Doris Marie Cabaluna, 69, of Salinas, California, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018.
Born December 2, 1948 in Watsonville, California, She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Francis Frederick.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Raymon Cabaluna; four sons, Raymon Cabaluna Jr., Anthony Cabaluna, Eliott Smithson, Brian Smithson; a daughter, Kim Roland; a brother, James Frederick; and 17 Grandchildren, and dog, Wendy.
She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Smithson in 1995.
Private Memorial Service were held.

Margard Anderson Wagner
March 15, 1929 - January 18, 2018

Resided in Carmel, California
Margard (Maggie) Wagner of Carmel passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2018 with her loving sons by her side. She was 88 years old.
Born in San Francisco on March 15, 1929 to Gustav and Elizabeth Wahrer, she attended business school at Mills College. Maggie married her first love, Rudy Anderson in June of 1950. Together they had two sons, Mark and Kurt, before Rudy unexpectedly passed away on May 3, 1968.
Widowed and the mother of two young sons, Maggie was set up on a blind date by a friend and met Dr. John (Jack) Wagner. Jack was recently divorced, the father of five children and was a highly regarded doctor at his Salinas Valley Medical Group practice. The two had much in common and instantly fell in love. They were married on September 26, 1969 at the Highlands Inn in Carmel. They were married for 45 years before Jack preceded her in death in 2015.
Maggie led a very full and active life. She was a great athlete and enjoyed a good game of tennis and golf. She mastered both with her talent, grace and charm. She was a member of Carmel Valley Ranch for many years. She also enjoyed skiing, interior decorating and acquiring real estate. She donated her time as a volunteer at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital for over twenty years where she helped launch the anti-smoking campaign that ultimately led to a ban on smoking there. She was an avid animal activist and generously donated time and money to the shelters most dear to her heart.
She is survived by sons Mark Anderson and Kurt (Daphna) Anderson; stepchildren Richard (Andrea) Wagner, Walter (Linda) Wagner and Christina Wagner; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
At Maggie’s request, there will be no funeral service. Per her wishes, she and Jack are together again and their ashes were spread over Monterey Bay on January 29, 2018.

Elsie Ines (Bassi) Costa
September 22, 1929 - January 10, 2018

Elsie Ines (Bassi) Costa, 88, of Soledad, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018. She was born September 22, 1929, in Soledad, CA, and was raised and spent the majority of her life in the Soledad Mission District. She attended Mission Union Elementary School, Gonzales High School, and San Jose State University where she received her teaching degree and minored in music.
Elsie married Anthony L. Costa, Jr., in 1955. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2015. Elsie and Tony began farming in the Soledad Mission District in 1956. They built a successful family business and were very proud of the multiple generations of their family. Very seldom did they miss a sporting or school event for any of their grandchildren.
Elsie had been very active in the community as a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West, Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church (where she played organ, piano, and sang in the choir), a Mission 4-H leader, and the La Ticinella Club. Teaching and helping people brought much joy to her life.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony L. Costa, Jr.; parents Basilio and Silvia Bassi; sisters Emily Domingos and Ada Ricca; infant sister and brother Anna Bassi and Jimmy Bassi; brothers-in-law John Domingos, Lawrence Ricca, Manuel Costa, Richard Costa, Leonard Costa, and Richard Mattos; and sister-inlaw Josephine Costa.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Dossche, and JoAnn (Michael) Moline; sons, David (Kerri) Costa, and Michael (Kim) Costa; sisters-in-law, Deolinda Mattos, Delia (Fernandes) Fagundes, Adeline Costa, and Johanna Nunley; brother-in-law Bob (Evelyn) Costa; fourteen grandchildren, Peter Dossche, Megan (Lane) Meisenheimer, Patrick Dossche, Jeff Moline, Colby (Jeff) Pereira, Carissa Moline, Ryan Moline, Melissa Costa, Rachel Costa, Loretta (Nick) Toledo, Carolyn Costa, Adeline Costa, Kelly Smith, and Matt Smith; her great-grandchild Logan Toledo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Mission Nuestra Senora de la Soledad, 36641 Fort Romie Road, Soledad, CA.
Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church, 235 Main Street, Soledad, CA.
Celebration of Life and mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church, followed by burial at the Gonzales District Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Soledad Mission Restoration, P. O. Box 515, Soledad, CA, 93960; Rancho Cielo, P. O. Box 6948, Salinas, CA, 93912; Alzheimer’s Association, Northern California and Northern Nevada, 2290 North First Street, Suite 101, San Jose, CA 95131; or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Valerie Jane Carleton
December 10, 1947 - August 31, 2017

Valerie Jane Carleton, 69 of Salinas, CA went to be with Jesus on August 31, 2017, surrounded by her loving family and friends, in her home. She loved those around her with the love of God showing grace and tenderness until her last moment here on earth.
Valerie, known to many by her childhood nickname Binky, was born in Michigan in 1947, married her husband Tom in 1969. Shortly after they married they moved in Providence, Rhode Island where both their son and daughter were born. They moved to Salinas, California for Tom’s work as an architect in 1987 and lived in Salinas ever since.
Valerie spent most of her professional life as a teacher for various grade levels locally she taught at Salinas Christian School, Notre Dame, & Trinity High School. She was especially interested in US History, wanting to share the foundations of our nation’s spiritual heritage with future generations. The past several years, after retiring from teaching, she worked part-time as the bookkeeper for The Bridge Restoration Ministry for which she had a passion to see people reached for Christ and restored to their families. Above all else, her biggest joy in life was spending quality time with her four grandchildren. When not spending time with her family or pouring into ministry, she enjoyed the company of several treasured friends, gardening, sewing, reading, and the opportunities she had to travel.
She was fortunate to be reunited in heaven with her husband (Tom Carleton), parents, and eldest brother. Those who continue her legacy are her two children (James and Johanna) along with their spouses, her grandchildren, and brother.
A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 11am at Calvary Monterey (3001 Hwy 68 Monterey CA) followed by lunch on site.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to The Bridge Restoration Ministry, www.tbrm.org or to Calvary Chapel www.calvary.com both of which ministries were very important to Valerie.

Jose (John) Ruelas
February 14, 1948 - September 11, 2017
Born in Mesa, AZ
Resided in Prescott, Arizona
Jose (John) Ruelas, 69, of Salinas, CA, son of Thomas and Mary Lou Ruelas, passed away Friday September 11, 2017.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, John served in the US Navy onboard the USS Henderson in support of amphibious and shore bombardment operations.
He went on to work for over 30 years in construction, retiring to Prescott Valley, AZ in 2001. His passions included traveling and spending time camping or at the beach. John will be laid to rest next to his wife, Yvonne.
John is survived by his two sons, John and Fernando, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nine siblings.
A Memorial Services will be held at 12:00pm Friday October 6, 2017 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St, Salinas CA 93901.
