Mrs. Shirley Rose Howard Litchford

Mrs. Shirley Rose Howard Litchford, age 61, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Friday, November 30, 2007 at her home.

She was born June 12, 1946 in Glenmora, Louisiana to john and Crecie Bond Howard. She was a teacher and attended the Horatio Assembly of God Church.

Mrs. Litchford is survived by her husband, Earl Litchford; her daughter, Krissette Koetter of Port Aransas, Texas; one brother, Billy Howard of Houston, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Litchford will held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, December 3, 2007 in the Rush Chapel in Glenmora, LA with Rev. Gary Richerson officiating Burial will follow in the Amiable Cemetery, Glenmora, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home in Glenmora, Louisiana.

Local arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Mr. Melvin Ruvell “Pete” Parson

Mr. Melvin Ruvell “Pete” Parson, age 85, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at his home.

He was born to Ernest and Maggy Cox Parson on February 1, 1922 at Washington, Arkansas. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. Pete was a retired auto body shop owner, and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, bird and deer watching, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, and four sisters, Jolly Bradford, Jeanette Regan, Lavonne Newby, and Ann Crisp.

He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Mary Allen Jones “Chuck” Parson of De Queen, four sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Joe and Phyllis Parson of Omaha, Neb., Ronnie and Kathy Parson of Little Rock, Ark., Ricky Lynn and Donna Parson, and Jerry Ruvell Parson both of De Queen, Ark.; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Melvin Uzzell of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Jack Dailey of Houma, La.; and Bill Dailey of Red Water, Texas, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

There are no funeral services planned. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2007.

Darrell Lee “Slim” Milam

Darrell Lee “Slim” Milam, age 56, a resident of Winthrop, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at his home.

He was born February 19, 1951 in De Queen to John Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Baker Milam. He was the farm manager for Ayers Poultry, a gospel recording artist, a member of the Winthrop Baptist Church and a Gideon.

Mr. Milam was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marvin Milam and Steve Milam.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara McPherson Milam; two sons, Joel Burch Milam of Foreman and Seth Thomas Milam of Old Boston, Texas; five brothers, John Milam of Foreman, Bill Milam of Winthrop, Wilbur Milam of Texarkana, Arkansas, Charles Milam of Winthrop and Gary Milam of Rogers; five sisters, Louise Key of Ashdown, Effie Klitz of Winthrop, Velma McCormick of Foreman, Mary Jackson of Goodwater, Oklahoma and Shirley Butler of Foreman.

Funeral Services for Mr. Milam will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2007 in the Winthrop Baptist Church with Rev. Audie Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Horatio Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Mrs. Beatrice “Bea” Camp Brewer

Mrs. Beatrice “Bea” Camp Brewer, age 80, a resident of Heber Springs, Ark., and former resident of Horatio, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 in Heber Springs, Ark.,

She was born to George W. and Bertha Green Camp at Horatio, Arkansas, on March 24, 1927. She was a retired owner of Horatio Beauty Shop, as well as homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Horatio, and a life member of the Tri Lakes Good Sam’s Club.

She was preceded in death by a son, Tom Brewer in 1996, and her husband of over 57 years, George Thomas Brewer in 2002.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Katelyn Brewer of Lockesburg, and Branden Brewer of Quitman, Arkansas, one great-grandchild, Dalten Brewer of Quitman, Ark.; two brothers, James Camp of Little Rock, and George W. Camp of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Willie Mae Downie of Kansas City, Kansas, and Lois Bethel of Turlock, Calif, and a number of nieces and nephews

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bea Brewer will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2007 in the First United Methodist Church of Horatio. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Carol Ann Eells Christian

Mrs. Carol Ann Eells Christian, age 66, a resident of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in the Brookwood Nursing Home, De Queen.

She was born to Albert Isaac and Sarah Alice Gier Eells at Erie, Pennsylvania, on April 3, 1941. She was a retired employee of Pilgrim’s Pride, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, canning, crocheting, and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of over 47 years, Wayne Christian of Lockesburg, three daughters and sons-in-law, Lonna Ann and Eugene Runnels of Lockesburg, Velvet Waynette and Kurt Hoover of Torrance, Calif., and Robin Lynn and Keith Stacy of Lockesburg; one brother, James Eells of San Luis Obispo, Calif., two sisters, Linda Lee Brown-silva of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and Claudia Rae Selley of Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren, Jonathan Wayne Runnels, Amanda Ann Jones, Dave Hoover, Jennifer Lynn Hoover, Sarah Waynette Stacy, and Erica Renee Stacy, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2007 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosstrails Cemetery, De Queen, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Mr. Harold L. Higgins

Harold L. Higgins of Gillham, Arkansas passed away Sunday, November 25, 2007 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born to Artie and Emory Higgins on October 26, 1920 in Mineral, Arkansas. He retired from the Arkansas Highway Department in 1986. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1939-1941 in Mena, was a logger and loved to dance.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Murl Higgins; five daughters, Delena and Walter Jewell of Gillham, Bonita and Bill Farley of De Queen, Diana and Charlie Mayo of De Queen, Donna and Paul Yancey of De Queen, and Lavetta Yancey and the late Jimmy Yancey of Bald Knob, Arkansas; one son, Harold Deane and Malissa Higgins of Gillham; one sister, Pauline Tripp of Magnolia, Arkansas; three nephews, Charles and Maurice Tripp and Delmer Tripp of Magnolia and Don and Cheryl Higgins of De Queen; two nieces, Marva Jean and George Connors of Allen, Texas and Becky and Pete Stiles of De Queen; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and14 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Higgins will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Benny Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the Mineral Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 26th at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ovie Ola Chambers Wilson

Mrs. Ovie Ola Chambers Wilson, age 91, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, November 22, 2007 in the Brookewood Nursing Center, De Queen.

She was born to John Thomas and Anna Josephine Holcombe Chambers at Page, Oklahoma,on October 8, 1916. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wickes, was retired from Lane Poultry in Grannis, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, shopping, and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jewel Woodrow “Jude” Wilson in 1972, and a daughter, Clarace Rutherford in 1997.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona, Nina and Donald Birdsong of De Queen, six grandchildren, Leona Hammer of Wickes, Ark.; Donnie Rutherford of Fayetteville, Ark., Todd Birdsong, and Trena Mills both of De Queen, Denny Birdsong of Plano, Texas, and Duane Dixon of Houston, Tex., 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 25, 2007 in the Fellowship Cemetery, Dierks, Arkansas, with Rev. Harold Brewer officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Mr. Thomas Virgle Caplinger

Mr. Thomas Virgle Caplinger, age 87, a resident of Justin, Texas, and former resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in a Texas Hospital.

He was born to James Oscar and Fannie Felicia Lucy Caplinger at Shinewell, Oklahoma, on October 31, 1920. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy, and was retired from the industrial field. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Justin, Texas, and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen, where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed golfing, wood crafts, fishing, and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Howard S. Caplinger, and a sister, Georgia Bell Caplinger.

He is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Thelma Lea Carter Caplinger of Justin, Tex., five sons and daughters-in-law, Royce and Helen Caplinger of New Delhi, India, Jerry and Sally Caplinger of Mansfield, Tex., Jim and Judy Caplinger of Justin, Tex. Lanny and Helen Caplinger of Gretna, La., Tim and Mary Caplinger of Bedford, Tex., one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Glen Barr of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; five brothers, Leroy Caplinger of Broken Bow Okla.; David Caplinger of Lawton, Okla.; Lawrence Caplinger of Senora, Calif.; and Harold Caplinger of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Maxine Fortner of Lawton, Okla., Emmogene Bain of Broken Bow, Okla., and Clara Brown of Red Bluff, Calif., seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. T. V. Caplinger will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sat., November 24, 2007 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23rd.

Mrs. Acie Viola Humphrey Blankenship

Mrs. Acie Viola Humphrey Blankenship, age 80, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, November 19, 2007, in the Crystal Falls Nursing Center, De Queen.

She was born to Frank and Maggie Wood Humphrey in the Green’s Chapel Community of Sevier County, Arkansas on February 10, 1927. She was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired sales clerk as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Ressie Gibson, Annie Manning, Rachel Metcalf, James Humphrey, Lorene Phillips, and Aline Bartlett, and her husband of 60 years, James Blankenship in December of 2006. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Dale and Dollie Blankenship of Horatio, two grandchildren, Jennifer, and her husband, Paul Ernest of Horatio, Kimberley and her husband, Heath Leonard of Horatio; two sisters, Ruby Stinnett of De Queen, and Pearlie Miles of Red Water, Texas, five great-grandchildren, Jakeb Andrew, Ryne Luke, and Samuel Brady Ernest, Easton James and Demi Aleese Leonard all of Horatio, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Bro. J. L. Walker and Bro. Wesley Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20th

Mr. Dennis Ray Peppers

Mr. Dennis Ray Peppers, age 72, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, November 17, 2007 at his home, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born to William Russell “Dick” and Lucy Dell Montgomery Peppers at Norman, Arkansas, on June 21, 1935. He was owner of Peppers Tax Service, as well as a cattle and poultry farmer. He served in the military with the U. S. Army, and was a Baptist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, deer camp, and sports, and absolutely adored his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Arvie Della “Wallie” Peppers of De Queen, two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Margaret Peppers of De Queen, and Dr. David and Rhonda Peppers of Mena, Ark.; his mother, Dell Peppers of Glenwood, Ark.; six grandchildren, Bonnie Peppers of Hochatown, OK, Madison Peppers of Mena, Ark., Ruby, Dennis, Steven and William Peppers all of De Queen, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donnie and Marquetta Peppers and Paul and Treva Peppers all of Glenwood, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Dennis Peppers will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2007 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. L. Walker and Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20th in the County Line Cemetery, Glenwood, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 19th.

Mr. Thomas "Tom" F. Holmes

Thomas “Tom” F. Holmes, 70, of Golden, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007, at his home in Golden. He was born January 29, 1937, in Hollywood, AR, the son of Ester and Cecil Holmes.

Tom married Carla Thomas on November 17, 1990 in Holly Creek. He was a member of the Oak Hill Independent Assembly of God and had worked for 25 years with D.O. and E. Railroad before retiring. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ester and Cecil Holmes; two sisters Frances Hudson and Ella McKamie.

Tom leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carla Thomas Holmes of the home; two sons and daughters in law, Jeff and Mary Holmes, Dequeen, AR and Dennis and Janet Holmes, Ocean Springs MS; one sister, Beverly Sullivan, Texarkana, TX; sister in law and niece, Shirley and Kayla Potts of the home; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday 2-4 p.m. at Brumley Chapel in Broken Bow.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 19, 2007 at Brumley Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Bow. Rev. Don Batchelor will officiate. Interment will follow in Watson Cemetery at Oak Hill, Oak Hill Community under the direction of Brumley Funeral Home, Broken Bow.

Mrs. Mattie Lee Churchwell

Mrs. Mattie Lee Churchwell, age 75, a resident of Eagletown, Oklahoma died Thursday, November 15, 2007 at her home.

She was born August 4, 1932 in Gillham, Arkansas to Charles Henry and Ida Ruth Seales Brewer. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Churchwell was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Arvil Brewer; infant daughter, Vera Lavon Churchwell and one grandson, Joe Brizendine.

She is survived by her husband, John (J.W.) Churchwell of Eagletown, Oklahoma; her children, David Churchwell also of Eagletown, John Churchwell of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Joan Williamson of De Queen, Arkansas, Rhonda Smith of Texarkana, Arkansas, Mikeal Churchwell of Fouke, Arkansas and Jessy Churchwell of De Queen; five brothers, Harold Brewer of De Queen, Edgar Brewer of Gillham, Edward Brewer of Tioga, Texas, Don Brewer of Odessa, Texas and Alvin Brewer of Mena, Arkansas; three sisters, Marie Kelley of Justin, Texas, Ruth Jackson of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Vera Johnson of Lexington, Kentucky; honorary children, Calvin and Carla Cooper of Alma, Arkansas; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Churchwell will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 18, 2007 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rusty Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 17th at the funeral home.
