Florence Edith Dzialo

Florence Edith Dzialo, 91, of Bella Vista died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at a local skilled care center. She was born May 1, 1925 in Connecticut.

She was a teacher’s aide for many years.

Survivors include her family and friends.

William R. Fleener

William R. Fleener, born on Sept 16, 1932 (84 years old), arrived in heaven on April 9, 2017.

Bill was born in Toledo, Ohio, raised his family in Saginaw, Mi., and retired in Rogers. He loved the lord and his family. Bill was a Navy veteran and served in the Korean War.

Bill leaves behind his wife Joan (married 60 years) and his three children, two sons (Bill and wife Dianne & Rob and wife Debbie) and a daughter (Christine and husband Richard). Bill had 12 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

He had a great sense of humor and when asked what he wanted in his obituary, he responded “Gone”!

David Wayne Perkins

David Wayne Perkins, 55, of Fayetteville died Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born January 24, 1962 in Mansfield, Texas.

He was preceded in death by: his father and two brothers; Charles and James.

Survivors include: his wife; Kema Perkins, of Fayetteville his mother, Mary F. Perkins, two sons; Samuel Molnar, of Fayetteville, Jeffrey Molnar, of Wesley, two daughters; Abby Molnar, of Fayetteville, Lindsey Molnar, of Wesley, one sister; Linda Short, of Burleson, Texas, one grandchild; Remington, friend; Janie Bartholomew, and several extended family members.

No services are planned at this time.

Mary Jon (Johnson) Sheldon

Mary Jon (Johnson) Sheldon, 91, of Fayetteville, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Willard Walker Hospice, surrounded by family. She was born November 23, 1925 in Oklahoma City, OK, to Hayes Andrew and Minnie Kate (Guthrie) Johnson. She married Dr. Wilmer G. “Bill” Sheldon on February 9, 1951.

Mary Jon graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1942 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1947, after which she worked as a high school biology teacher. She then attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota where she obtained a Masters degree in psychology, during which time and after she worked as an adult counselor. She was a passionate musician and a talented flautist, and began playing with the Oklahoma City Symphony while still in junior high school.

Throughout her life, Mary Jon was a very active volunteer for her community. She served on many councils and boards, and worked with numerous local and national organizations. The issues of mental health, child welfare, education, and perpetuation of the arts were especially important to her.

She became a member of Sequoyah United Methodist church in 1985, where she founded the church's bell choir, in addition to serving on numerous committees and participating in charitable activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; and one son, Kerry Eugene “Sam” Sheldon. She is survived by son Jim Sheldon, daughters Rebecca Jon Lingelbach and husband Dick, Shannon Kathleen Wright and husband Richard; grandchildren Mason Shoemaker, Jessica Shoemaker, Melissa Guthrie and husband Kevin, Jason Meadows, Kathleen Sheldon, Christine Nock and husband Zac, Robbie Wright, Billy Wright and Shelby Ridley; great-grandchildren Michael Alameda, Emy Shoemaker, Savannah Shoemaker and Vincent Guthrie; and great-great-granddaughter Violet Cartwright.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8, at 2:00 PM, at Sequoyah United Methodist Church. The family will hold a private graveside service.

Estel Bird

Estel Bird, 94, of Fayetteville died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at a local skilled care center. She was born October 12, 1922 in Pope County, Missouri.

No services are planned at this time.

Survivors include her extended family and friends.

Robert W. Kellogg

Robert W. Kellogg, 84, of Bella Vista, AR, died Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his home. He was born April 24, 1932 in Des Moines, IA.

He spent his entire career working in education. Following retirement he moved to Bella Vista, AR in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene J. Kellogg; three children: Dr. Jeffrey (Nancy) Kellogg, Jeanette Kellogg, and Jerome (Eugenia) Kellogg; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Following a private family service, the burial will be in Des Moines, IA at a later date.

Leonard Michael Stanulis

Leonard Michael Stanulis (Len) passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Brookstone Assisted Living in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was 94 years old.

Born on August 12, 1922, Len graduated from Waukegan High School and served in the army during World War II in Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart, and later served as Arkansas state commander in the Military Order of the Purple Heart. On May 5, 1947, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Ellen Rice (Peg) and they resided in Waukegan while he earned his college degree in engineering and started a family.

In 1954, the family moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan when Len took a job at Whirlpool Corporation where he worked for the rest of his career. In 1967, he transferred to Ft. Smith, Arkansas where he spent the final half of his life. After retiring, he and Peg traveled to explore the world and to visit family. Len could fix anything and was called upon to do all kinds of building projects for his growing family. He also loved to work in the yard, gardening, trimming trees, and mowing. He was also a volunteer at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center.

Len was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Peg, his parents, Theodore and Antoinette Stanulis, and a brother Theodore Stanulis.

He is survived by one brother, Edward Stanulis and three children and their families, Margaret Stanulis Ells (Bob Ells), David Stanulis (Lori Stanulis) and Laura Stanulis Wilkins (Bruce Wilkins), seven grandchildren, David Stanulis, II (Katie), Rebecca Stanulis Stern, Jessica Stanulis McIntosh (Landon), Meghann Ells, Lauren Wilkins Stokes (Lance), Cody Ells, and Austin Wilkins and five great grand children, Joseph Tyler Stern, Burkleigh Boyett, Cameron Stanulis, Lofton and Linden Stokes, and his good friend and companion, Janet LaForce.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church Chapel in Fort Smith at 10:00am, with Interment at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville, Illinois.

Jerry Reese Yeargan

Jerry Reese Yeargan died March 31, 2017 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Yeargan and Tacy Pearl Yeargan, and his sister, Edwina McClurkan. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Jane Evans Yeargan, his daughter and son-in-law, Leigh Anne and Michael Cale, his son and daughter-in-law, Brooks and Traci Yeargan, two grandchildren, Sydney and Kinsley Yeargan, all of Fayetteville, Arkansas, one brother, Judge Charles Yeargan and wife Donna Kay of Glenwood, Arkansas, and one sister, Wanda Dwyer of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Born in Kirby, Arkansas on January 31, 1940, Jerry was the valedictorian of his high school class. He attended Henderson State Teacher’s College for two years where he played basketball and helped his team win the AIC Championship with an 18-2 record his freshman year. Jerry transferred to the University of Arkansas his junior year to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. He received both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arkansas, and was a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Mu Epsilon. After working for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas, he returned to school and received his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas in 1967.

Jerry returned to Fayetteville, Arkansas as a faculty member of the University of Arkansas College of Engineering where he taught for forty years until his retirement on June 30, 2007. He held the Texas Instruments Chair in Linear Microelectronics and served as Head of the Electrical Engineering Department from 1977-1982. He served as Head of the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering from January 2005 until his retirement and as Distinguished Professor and Roger S. Kline Chair in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. He was a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the American Society for Engineering and Education (ASEE), the International Engineering Consortium (IEC), and was a charter member of the Pan American Academy of Engineering.

Jerry was the 2001-2002 President of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) and, as such, served as the Chair of its Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He served as an ABET director from 1998-2000 representing IEEE. He served as a member of the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET from 1992-1997 and chair of the Criteria Committee from 1995-1997.

His career in Electrical Engineering afforded him the opportunity to travel the world. He served as a consultant evaluator to engineering schools in the United States and internationally including the Egyptian Air Force Academy, the University of Puerto Rico, the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Columbia, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in Taejon, Korea, the University of Iceland, the Technical University of Delft, Kuwait University, the University of Qatar in Doha, Qatar, Abu Dhabi University, and the United Arab Emirates University of El-Ain, UAE. He served by invitation of the Swiss Federal Office of Technical Education as an international observer to the Peer Review of the Swiss Universities of Applied Science. He served as Chair of the Academic Advisory Board for the United Arab Emirates for the International Academic Advisory Council for the University of Qatar.

Jerry received numerous awards and recognitions including the 2006 Linton E. Grinter Distinguished Service Award of ABET, the IEEE 2004 Harden Pratt Award, the IEEE Educational Activities Board Meritorious Service Award – 2001, IEEE Millennium Medal – 2000, Outstanding Teacher Award – Department of Electrical Engineering 2004, Outstanding Service to Students – College of Engineering – 1998, Outstanding Faculty Award, Presented by the Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineers – 1998, 1997 IEEE Education Society Achievement Award, 1981 Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Professor in the College of Engineering, Haliburton Award – Outstanding Engineering Faculty – 1986, and the IEEE Centennial Medal – 1986.

When not teaching or traveling, Jerry enjoyed playing his guitars, playing golf with his life long friends, working in his yard, and playing with his granddaughters – Sydney and Kinsley.

A “last tee time: will be held at the Fayetteville Country Club, followed by a private burial service at Kelley Cemetery in Murfreesboro, Arkansas at a later date. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the University of Arkansas, University of Arkansas Foundation, In Memory of Jerry Yeargan, Electrical Engineering Department, 3217 Bell Engineering Building, Fayetteville, Arkansas 72701, the Willard Walker Hospice Home, P.O.
