Joseph C. Miller

A funeral was held Friday at Church of Christ in Ceres for Joseph Clinton Miller, 87, of Ceres. He died Sunday, March 21, 2004 at his home.

A graveside service was held Monday at San Joaquin Valley National cemetery in Santa Nella under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Born June 16, 1916, Mr. Miller was a native of Temple, Texas, and had lived in Ceres since 1965. He was a foreman at lumberyards 30 years and had worked at McWilliams Lumber Yard. He was a member of Church of Christ in Ceres, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10293 and American Legion Post 491. Mr. Miller enjoyed photography and gospel singing. He served in the Army from 1942-46.

Mr. Miller leaves behind his wife, Nanna M. Miller of Ceres; two children, Janet Lynn Daniel of Fresno and Kenneth Wayne Miller of Ceres; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Juanita Reynolds

A graveside service was held Tuesday at Ceres Memorial Park for Juanita Love Reynolds, 81, of Modesto. She died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center.

Burial was under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Born Feb. 12, 1923, Mrs. Reynolds was a native of Ardmore, Okla., and had lived in Modesto since 1946. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ.

She leaves behind seven children, Patricia Correll, Jimmie Craighead, Cecil Reynolds, Rob Reynolds and Ron Reynolds, all of Modesto, and Shirley Burnett and Darla Vanderpool, both of Ceres; her brother, Herman Love of Modesto; and 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Reynolds; and son, Bob Reynolds.

John P. Schiffman

A memorial service was held Sunday at Allen Mortuary for John Patrick Schiffman, 44, of Las Vegas. He died Tuesday, March 16, 2004.

Born Jan. 21, 1960, Mr. Schiffman was a native of Great Falls, Mont., and lived in Las Vegas since 1990. He was raised in Turlock. Mr. Schiffman worked in custom farming for many years.

Local survivors include his children, Jenny Johnson-Schiffman of Keyes and Adora Cagle of Ceres.

Kenneth H. Smith

Private services were held for Kenneth H. Smith, 80, of Modesto. He died Friday, March 26, 2004 at Golden Care Center of Modesto.

Born May 3, 1923 Mr. Smith was a native of Oklahoma and lived in Modesto for 55 years. He was a cement mason for 35 years. Mr. Smith was a member of Ceres Masonic Lodge 532, and Scottish Rite Bodies. He enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Smith leaves behind his son, Ricky Smith of Ripon; caregiver Wanda Smith of Ripon; his sister, Sylvia Alton of Olympia, Wash.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Smith.

H.T. Hutchison

H.T. 'Hutch' Hutchison, 79, of Sacramento died Monday, March 15.

Mr. Hutchison was a native of Broken Bow, Oklahoma. He was raised in Escalon and attended local schools. He served in the Air Force during World War II, from 1942 to 1945.

He lived in the Sacramento area the remainder of his life and worked as a truck driver until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Ingborg Hutchison; stepson Gunther Straess of Santa Rosa; sisters, Hila Pace of Modesto, Virginia Jones of Riverbank, Merle Henn of Aurora, Or., Lavon Brown of Norman, Okla.; and brother, Wesley Hutchison of Milwaukee, Wisc.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.T. Huthcison Sr. and Arlie Hutchison; and sister, Shirley Barker.

Burial was at Burwood cemetery in Escalon.

Randall J. Hulick

A celebration of life was held Monday at Cunningham's Affordable Burial & Cremation Centers for Randall Jay "Randy" Hulick, 41, of Modesto. He died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center.

Born Aug. 3, 1962, Mr. Hulick was a native of Provo, Utah. He lived in Modesto two years and previously lived in Portland, Ore., for six years, Newark for eight years and San Jose for four years. He was a construction foreman for the Artistic Construction Co. of Hayward for 12 years. Mr. Hulick had also managed the Starlite apartment complex in Ceres. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed oil painting, landscaping and refinishing antiques. He served in the Navy for two years.

He leaves behind his companion, David Jensen of Seattle; his mother, Marilyn Hulick Bingham of Modesto; and two brothers, Mitchell Hulick of Newark and Troy Hulick of Saratoga. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Dr. Donald E. Chelgren

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Berea Lutheran Church for Dr. Donald Emin Chelgren, 77, of Turlock. He died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Allen Mortuary.

Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park.

Born June 1, 1926, Dr. Chelgren was a native of Turlock and was raised in Hilmar. He returned to Turlock in 1957, when he started his practice as an optometrist. Mr. Chelgren was a self-employed optometrist for 37 years, graduating from Hilmar High School, Modesto Junior College, San Jose State University, and the University of California at Berkeley with a doctorate in optometry. After graduating from San Jose State, he taught science and coached basketball at Ceres High School for three years. Dr. Chelgren was a member of the Berea Lutheran Church and Lone Tree Duck Club for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, ranching and college sporting events.

He leaves behind his wife, Joyce Chelgren of Turlock; children, Mark Chelgren of Stockton and Marcie Chelgren-Smith of Eureka; and five grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, VA 94010; or to theBerea Lutheran Church, 20019 W. Bloss Ave., Hilmar, CA 95324.

Daryl D. Dolsman

A memorial service was held Saturday in Waterford for Daryl D. Dolsman, 58, of Waterford. He died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at his home.

Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Born Nov. 8, 1945, Mr. Dolsman was a native of Cheyenne, Wyo., and lived in Waterford 25 years. He was a handyman. Mr. Dolsman enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.

He leaves behind four brothers, Gary W. Dolsman, Melvin Dolsman and Wayne Dolsman, all of Montana, and Harold Dolsman of Ceres; and two sisters, Rosalie Horton of Waterford and Pamela Walden of Ceres.

Gregory A. Williams

The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs is in charge of private services for Gregory Allen Williams, 43, of Ceres. He died of natural causes on Feb. 21, 2004 at his home.

Born Aug. 4, 1960, Mr. Williams was a native of San Jose and lived in Ceres for 12 years. He owned and operated Race Craft Engineering, a race car fabrication firm in Ceres for 20 years. He was the driver of the #4 car sponsored by his shop and garnered many wins at main events in San Jose, Watsonville, Madera, Stockton, Roseville and Altamont. Mr. Williams also was the driver of Ferrari Farms #2 at the modifieds at Madera and Stockton speedways.

He leaves behind his wife, Kathleen Williams of Ceres; two children, Samantha Williams and Christopher Williams, both of Ceres; and his brother, Michael Williams of Modesto. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel E. Williams and Patricia J. Williams.

Josie Robles

A Mass was held Friday morning at St. Jude's Catholic Church for Josie Robles, 79, of Ceres. She died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center.

Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel was in charge of burial at Ceres Memorial Park.

Born April 4, 1924, Mrs. Robles was a native of San Antonio, Texas, and lived in Ceres for 34 years. She was a line worker for 15 years and had worked for John Ingles Frozen Foods. Mrs. Robles was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres. She enjoyed music and dancing.

Mrs. Robles leaves behind her son, Jesse Mendoza of Ceres; her sister, Angie Muro of San Antonio; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Castullo Mendoza.

Janet L. Clinton

Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service was in charge of private arrangements for Janet Lee Barker Clinton, 50, of Ceres. He died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at her home.

Born June 18, 1953, Mrs. Clinton was a native of Modesto and lived in the Ceres and Modesto area all her life. She was a nursing assistant at Brandel Manor, Turlock, for five years. Mrs. Clinton was a member of the Pentecostal Church and enjoyed reading the Bible.

She leaves behind three children, Jason Michael Clinton, Stacy Dwayne Clinton and Theresa Ann Clinton, all of Modesto; her father, Ralph Lee Barker of Hughson; two brothers, Billy Barker of Modesto and Steven Barker of Hughson; three sisters, Linda Roberts of Chicago, Vicky La Grone of Hickman and Gloria Villarreal of Ceres; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Barker.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350.

Tammer J. Hackett

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m Thursday at Ceres Memorial Park for Tammer Juettie McCleskey Hackett, 93, of Hughson. She died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital in Modesto.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto.

Born April 6, 1910, Mrs. Hackett was a native of Dawson County, Ga., and had lived in the Ceres, Modesto and Hughson area since 1927. She was a cannery worker and worked for California Vegetable Concentrates for 10 years. Mrs. Hackett enjoyed crocheting.

She leaves behind four children, Ellen Bomar and Elmer Hackett, both of Modesto, Esther Cranford of Ceres and Darlene Rhetts of Manteca; two brothers, James McCleskey of Modesto and David McClesky of Ceres; her sister, Merle Spiller of Angels Camp; and 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hackett; two children; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817; or Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350.

Alfred E. Beshears

A funeral was held Tuesday at Allen Mortuary for Alfred Eugene Beshears, 53, of Fairbanks, Alaska. He died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at his home.

Burial was at Turlock Memorial Park.

Born Nov. 13, 1950, Mr. Beshears was a native of Idabel, Okla., and was raised in Ceres. He lived in Fairbanks since 1994. Mr. Beshears was a self-employed fisherman, and enjoyed goldpanning as a hobby.

He leaves behind three children, Jeremiah Beshears of New Mexico, Selena Mejia of Turlock Keith Stoller of California and Rhonda Williams of Florida; three brothers, Carl Beshears of Springtown, Texas, Wayne Beshears of Checotah, Okla., and Ruben Beshears of California; six sisters, Nervalla Ash of Corvallis, Ore., Earlene Adams of Joplin, Mo., Wanda Hamilton of Brownsville, Glenda Childress of Buffalo, Mo., and Janet Bryant and Debbie Monk, both of Modesto; and eight grandchildren.
