She belonged to DKG, Delta Kappa Gamma a society for women educators where she made many friends and held many positions over the years including state level secretary. Carolyn believed in being involved and took this to a high level. She was originally brought up in the Methodist faith (UMC of Jonesboro, AR) and was a long-standing member of the Presbyterian church where she was active and taught Sunday school. Elizabeth (Betty) Anna Criddle, 81, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 21st, 2018, after a long illness, surrounded by two of her beloved Grandchildren, Adrianna and Cheyenne Castro.
Betty was born on Tuesday, September 15th, 1936 in Lake Andes, SD to parents Earl and Marion Kneebone. She was a life-long educator and loved teaching both children and adults. After years in both the public and private education systems, Betty started her private tutoring business, which she greatly enjoyed, especially teaching people to read. She volunteered at Salinas libraries teaching Spanish speaking adults English. She loved music and had a beautiful soprano voice, singing and directing choirs throughout her life. She had a major in English, a minor in Spanish and went back to school at 48 years old to receive a masters in Special Education, graduating at the top of her class at Chapman College. She fiercely loved her family and was always available for whatever was needed with love and encouragement. She met her beloved husband Earl at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD and they were married June 7, 1958. They moved to Colorado Springs, CO right after marriage, where son Daniel was born (1960), and daughter Laura (1963). They then moved to Reno, NV where Earl had been relocated by his employer, Speidel Publishing, relocating to Salinas, CA in 1965 where their third child, Marcia (1970) was born. In the mid-seventies, Earl and Betty purchased the Western Bible Store which they put their hearts into for 30 years. Betty was a vivacious, driven, tireless woman who made daily lists of things to do up until just a few years ago. Her wonderful husband, best friend and life soulmate, Earl, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2005 and became a resident a month ago of the same care center his beloved Betty was for a brief time. They were married 60 years.

A very special and heartfelt acknowledgment goes to our beloved Adrianna for her tireless, loyal and wonderful care she gave to both her Grandparents for 4 1/2 years in the home. Adrianna gave entirely of herself with selfless love to make sure her grandparents were safe, comfortable and happy, which they were because of our Adri. The family will always be grateful for her wonderful gift of love.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held Saturday, May 5th, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at Lincoln Ave. Presbyterian Church, 536 Lincoln Ave., in Salinas, CA. 93901 where Earl and Betty had been members.

Louie Ramirez, Jr.
September 4, 1969 - July 28, 2018
Born in Salinas, California
Resided in Salinas, California
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louie Ramirez on July 28, 2018 at Stanford Hospital, following a brief illness. Louie was the “presence” and heart of the family. His quick wit and funny “comebacks” would send laughter throughout our home. Our best memories are of the fishing trips with his dad and family, followed by delicious fish cook-outs he produced. His best fishing partner was his wife Michelle, whom he loved dearly. His best friends were his brothers. He had a strong bond with his mother Hope Horta Ramirez whom he loved very much. He had a strong faith in God, he always knew one day he’d go fishing again with his dad in heaven.
He loved deeply and sincerely. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved father Louie Ramirez Sr.
He leaves behind his greatest love and wife, Michelle of 22 years, his beloved mother, Hope Horta Ramirez, three brothers: Tony Ramirez (Alba Ramirez), Gilbert Ramirez, and Joseph Ramirez. In 2004, Henry was awarded the Salinas Chamber of Commerce Ag Leader of the Year award and in 2011, he was awarded the Valley of the World Hall of Fame Award by the National Steinbeck Center.
Henry is survived by his wife Evelyn (“Cookie”) of over 56 years, three children -- Jill (Mark), Stacie (Mark) and Kent (Aimee) and six grandchildren -- Grant, Ross and Burke Kennedy, and Taylor, Cade and Brooke Hibino. He loved to fish, play cards, watch sports and restore old cars, but he especially enjoyed cooking Sunday breakfast for his grandchildren as they were growing up.
