Paul D. Jasper

Paul D. Jasper of Bella Vista, Arkansas passed away peacefully Sunday, January 4, 2015 in Fayetteville, Arkansas surrounded by his family. Paul was born January 18, 1936 to Carl and Mary Reinier Jasper in Fairview, Kansas.

Paul was raised in Kansas until the sixth grade then completed his education in Agency, Iowa. Paul served in the United States Marine Corp from 1955 to 1961. Paul retired from Grain Processing corp in Muscatine, Iowa as a warehouse foreman in 1991, retiring to Bella Vista, Arkansas. Paul was united in marriage to Lou D Beall in San Clemente, California on May 14, 1956. Upon retiring, Paul got his dream job of working at the Bella Vista Marina for 5 years because he loved fishing.

Paul loved to play cards and marble games with friends and family. Everyone knew he had to win. Often Lou had to duck when this didn’t happen. Paul enjoyed his morning ritual of having coffee with the guys at three different locations. Paul loved the Lord and was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church. Paul loves his family and all of his many friends and will be missed by all.

In addition, Paul loved watching old western movies, especially; John Wayne and reruns of Gunsmoke, up to 4 times a day. Paul enjoyed his garden and raised many species of Hostas. He loved his birds and the sanctuary that he kept for them. He loved his butterflies and raised Monarchs and Swallow Tails, releasing them for their fall migration.

Paul was a great supporter of the Bella Vista Garden Club, Benton County Master Gardeners, and the Sunshine School. Paul was the head of the neighborhood watch and its only member, while watching from his lawn chair or his recliner on inclement days.

Paul was proceeded in death by his parents, brother, William, sisters; Juanita Hanna, Mary Lou Sharp, and sons; Scott Alan, and Robert Paul Jasper.

Paul is survived by his wife Lou Dell, children; Danita (Bob) Cox, Sue Jasper, Shelly (Steve) Christensen, John D (Barbie) Jasper, and Yoko (Hong) Long. Grandchildren; Sarah (Adam) Axtell, Brandy Salier, Jessika (Nathan) Lindgren, Jennifer Hilty, Allison (Adam) Gable, Eric (Brittney) Connor, Karen (Jason) Zaehringer, Nathan Adamson, Emily and Hannah Wagner, Melissa, Alyssa, and Jake Long. Great-grandchildren Lodden, Casten and Brecken Axtell, Madasin Calvert, Bryce and Carter Lawson, Jaxson, Finlee, and Pyper Lindgren, Gaige Hilty, Lucas and Elly Zaehringer, Madelyn and Lucy Connor, Addison, Avery, and Abbigail Gable.

Paul's celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Bella Vista Community Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

In Lieu of flowers Paul wished donations go to the Sunshine School or Bella Vista Community Church.

Jodi Moore Smith

Jodi Moore Smith of Cave Springs, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2015. She was 45 years old. Jodi was the beloved wife of Eddie Smith and mother of Ivy Hamilton.

Jodi was born February 1, 1969 in Ottawa, IL.

At the age of 3, Jodi and her family moved to the Rogers/Cave Springs area where she lived the rest of her life. On July 6, 2014 Jodi married Eddie Smith, her best friend, who both loved and adored her. She was his “Princess”, and he was her “Prince”. She was an amazingly talented art teacher and was employed by Arkansas Arts Academy in Rogers for over 12 years. She was a patient, supportive teacher and through her creativity she was able to inspire young students to find their inner passion for art. Both her students and the faculty will miss her warm heart and love of life.

Jodi attended St Andrews Episcopal Church in Rogers. She enjoyed art, spending time with her family, and took great pleasure in creating their new family home in the country. Her dream was to help children through art.

Jodi is survived by her husband Eddie Smith; daughter, Ivy Hamilton; mother Linda Bowen; father, Jack Moore; stepmother Connie Moore; mother and father-in-law, Edna and Bobby Smith. sister, Jackie Gustin and her husband David; brother, Ben Moore and his wife, Meagan; nieces, Megan and Morgan Gustin. Step-sons, Austin Smith and his wife, Jessica; step-sons, Cameron, Garrett and Daniel Smith; step-grandchildren, Riley and Jordan.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Arkansas Arts Academy High School Performing Arts Center at 10:00 a.m. All friends and family are invited to celebrate Jodi, her life, and her art. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Arkansas Arts Academy Foundation

Attn.: Art Fund, 1110 W. Poplar Avenue, Rogers, AR 72756. Funds will be used to further art education for her beloved students.

Barbara Ann Horn

Barbara Ann Horn, 80, of Fayetteville died January 1, 2015. She was born March 30, 1933 to Clyde and Ruth Somers.

Barbara is survived by brother Gary Somers of Maryland, five children; Chuck, John, Jim, Ken, and Cathy, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Kathleen Yvonne Deslaurier

Kathleen Deslaurier of Bentonville died December 31, 2014. She was born November 26, 1952 to Joseph and Lucille Campanio.

Preceded in death: Parents and three siblings.

Survivors: Children: Angela Robinson (Jason), Joey Robinson (Sharon), Steven Robinson; Grandchildren: Ian, Blake, Savannah, Hailey, Blaine, Haleigh, Jasmine, Shelby, David; and five sisters.

John Edward Phillips

John Edward Phillips, 65, of Fayetteville died Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born December 28, 1948 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Beulah F. Phillips and Edward Phillips.

He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He loved spending quality time with his family. He had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his mother and his sister Janet Wilkerson.

John is survived by: his wife; Janie Phillips whom he married September 11, 1984, two sons; Aaron Phillips, of Wheeler, Abe Phillips and his wife Melanie, of Rogers, two brothers; James Phillips and his wife Lou, of Owasso, Oklahoma, Mike Phillips and his wife Judy, of Dardanelle, Arkansas, and one sister Patricia Wilson of Tennessee.

No services are planned.

Harold E. Fitch

Memorial services will be held for The Reverend Harold E. Fitch, 93, on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista. He was the third son born in Wayne, NE, on July 25, 1921 to Don J. and Leona (Smith) Fitch and died peacefully at Highlands Healthcare in Bella Vista, AR on December 25, 2014. He attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE where he lettered in basketball and football and met Tibbie (Leila May Dewey) who became his wife on June 10, 1944 at the Naval Air Station Chapel in Memphis, TN. They enjoyed 66 years together before Tibbie died in 2012.

Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and returned to Wayne State to graduate in 1946 with an industrial arts major. He had a variety of sales careers before entering the Methodist ministry in 1957 in Lakewood, CO. He graduated from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL and was ordained in 1962. His ministry took him from Colorado to Mason City, Iowa and finally to South Dakota where he served United Methodist churches in Scotland, Flandreau, Egan, Sioux Falls (where he also served as chaplain at the SD State Penitentiary), Sturgis and Watertown before retiring to Bella Vista in 1987.

Harold and Tibbie were active members of First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista. For many years after retiring, they were involved in mission work for several months each year with an ecumenical group called SOWERS and with Habitat for Humanity. Until last spring, Harold volunteered three days a week at Helping Hands in Bentonville.

Harold touched many lives and was much loved by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Tibbie; two sons, Don D. Fitch and Hal E. Fitch; his parents and two brothers, Delmer D. and Ivan W. Fitch. He is survived by daughters Jean Justice (John), Bella Vista, and Kim Budd (Paul), Sugar Creek, MO; one son, Van H. Fitch, Virginia, MN; a sister, Bonnie Echols (Bill), Lynnwood, WA; sister-in-law, Betty (Don) Heitman, Coleridge, NE; brother-in-law, Harold Sizemore, Omaha, NE; daughters-in-law Sandra Fitch, Bella Vista, and Sue Weast, Hiawatha, KS; eleven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Harold’s family extends deep gratitude to the staff at Highlands Healthcare and Circle of Life Hospice for their loving care. Cremains will be interred at the Bella Vista Cemetery with Epting Funeral Home of Bella Vista is handling arrangements.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Mission Program at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Dr., Bella Vista, AR 72715; Helping Hands, Inc., 320 Airport Rd., Bentonville, AR 72712; Habitat for Humanity of Benton County, 1212 N. Walton Blvd, Bentonville, 72712; or Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762.

Frieda Emma LaPlante

Frieda Emma LaPlante, 81, of Gravette, Arkansas died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. She was born July 4, 1933 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin the daughter of Clara Wampfler and Walter Baumberger.

She enjoyed her work in the door to door ministry. She loved singing, crocheting, spending quality time with friends and family, and traveling.

She was a public school librarian for many years in the Green Bay School District. She and her husband moved to the Northwest Arkansas area in 1990 from Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband Raymond LaPlante, and 3 siblings.

Frieda is survived by: one son; Merlin Avery and his wife Cynthia, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, four daughters; Connie Smits and her husband Bruce, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Cindy Demars and her husband Brett, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Melody Thomas and her husband John, of Gravette, Robyn Rogers and her husband Scott, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, three brothers; Fred Baumberger and his wife Sally, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, John Baumberger and his wife Nancy, of Washington, David Baumberger and his wife Barbara, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, five sisters; Virginia Apfel, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Esther Swan, of Barron, Wisconsin, Elvira Solum, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Jeannie Elson, of California, Barbara Cook, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, 22 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Gravette located on Hwy. 59.

A second memorial service will be in Wisconsin at a later date.

Debra McAllister

Debra McAllister, 49, of Tyler, Texas died Monday in Fayetteville.

Survivors: mother; Sandra Rae, father; Ronald Leverson, both of Rogers, two sons; Lance Dixon, of California, Joseph McAllister, of Illinois, two brothers, and one sister.

Burial was at Tucks Chapel Cemetery.
