapel. Campbell, Orville, age 56, of Birmingham, died June 17, 1999. He was a native of Marshall County, graduated from Birmingham School of Law and attended the University of Alabama and Yale. He was a member of Birmingham and Alabama Bar Associations, an Air Force Veteran, and a longtime volunteer fireman in Cullman County. He was retired from BellSouth and was practicing law in Birmingham with his son, Daniel. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 19, 1999 at 2:00pm from Jefferson Memorial Chapel in Trussville with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be held Saturday, 11am-2pm. Survivors include: wife, Gloria Wright Campbell of Birmingham; sons, David Campbell (Kitty), Montgomery, Daniel Campbell (Kathy), Dora; mother-in-law, Naomi Wright Bramlett of Birmingham; sisters, Jeanine McCrary, Scottsboro, AL, Marie Lawrence, Arab, AL, and Earnestine Cook, Hot Rock, Tennessee; brothers, Gene Campbell, Arab, AL, Buford Campbell, Huntsville, AL and Stanley Campbell, Albertville, AL; grandchildren, Christian, Ginny, Joshua, and Leland Campbell; and many friends. Turner, Mr. Shell, age 74 of Birmingham, AL; a former native of Boligee, Alabama passed June 9, 1999 at the Beverly Glenn East Nursing Home, Birmingham, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Valley Baptist Church, Boligee, AL. Rev. Curtis Waiters, Officiant. Mathis, Cleo, age 89, of Palmerdale, AL, died December 15, 1999. He was a member of Palmerdale Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held Friday, December 17, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville. Randy Pope presiding. Burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Visitation Thursday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Survivors: daughter, Alfretta Wills of Fultondale, AL; son, Fred Mathis of Morris, AL; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Moss, Helen Nice, age 88, a lifelong resident of Birmingham, died December 15, 1999. She was born on August 16, 19ll, the daughter of Dr. & Mrs.Charles M. Nice of Birmingham, and was preceded in death by her husband, Howard K. Moss, who had coal mining interests in Alabama. Mrs. Moss was a graduate of Phillips High School, attended Sweet Briar College and graduated from Birmingham-Southern College. She was a member of South Highland Presbyterian Church where she had been christened as a child and where she was married in 1935. She was a member of the Vanguard Class at South Highland. She was also a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, The Club, the Window Box Garden Club, and the Maskers. She is survived by two daughters, and sons-in-law, Marion & Fred Miles of Birmingham, Helen "Putzie" & Ron Wright of St. Cloud, Fla.; grandchildren, Howard Moss Miles of Birmingham, Richard Miles of Ballground, Ga., Sheldon Ford of Jackson, Miss., Tamatha Wicker of Vero Beach, Fla., and Ronald Wright, Jr. of St. Cloud, Fla.; sister, Mrs. William Walker Jemison, Sr. of Birmingham; brother and sister-in-law, Judge & Mrs. Charles M. Nice of Birmingham; and eight grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 Friday, December 17th at South Highland Presbyterian Church. Dr. Dana Waters officiating, with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Johns-Ridout's Southside directing.

Watters, Lillie, age 67 of Birmingham, Alabama, a former native of Demopolis, Alabama passed June 11, 1999 in Demopolis, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, at 2:30 p.m. at Larkin & Scott Funeral Home Chapel, Demopolis, Alabama. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Avery, Mrs. Virginia, age 76, of Forestdale, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 1999. The visitation will be held on Friday, June 18, from 5 until 7 PM at Elmwood Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 19, at Elmwood Chapel with burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Survivors include: husband, Otho Thomas (O.T.) Avery, Jr., of Forestdale; brother, John Mark Nichols, Jr., of Palmerdale. She was a longtime member of Ruffner Valley Baptist Church. Although they had no children, she and O.T. provided a loving home for James Thomas Nichols, Vicki Nichols Self, and Leigh Cannon Wyman, after the loss of their mother. Aunt Jenny, as she was known by most everyone, dedicated her life to nurturing the children in the family. She was considered by many as a second mother. The times she really enjoyed were when family members were visiting her and enjoying the meals she prepared. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Elmwood Chapel.
