James Gerald Brazwell

James Gerald "Jerry" Brazwell, 71, a resident of McKenzie, Ala., died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, in an Evergreen hospital after an extended illness.

He was employed for many years with Modern Homes and Equipment in Mobile, Ala.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2008, from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Herring officiating.

Burial will take place in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana, Ala., directing.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Brazwell of McKenzie; daughter, Teresa Prince of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Lynn Brazwell of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael Brazwell, Matthew Prince, Andrew Prince, Bianca Bradford, and Sandy Thompson.

Visitation was held on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.

Joyce Lynell Pierce

Joyce Lynell Pierce, 63, a resident of Red Level, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 29, 2008, from the Vera Cruz Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana directing.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sabina and Mike Mann of Trussville; son, Rodney Shelton Pierce of Georgiana; father, Madison H. Cook of Red Level; Shelton Pierce of Georgiana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna and Durwood Cross of Enterprise, Betty Watson of Brewton, and Jane and Bill Sellers of Red Level; grandsons, Aaron Pierce, Blake Pierce, M.J. Mann, and Matt Mann.

Jerry Beard

BEARD, Jerry E., 68, died peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2006, at a Montgomery health care facility. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend Bob Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. At the time of his death, Mr. Beard was the Superintendent at Woolard Brothers’s Construction in Montgomery, AL. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Allee; one sister, Joann Beard; one brother, Earl C. Beard, Jr., and his step-mother, Wilma C. Beard. He is survived by one daughter, Crystal Bennett, Montgomery, AL; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Richard and Kim Beard, Folsom, CA; two grandchildren, Casey Lynn Bennett, Auburn, AL, and Cody Tyler Bennett, Wetumpka, AL; his father, Earl C. Beard, Sacramento, CA; and one sister and brother-in-law, Devra and Tom Brown, Auburn, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society, 3054 C. McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Jerome Paul Compton, Sr.

Jerome Paul (Jerry) Compton, Sr., age 70, passed away February 15, 2008, after being diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) in August 2007. He was born in Leeds, Alabama, and was a longtime resident of Georgiana, Alabama, where he was an executive (and later co-owner) with Nightingale Uniform Company for more than 40 years. He was the son of Joseph Vidmer Compton, Sr., and Nina Pauline Schrader Compton and was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Lou Compton Burke.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Anne Blackmon Compton, two children, J. Paul Compton, Jr., Birmingham, Alabama, and Anne Blackmon Compton Burke, Athens, Alabama; their spouses Dana R. Compton and John A. Burke; five grandchildren, J. Radford Burke, Eleanor C. Burke, Catherine J. Compton, J. P. Compton III and Anne S. Compton; two brothers, Joseph V. Compton, Jr., Mobile, Alabama, and William S. Compton, Shelby, Alabama, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Compton attended Berry School for Boys and graduated from Leeds High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the University of Alabama in 1959, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi social fraternity. After graduation, he served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He was active in numerous civic and charitable affairs, serving as president of the Georgiana Kiwanis Club and the Georgiana Chamber of Commerce at various times and was selected as Man of the Year in Georgiana in 1970. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Georgiana for more than 25 years, serving as chairman of the Board of Deacons, among other activities at the church. Most recently, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Montgomery.

A memorial service was held at Johnson's Funeral Home, Georgiana, Alabama, on Monday, February 18, 2008, at 11 a.m. Dr. Jay Wolf officiated. Visitation at 9 a.m. preceded the memorial service. Graveside services were held at Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Shelby, Alabama, on the same day at 3 p.m.

Pallbearers were Jack Bridges, Ford Burke, David Compton, Lee Compton, Ray Halbert, and Forrest Martin. Honorary pallbearers included Bryant Blackmon, Leroy Flucker, Mark Gruenwood, Foy Gunter, John Hollis, M.D., Bobby Joyner, William Mayo, Alvin Mixon, Jr., Brad Pugh, George Pugh, Sherrill Nichols, Kenny Nixon, Billy Joe Turner, Charles Williams, Robert Williams and Nightingale Uniform Co.'s employees and former employees.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alabama Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 100 Chase Park South, Suite 220, Birmingham, Alabama 35244, the Bay Springs Cemetery Association, c/o Treasurer, 15765 Alabama Highway 145, Shelby, Alabama 35143, or the charity of one's choice.

Crawford Ziegler

ZIEGLER, Crawford, 72, a life-long resident of the Millbrook-Coosada area, departed this life on Friday, January 21, 2005, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., from Robinson Springs United Methodist Church, with Reverend Kevin Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Ziegler Cemetery, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Ziegler honorably served his country during the Korean War with the United States Air Force. He was also a 32nd and one-half Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Crawford Ziegler, Sr.; one sister, Avis Ziegler Norfleet, and one brother, Edward Odenbaugh Ziegler. He is survived by one son, Crawford Ziegler, III, Eclectic, AL; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Ann and Chris Traylor, Dadeville, AL; one grandson, Joseph Owen Traylor; three granddaughters, Lindsey Star Ziegler, Eva Merial Edwards, and Hannah Nicole Traylor; and one sister, Darian Ziegler Price. Active pallbearers will be Chris Traylor, Marc Traylor, Joseph Traylor, Bobby Traylor, Troy Middlebrooks, and Jerry Carroll. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Parnell and Bert Pittman. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Robinson Springs United Methodist Church, c/o The Mission Fund, 5980 Main Street, Millbrook, AL 36054. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Maxwell Austin

AUSTIN, Maxwell Kenneth “Ken,” (Major USAF Ret’d), 66, a resident of Elmore, AL, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2007. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Dr. Steve Muzio officiating. Burial will follow, with full military honors, in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Austin proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was the recipient of several commendations and awards, retiring with the rank of Major after 22 years of service. He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 22 years, Bama L. Austin, and his adopted daughter (granddaughter) Missy Rolling, both of Elmore, AL. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (Harold) McGalliard, Millbrook, AL; one niece, Brooke McGalliard; two nephews, Bryan McGalliard and Davis McGalliard; a brother, Curtis M. Austin, Jr., Pine Level, AL; father-in-law, Bill Broadway, Elmore, AL; two step-sons, Jimmy Rolling and Bill (Rebecca) Rolling, all of Prattville, AL; and five grandchildren, Kristi, Austin, Brian, Bill Jr., Rolling and Brandon Harrison. Visitation will be held at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

James Berry

BERRY, James Richard, 47, a resident of Prattville, AL, died on Friday, December 10, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend Steve MacInnis officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Berry is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Rose and John McCauley of Prattville, AL; one brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Carol Berry of Prattville, AL; three nephews, three nieces, two great-nephews, and four great-nieces. Pallbearers will be Mike McCauley, Richard Berry, Brian McCauley, Kerry Hollon, John McCauley, Alan Berry. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Clyde Allen Dantzler

Mobile - Clyde Allen Dantzler, 91, a native of the Friendship Community, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 at his home. Funeral services were held at Serenity Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 with graveside services following at Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Louise Thomas Newton

Hope, Ark. - Louise Thomas Newton, 90, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 in South Baldwin Hospital in Foley. She will lie in repose at Hopewell Baptist Church on Thursday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. until noon with services following. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Georgiana.

Walter Vance Gilchrist

Bay Minette - Walter Vance Gilchrist, 86, a longtime resident of Greenville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette. Memorial services were held at Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 7. Interment followed in the Oakwood Annex in Montgomery with Dr. Chris Eckert presiding.

Jane Muellner

Georgiana - Jane Muellner, 75, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005 at L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital. A private graveside service will be held today, Feb. 12, at Morrow Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home directing.

Bessie H. Davis

Newnan, Ga. - Bessie H. Davis, 97, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 at her residence. Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 12, from the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bushfield Cemetery in McKenzie.

Olga C. Brown

Greenville - Olga C. Brown, 87, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2005. Graveside services were held Sunday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. from Magnolia Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing.
