Sara Ramirez Cuellar passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2017, at her home in Salinas. She was 85-years-old, and a life-long resident of Monterey County.
Sara deeply loved her husband, family, and friends. Sara was a beautiful, elegant woman who was hardworking, patient, generous of spirit, and funny.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Manuel, and her four children, Carol (Ron Eastwood), Maria, Hope (Tony Garate), and Manuel Jr.; and her sisters Hope Bettencourt, Carmelita Hernandez, Juanita Robles, and Nellie Means. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
She will be missed by so many.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 30, at 1:00pm at Madonna del Sasso Church, 320 East Laurel Drive, Salinas, CA 93906.
Burial will immediately follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St, Salinas, CA 93901
Reception will be held at Spreckels Veterans Memorial Hall in Spreckels.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice.
Arrangements by Struve and Laporte Funeral Home.

Eustolia Marquez Saldivar
March 13, 1925 - October 29, 2017

Resided in Gonzales, California
Eustolia Saldivar passed away Sunday October 29, 2017 peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years old and a life-long resident of Monterey County.
Tola was preceded in death by her husband Nick Saldivar.
Tola is survived by her 2 children, Anna Saldivar and Nick Saldivar II (Beverly); her sisters Annie Silva, Hortencia Pinon, Laura Bustamantes (Dario) and brother Art Marquez (Marie), ; as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tola deeply loved her children, family and friends.
Visitation will be held 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
A Rosary will be held at 7:00p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Struve and Laporte Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held 1:00p.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at St. Theodore’s Church, 116 S. Belden Street, Gonzales, CA. 93926.
Burial to follow at Gonzales District Cemetery, 1000 Highway 101 South, Gonzales, CA 93926

Marcia Ferne Mammen
December 4, 1920 - October 25, 2017
Born in La Grande, Oregon
Resided in Salinas, California
Ferne Mammen, 96, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in her home in Salinas. Ferne born December 4, 1920, second daughter to Leslie and Christine Duncan in La Grande, Oregon.
Ferne, a farm girl at heart left Oregon for Santa Cruz to attend Hartnell College (formerly called Salinas Junior College) and met the love of her life, Don Mammen. They closed the deal one night over a box of cashews at the local movie theater and became an item from then on. They were married on June 8, 1941 and lived in Salinas the rest of their lives with their 5 children. Ferne worked at Richardson Motor Co. for 30 years as head bookkeeper, and Office Manager. After retiring she became the Vice-President of her husband’s drycleaning business Don’s One Hour Dry Cleaning, Inc. and all that it entails.
Ferne was considered the “Matriarch” of the Mammen clan and was very involved in various groups. She was admired by her family for her philanthropy and her kindness to others and enjoyed giving back by offering her services gladly. Ferne was on the board of the Hartnell Foundation, the Heart Association, Zonta, The Historical Society, The Salinas Chamber of Commerce, and The Boy Scouts, to name a few. She received the Paul Harris Fellow award from the Rotary Foundation, and an award for leading the IDC Convention in San Francisco for Drycleaners. She was a member of the The First United Methodist Church, and a leader in the Women’s Society and honored for 60 years of service. She was the church treasurer for years and sang in the choir. She was a CAF/MYF youth counselor and sponsored all kinds of activities to support her church.
Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with family members to places like the Pacific Northwest, East coast, Alaska and many other countries.
Ferne is survived by her three children, Marcia Terry, Larry Mammen (Andrea), and Leslie Alvarado, her sister, Janis Shinn, as well as 12 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Ferne was predeceased by her husband, Donald Mammen and her daughters, Barbara Mammen and Karen Shorsher and grandson, Jared Mammen.
Ferne was very proud of her family and enjoyed many friendships in her life. She lived her life to the fullest with integrity and was admired and loved by all those who knew her.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers who worked with Ferne over the years especially our primary beloved caregiver, Janelle.
Visitation will be held 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:30p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at The First Methodist Church, 404 Lincoln Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Ferne's name to Dementiasociety.org or your favorite charity.

Maren E. Prince
December 15, 1921 - October 28, 2017

Resided in Salinas, California
Maren E. Prince 95 of Salinas, formerly of Sacramento, CA. She was born December 15th, 1921, in Salinas.
Graduated with class of 1940 from Salinas Union High School. married in 1942 and lived in Sacramento, CA for 60 years before returning to live in Salinas. She was a legal secretary in Sacramento for 35 years
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Lorentzen and Nettie Lorentzen, her brother, Garth Lorentzen, and sister, LaVerne Lorentzen
She is survived by husband, Caryl Prince, niece, Karen Lorentzen, and nephew, Jeffery Lorentzen.
At her request no service will be held. Entombment at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Doris Faye Matthews
July 3, 1931 - October 25, 2017
Born in Benton County, Arkansas
Resided in Salinas, California
Doris Faye Matthews of Salinas died suddenly on Wednesday, October 25. She was 86 years old.
She is survived by her five children: Steven Wilder (Janet), Laurie Mohler (Thomas), Christy Culligan (James), David Wilder (Sandy) and Jane Sanders (Jason).
She also left behind thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.
She was born in Benton County, Arkansas to Thomas Hawkins and Maggie Callis.
She moved to Salinas and graduated from Salinas High School.
She then met and married William Wilder. They had five children and loved fishing at the mouth of the Salinas River almost every weekend. They spent wonderful summers at Arroyo Seco.
She then married Hiram Matthews and they spent happy days at San Antonio Lake fishing and camping.
Many happy hours were also spent with friends and family barbecuing at their home.
Private Services were held.

Norina Mary Del Ponte Dougherty
December 6, 1920 - October 27, 2017

Nornia Mary Del Ponte Dougherty, 96 of Greenfield passed away Friday, October 27, 2017. She was born December 6, 1920 in Greenfield, California.
Chapel Service will be held 11:00a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, California 93901.
Burial to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Elm Street, Greenfield, CA. 93927.

Rosana Jeffrey
March 26, 1924 - October 15, 2017
Born in Trinidad, West Indies
Resided in Salinas, California
Rosana Jeffrey, 93 of Salinas passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017. She was born March 26, 1924 in West Indies.
A longtime resident of Salinas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil and son, Michael.
She is survived by her son, Rawle Jeffrey.
Rose will also be forever remembered by her numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, son’s widow, Anna Jeffrey-Black and loving friends.
A Memorial Mass will be 10:00a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
