Rose Ann Mook
July 14, 1929 - April 26, 2012

Rose Ann Mook age 82, of El Dorado, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at her home in El Dorado. She was born on August 14, 1929 in El Dorado to the late Jue and Rosie (Wong) Mook. Rose Ann worked for many years helping her father run the family grocery business in El Dorado. She also kept numerous children in the nursery at first Presbyterian church. she was a kind hearted lady who loved her family and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Hub Mellor Mook, Joseph “Joe” Mook, Robert Mook, Bobby Mook and James Mook.

Those left to cherish her memory include one sister, Minnie Lee Sung of San Francisco, CA; two brothers, John Edward Mook of Miami, FL, David Mook of Newbury Park, CA, Also, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in El Dorado with Dr. Dan Loomis officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado.

Gladys Jackson Gleason
August 31, 1919 - June 1, 2012

Gladys Jackson Gleason died Friday June 1, 2012 at the Magnolia Health and Rehab Center. She was 92 years old. She was born August 31, 1919 in the College Hill community north of McNeil and she lived all of her life in Columbia County. Her parents were Wesley Burchfield and Mattie Burchfield. She was married in 1939 to John Samuel Jackson of Waldo. To that union two children, John S. Jackson and Judith Ann Jackson, were born. John Samuel died in 1963 and in 1971 Gladys married Floyd Gleason. Floyd died in 2005.

Gladys worked for most of her career as a clerk in the Waldo Post Office from which she retired in 1983. After that she and Floyd moved to the Burchfield farm in the College Hill Community until his death in 2007. She then moved to Dudneywood Assisted Living and later to the Magnolia Health and Rehab facility where she lived until her death. The family would like to thank the staff of both Dudneywood and of Magnolia Health and Rehab as well as Lifetouch Hospice of South Arkansas for the excellent care and comfort they gave to Gladys during her last years and days.

Gladys was a long time member of several Baptist churches in Columbia County including the College Hill Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, the First Baptist Church of Waldo, and the College View Baptist Church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McNeil at the time of her death.

She was also preceded by her Brothers, A. G. Lloyd, Russell, Rodney and Franklin Burchfield and sisters, Ira Streetman and Marjorie Janssen preceded her in death.

Gladys is survived by her son, John S. Jackson and his wife Nancy (Wedaman) Jackson of Carbondale, Illinois and their children, Jeffrey C. Jackson of Fayetteville and Jill E. Jackson of Madison, Wisconsin, and Judith and her son, Samuel R. Jackson, of Little Rock. She is also survived by her brothers, Joe Ben Burchfield of Magnolia, Milton W. Burchfield of Waldo and her sister, Louise Inscore of Magnolia and a great number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews in the Burchfield and Jackson families.

Services will be at 2:00pm Sunday June 3, 2012 at Bailey Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday at 1:00pm prior to service time. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery near Lamartine under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia.

Ruth Merritt Kirkley
July 23, 1922 - May 29, 2012

Ruth Merritt Kirkley of Magnolia, AR, formerly of Springhill, LA, quietly passed away on the evening of May 29, 2012. She was 89 years old.

Ruth was born the youngest of five children to George G. Merritt and Georgia Martin Merritt on July 23, 1922, in Evergreen, Louisiana. She was predeceased by by her parents and her siblings: Burnice Merritt, Grady Merritt, Lucille Merritt Keen & Sallie Merritt Keen.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 67 years, F.M. Kirkley, their three children: Randy Kirkley (Brenda) of Camden, AR, Suzonne Kirkley Evans (David) of Mansfield, TX and Ginger Kirkley McConnell (Cecil) of Magnolia, AR, her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Mimi”: Michelle Kirkley Hopkins, Chad Kirkley, Trey Evans, Jason McConnell and Kirk McConnell, and her nine great-grandchildren. Her gentle ways and kind hospitality will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She graduated as valedictorian from Evergreen High School in 1940. Ruth then attended Meadows-Draughon Business College in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Ruth was employed at the Louisiana Ordinance Plant during WWII, then as the secretary of Howell Elementary in Springhill, Louisiana, and later served as the secretary of the Springhill United Methodist Church.

Throughout their marriage, Ruth and F.M. enjoyed many activities and traveled extensively. They visited all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. They also enjoyed riding their bicycle built for two. Over the course of four decades, they rode thousands of miles - always together.

Though petite in physical stature, Ruth could work wonders in a kitchen, and cooking was one of her favorite pastimes. She was famous for her chocolate pie and chocolate cake. She also enjoyed gardening, particularly watching her beautiful zinnias, Confederate roses and azaleas bloom, as well as sewing and crocheting. Above all else, Ruth always enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She continually exercised her strong love and devotion to all of her family.

The family would like to extend a word of thanks to Dr. Jason Franks and staff; especially J.P. Mobley, apn and all the kind nurses at the John R. Williamson Hospice House, for the compassion and wonderful care they extended to Ruth.

Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home in Springhill, Louisiana Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 31 at Bailey Funeral Home at 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Graveside service will be on Friday, June 1 at 10:00 A.M. at the Evergreen Cemetery, north of Minden, LA. A memorial service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Friday, June 1at Springhill United Methodist Church at 2:00 P.M.

Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Magnolia, Arkansas, and was formerly a member of the Springhill United Methodist Church in Springhill, Louisiana. The family asks that anyone wishing to make memorials in Ruth’s memory, please direct such memorials to either church or John R. Williamson Hospice House, El Dorado, AR.

Laura Maxine Mason
April 17, 1925 - May 26, 2012

Laura Maxine Mason age 87, of Junction City, passed from this life on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Timberlane Health and Rehab Center in El Dorado. She was born on April 17, 1925 in Junction City to the late Herbert Newell and Florrie (Popp) Galbraith.

Maxine was a retired post office clerk for the US post office in Junction City and was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City. She enjoyed going shopping and dining out. She was a loving sister, aunt and friend to anyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Wayne Mason and one sister, Marian Mitcham.

Those left to cherish her memory include; one sister, JoAnn Smith of El Dorado; two nephews, Bob Mitcham and wife Joy of Monroe, La and Mark N. Smith of El Dorado; one niece, Laura Ann Smith of Magnolia; one great nephew, Mike Mitcham and wife, D'Ann of Dallas, TX; three great nieces, Michelle Gregory and husband Craig of Monroe, Melanie Markley and husband Richard of Rogers, AR, Natalie DeTraz and husband Chris of El Dorado; six great great nieces and three great great nephews; two sisters in law, Gladys Beal and husband Bob of Little Rock and Ivy Mason of El Dorado; one brother in law, Paul Mason and wife Mary Jo of Flower Mound, TX; Cousins, Lydia Walker, Miriam Huskey, Ray Galbraith JR, David and Toni Lynn Cunningham and family; special friends and helpers, Peggy Williams, David and Toni Lynn Cunningham, Betty Moss, Virginia Frisby, Jerry and Janice Brewer, Clarence McClelland.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Junction City with Rev. Leon Dixon and Rev. Lynn McClure officiating. A Private Burial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Junction City.

Visitation will be from 12:00 –2:00 pm prior to service time on Tuesday at the Church.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Junction City or The Roselawn Cemetery Fund.

Catherine "Katie" Ann Jordan
(May 9, 1957 - May 7, 2012)

Catherine “Katie” Ann Jordan, age 54, of Magnolia, Ar. passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Ar. She was born on May 9, 1957 in El Dorado, Ar. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Magnolia. She was a 1976 Graduate of Magnolia High School and attended Southern Arkansas University and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jackson Fred and Catherine Irmede (Sumrall) Jordan and step-mother, Della Jordan.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two brothers, David Jordan of Magnolia, Ar.; Patrick Jordan and wife, Pallie of Shreveport, La.; two nephews, Jarrod Jordan of Shreveport, La. and Staff Sgt. Matthew Taylor Jordan, Military Training Instructor US Air Force and wife, Trista of San Antonio, Tx., one Niece, Laura Brunson and one great niece, Fallon Grace Brunson both of Conway, Ar. and extended family members and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Friday, May 11, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia, Ar.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Association

Rose Raye Eason
(August 5, 1931 - May 5, 2012)

Rose R. Eason, age 80, of Crossett, AR passed from this life on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. She was born on August 5, 1931 in Higgins, TX to the late Samuel Eldon and Novie Ann (George) Ferrell. Rose attended The Lighthouse Family Church near Hamburg. Rose was a devout Christian woman who loved her Lord and knew where she was going. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She especially was looking forward to the arrival of her first great great grandson due to arrive in September. Rose is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William (Bill) Eason; two sisters, Artie Green and Sammie Price; one son, James Eason; one daughter, Susie Eason; one great grandson, Cameron Martin. Those left to cherish her memory include; one son, William Jesse Eason JR of Huntsville, TX; one daughter, Dollie Stephenson of Crossett; nine grandchildren, Carol Meurer, Ricky Stephenson, Cheryl Lynn Atkins, Anson Stephenson, Misty Denise Miller, Chrissy Lea Rivas, William Jesse Eason III, Andy Mahan and Candy Mahan; nine great grandchildren, Heather Russell, Edith Meurer, Charlene Stephenson, Shawn Wilson, Irissa Wilson, Cody Stephenson, Seth Duncan, Devin Eason and Dalton Barnett; one sister, Elsie Russell; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Lighthouse Family Church near Hamburg with Bro. Warren Finney, Sister Julia Finney and Bro. Tim Johnson Officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Park in El Dorado under the direction of Bailey Funeral home of El Dorado. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-8 pm at the Lighthouse Family Church. Pallbearers will be Anson Stephenson, Ricky Stephenson, Jimmy Atkins, Charles Meurer, Cody Stephenson, Warren Russell, Russ Miller and Rudy Rivas.

Orville Lee Smith
(March 21, 1930 - May 5, 2012)

Funeral services for Ernest Orville Lee Smith, age 82, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 7, 2012 at Western Baptist Church, Emerson, AR with Mr. Jesse Dickison officiating and assisted by Billy “Bo” Prince, nephew. Burial will be in the Western Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was born in Macedonia, AR to Ernest Connell and Mattie Irene Green Smith on March 21, 1930 and died on Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Taylor, AR following a brief battle with leukemia. He was retired from International Paper Company with 28 years of service and bought and sold used tractors and farm equipment. He cut and baled hay for the public for many years. He was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ. He loved gospel singings and was known for being a gospel song leader. He loved hunting and fishing, playing dominos and checkers with family and friends. He was an avid basketball and baseball fan for surrounding schools. His most enjoyable were the last four years following his grandson, Tate Smith, playing high school baseball.

He is survived by sons, Barry N. Smith and wife, Judy of Emerson, AR; Conny R. Smith and wife, Lydia, of Shongaloo, LA; Philip L. Smith of Emerson, AR; daughter, Sharon S. Griffin and husband, Bruce of Springhill, LA; brother, Lamar Smith and wife, Diane; sister, Faye Prince and husband, Joe, all of Springhill, LA; grandchildren, Amanda Broom and husband, Brady, Ed Grant and wife, Brooke, Heath Grant and wife, Caroline, Tate Smith, Ben Griffin, Brian Griffin and Lucas Smith; eight great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. He is also survived by mother of his children Lavelle Smith of Springhill,La.

He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Angela Smith.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Grant, Heath Grant, Tate Smith, Lucas Smith, Brady Broom, Baine Smith and Al Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Morgan, J. W. Robinson, Bobby Talley, Bruce Campbell and Mike Wilson.

The family would like to say Thank You to the physicians, nurses, and staff at LSU Medical Center, Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, Springhill Medical Center, and Serenity Hospice.. Also a special thank you to the staff at Summit Health and Re-hab for their outstanding love and care for the past three months.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LSU Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and Southern Christian Children’s Home in Morrilton, AR.
