Gerald B. "Jake" Jacobs
(December 19, 1926 - October 31, 2011)

Gerald B. “Jake” Jacobs, 84 of El Dorado, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas following a brief illness.

Born December 19, 1926 in El Dorado he was the son of Bufford D. and Bertha Webb Jacobs. Jake was the former of owner of the Four Six Service Station and the El Dorado Spur Station and later was a part time employee of Laney’s Body Shop. He was member of Union Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death along with his parents, were his wife, Lucille Jacobs, and a sister Billie Jean Mosby.

Survivors include two daughters, Pat Garrett (Jimmy) of Blue Springs, MO and Carolyn White (Richard) of El Dorado, two brothers, Johnny Jacobs of Crossett and Beryl Jacobs of Hot Springs, and a sister Pam Aubrey of Emerson, AR. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Angela Moore (Keith) of El Dorado, Ryan Garrett (Cass) of North Liberty, Iowa, Richie White (Carrie) of Alexander, AR, Danny White of El Dorado and Megan Garrett of Blue Springs, MO and seven great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Whitney Pettit of El Dorado, Damien, Spencer and Keaton Garrett of North Liberty, Iowa, Sydney White and Evan White of Alexander, AR. Funeral services will at held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P. M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church, 144 Crain City Road, El Dorado, AR 71730

Gary C. Greer
(August 7, 1945 - October 26, 2011)

Gary C. Greer, 66 of Junction City, AR, died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Life Touch’s John R Williamson Hospice House after a lengthy illness.

Born on August 7, 1945 in El Dorado, AR; he was the son of Dan ‘Bill’ C. and Thelma Jenkins Greer. He was a mechanic and truck driver retiring from Lee Trucking. Gary was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed music. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors are sons Scott (Lolita) Greer of Monroe, LA and Kevin Greer of Russellville, AR, daughters Shelly (Gene) Snider of Magnolia, AR and Dana Stovall of Russellville, AR, brothers Ronald (Vickie) Greer of El Dorado, AR and Philip Greer of Cove, AR, sisters Sylvia (Howard) Pennington and Faye (Chester) New both of Junction City, AR, along with 10 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 am, Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Three Creeks Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. James Sparks officiating. The family will receive friends at Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado Friday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm. Memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice or Three Creeks Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 8772 Haynesville Hwy, Junction City, AR 71749.

Sarah Lena Patricia "Pat" Greer
(December 17, 1947 - October 23, 2011)

Sarah Lena Patricia “Pat” Greer, 63 of El Dorado, died on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock following a brief illness.

Born December 17, 1947 in Rockdale, Texas, she was the daughter of Luther Wallace and Vera Doggett McDiarmid. Pat was a 1965 graduate of El Dorado High School and married Donald Greer on June 6, 1967. She worked with her husband and son at United Industrial Supply in El Dorado. She was an active member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Pat loved people and never met a stranger. She especially loved her family and was always available to help anyone in need.

She loved her horses, as riding was one of her great pleasures that she shared with Don. She and Don were constant companions and helpmates to one another.

Preceding her in death along with her parents is a sister-in-law Sandra McDiarmid.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Donald Greer of El Dorado, a daughter Michelle Greer of Tyler, TX and a son, Matthew Greer (Blanche) of El Dorado, four brothers, William (Helen), Joe, Glenn (JoAnn) and Ricky McDiarmid (Eileen) all of El Dorado. Surviving grandchildren are Raelynne Stueart (Blake), Shelby Blackburn, Brooklyn, MaKenna, Christopher and Connor Greer and a great-grandchild, Noah Stueart and a host of nieces, nephew and her best friends, Karon and David Lewis and family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Gethsemane Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Johnson, Rev. Steve Moss and Rev. Larry Doggett officiating. Interment will follow in Old Parker’s Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Foster, Keith Jackson, Marc Lewis, David Lewis, Jay McDiarmid, Brent McDiarmid, Mike Greer and Danny Greer.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 10403, El Dorado, AR 71730.

Fred L. Bates
(January 21, 1936 - October 25, 2011)

U.S. Veteran

Fred L. Bates, 75 of El Dorado and formerly of Norphlet died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Courtyard Health & Rehab following a lengthy illness.

Born January 21, 1936 in Norphlet, AR he was the son of Gilbert and Eva McCaskill Bates. Mr. Bates was a former employee of MacMillian Oil and later retired from Cross Oil Refinery. He was a past member of the Union County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol, a member of the Norphlet Masonic Lodge and a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Norphlet United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death along with his parents were, a son, Danon Lee Bates, a brother, G. L. Bates and a sister, Othelda Bates Toombs.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Bates of El Dorado, a son, Todd Lee Bates of Magnolia, two sisters, LaDonna Bates Watts of Norphlet and Arnell Bates Arnold of El Dorado and a sister-in-law, Nelda Bates of Norphlet.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Norphlet United Methodist Church with Rev. Zack Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven memorial Gardens under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.

Virgie E. Floyd
(October 8, 1914 - October 22, 2011)

Virgie E. Floyd, 97, of Emerson, Ar. passed away October 22, 2011. She was born October 8, 1914 in Columbia County to Virgil and Barbara (Wilson) Eades.

She was a homemaker and a long time member of Brister Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, J. D. Floyd, one brother and five sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Horace Bradley and wife, Dorothy of Waldo, Ar. and Virgil Bradley and wife, Charlotte of Emerson, Ar., one sister, Margaret Dismukes of Magnolia, Ar., seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be at 1:00pm, Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Christies Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Eric Goble officiating under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia, Ar.

Visitation will be from 6-8pm Monday evening at Bailey Funeral Home.

Alline Lewis
(June 12, 1929 - September 18, 2011)

Alline Lewis, 82, of El Dorado, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas following a brief illness. Born June 12, 1929 at Summerfield, LA she was the daughter of John Granville and Lillian Estelle Cubbage Bailey. Alline had worked as a Nurse's Assistant for Hudson Memorial Nursing Home for over twenty years. She was a member of Three Creeks Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death along with her parents were her husband Rolen Lewis, brothers, Billy Bailey, Nomie Bailey, Cortez Bailey, Spot Bailey and Jigs Bailey and sisters, Mary Lois Martin and Minnie Staggs.

Survivors include a daughter Ann Freeman (Joe) of Homer, LA; 2 sons, Gary Lewis (Joellyn) of Homer, LA, Terry Lewis (Kathy) of Three Creeks, AR; sister, Jenny Bonsel of Minden, LA; a grandson, Mark Freeman (Melissa) of Haynesville, LA; 5 granddaughters, Amy Gray (Lonnie) of Minden, LA, April Freeman of Homer, LA, Terra Bovee (Waylon) of Three Creeks, AR, Tiffany Britton (Lance) of Little Rock, AR, Rebecca Holloway (Stewart) of Pineville, LA; 4 great-granddaughters, Katie Freeman, Allie Kate Britton, Emilee Bovee, Alayna Garry; 4 great-grandsons - Peyton Gray, Will Robinson, Noah Britton, Zach Holloway. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September, 23, 2011 at Bailey Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Stewart Holloway officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jim Bonsel, Buddy Bailey, Danny Cole, Kenny Mark Cole, Donnie Ray Cole, and Dough Cole.

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home, El Dorado, AR. Thursday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Way, Little Rock, AR 72202-3591.
