Richard J. Binsacca
November 9, 1927 - September 24, 2014
Resided in Soledad, CA
Richard J. Binsacca, 86, of Soledad passed away peacefully on September 24, 2014 at Eden Valley Care Center with his nieces by his side. He was born November 9, 1927 in Salinas, CA. Richard lived most of his life on the family farm in the Soledad Mission area, except for his time away at San Jose State University where he studied radio and TV repair. He also served in the U.S. Army as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic until the war ended. He was awarded a WWII Victory Medal.
After returning from military duty, he began farming on the family farm, but his real passion was TV and Radio Repair. He spent countless hours in his workshop building and repairing TVs and radios. He also enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, hunting, fishing, photography and computers. He traveled in the U.S. and several European countries.
Richard had an Honorary Membership to Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of National Rifle Association Golden Eagles.
Richard was preceeded in death by his parents, Joe and Lucy Binsacca, his sisters, Marie Rothenberger of Soledad, Virginia Wheeler of Salinas, and Roberta Binsacca of Soledad.
Richard is survived by his niece, Kathryn Emery of Madera, great-niece, Michelle Urquidez-Salinas of San Jose, and his great, great nephrews Joseph Atalig, Owen Alvarez, Mateo Salinas and Marcos Salinas of San Jose.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the loving care he received over the past years by staff members at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad.
Visitation Monday, October 6, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Rosary will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Solitude Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 Our Lady of Solitude, 235 Main Street, Soledad, CA 93960.
Burial will follow at Soledad District Cemetery, 1711 Metz Road, Soledad, CA 93960.

Robert "BOBBY" Armand Calderon
November 11, 1953 - August 24, 2014

Robert "BOBBY" Armand Calderon 60 of Castroville passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014. He was born November 11, 1953 in Watsonville, Ca.
Bobby was a devoted father who loved taking his children on vacation and his grandkids were the light of his life. His passions included the Giants and he was a self taught guitar player, a love he shared with others by "jamming' with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lupe and Mary Calderon, Brothers, Richard Calderon and David Calderon and nephew David Calderon Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Stefani Calderon (Ricky Gonzalez) of Castroville, son, Michael (Chrystal) Calderon of Ashland, OR., brother, Michael Dean Calderon of Salinas, and grandchildren Lanae and Jet Gonzalez of Castroville.
Bobby spent his 40+ year career working in the Salinas Valley Agriculture Industry and spent the last 6 years at Ocean Mist in Castroville.
Visitation will be held 1:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St. Salinas, CA 93901.

Ronnie Joe Van Bebber
October 23, 1941 - October 12, 2014
Resided in Salinas, CA
Ronnie Joe Van Bebber, 72, of Salinas, California passed away on October 12, 2014. Ronnie was born to John and Maxine Van Bebber on October 23, 1941 in Comanche Oklahoma; he was the fourth of seven siblings. His family soon moved to Brawley California, where he grew up. Drafted in the early sixties, he went to basic training in Fort Ord, California and served in Germany.
Ronnie met his wife, Bobbi (nee Stafford), in a produce shed in Yuma, Arizona. They became engaged 2 weeks after their first date and married in September 1968. They just celebrated 46 years together.
Known for his friendliness and his fairness, he spent his career in produce.
Ronnie was easy to like and fun to be around; even taking a drive with him was entertaining. He was knowledgeable on many topics, always providing honest and animated perspectives on current events and history.
To his family, Ronnie is irreplaceable; dependable, supportive, loving, kind and patient. He liked to see everyone happy and was devoted to that pursuit. He and Bobbi enjoyed many hobbies and spent many hours - and years - creating and painting woodworking projects and working on their home. Every year he planned our family vacation, he has driven all over the United States with kids and grandkids in tow. Some of the best memories are of fishing and family vacations He also enjoyed travelling to Bobbi's horse shows where he would barbeque for everyone. He loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events, always there to cheer them on.
His loss will be felt forever by those who survive him, including his wife Bobbi Van Bebber, his son Brett ( Kris) and daughter Brenna (Adam) Linder and grandchildren Duncan, Malcolm and Janell Van Bebber and Quincey and Collin Linder. He is also survived by all his brothers and sister; John Mack (Alice), Gayle (Tommy) Brown, Thomas (Carolyn), Gene (Betty), Dean, and Rodney (lyn). He also has many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
Reception to follow at The Grower's Pub.

Edward Winson DeMars
August 1, 1920 - October 18, 2014

Edward Winson DeMars graduated to heaven on October 18th. Ed was born in Pittsburg, Kansas in 1920 to John and Vida DeMars, and had one brother, Alvin. Ed's family initially moved to California when he was two years old. They worked a variety of jobs, including the fields. Ed graduated from Salinas High School in 1938 and soon after joined the Army Signal Corp during WWII where he served in the Philippines.
Ed married Rachel Harris on August 3, 1947 and they had two children: Brian and Cheryl. They were very active in the Clipper Club at First Presbyterian Church, and later at Northminster Presbyterian Church. He served on the San Jose Presbytery.
Ed was a founding member, and the first Director of Planning of Monterey County He held this position for 33 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a tireless defender of preserving the wonderful and diverse assets of the county. Ed was very influential in establishing the first designated scenic highway in the state along the Big Sur coastline - which he called "Wonderful One". His remarkable forward thinking, planning and efforts resulted in removing billboards throughout the County and preserving its vast resources - chief among them; farmland, open spaces and coastlines. He was instrumental in the first housing ordinance for Monterey County. One of his favorite legacies was the creation of Toro Park in 1971. His passions also brought him to be involved in the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, Lake Nacimiento, the Ag Land Trust "Preserving Farmland Since 1984", The Big Sur Land Trust and he was asked to serve as consultant on the General Plan for the County of Maui, Hawaii. He served with the American Society of Planning Officials, and the American Planning Association. Mr. Panetta asked him to serve on the land use committee for Fort Ord reuse following its closure as a military base.
In his retirement he enjoyed consulting, serving on boards, and traveling with family and friends, including many trips across the US, and around the world.
Ed was a gentlemen of impeccable character. His faith in God and Christ's work on the cross was steadfast.
Ed is survived by son Brian (Gaylene) DeMars, and daughter Cheryl (Andrew) DeMars Chapman; grandchildren Matthew (Diane) DeMars, Krista DeMars, and Kevin DeMars; great grandchild Oceana DeMars, and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service is planned for Thursday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church at 315 E. Alvin Drive, Salinas 93906.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to either the Ag Land Trust at PO Box 1731, Salinas, CA 93902, or the Northminster Presbyterian Church.

Mary Louise Cline
July 19, 1930 - October 16, 2014

Mary Louise Cline, 84, of Salinas, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014. She was born on July 19, 1930 in Clifton, Kansas.
Mary Lou was born and raised in Kansas. As an army wife she and her family traveled to many places and eventually settled in Salinas, California 44 years ago. She was a well respected and beloved elementary school teacher and retired after 30 years of teaching at San Carlos School in Monterey CA. Mary Lou enjoyed the time she spent working as a Pink Lady at Memorial Hospital, playing bridge with her friends, and following her favorite sports teams. Her grandchildren whom she was so proud of will lovingly remember her as a SF Giants loving, joke cracking, feisty Grandma.
She was preceded in death by her husband James F. Cline Sr., her son John Matthew Cline and parents John and Louise Sinnott.
Mary Lou is survived by her sister Carolyn (Dan) Blodgett of Denver, CO; daughters, Peggy (Chris) Young of Lafayette, CA, Patty (Clyde) Jeska of Salinas, CA, Mary (John) German of Arvada, CO; sons James Cline, Jr., Denver CO, Mike (Lisa) Cline of Salinas, CA, Tom (Russie) Cline of Arroyo Grande, CA; 1 nephew, 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 7, 2014, 1:30 p.m. at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.

John Olihovik
September 1, 1918 - October 15, 2014

John Olihovik, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in his hometown of Salinas. John was born in Maynard, Massachusetts on September 1, 1918 to Michael and Mary (Korzka) Olihovik.
A highly decorated hero of two wars, John began his 20 years of military service by enlisting as an Army Air Force cadet in 1942. He became a Fighter Pilot in World War II and served with the 86th Fighter Group and the 12th Air Force. He flew 87 missions in Europe and served in Italy and North Africa. In 1946 he switched from flying to paratroop duty with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and moved on to training pilots with the Yankee Division. John's Korean War service was with the Seventh Division as an observation pilot. He was 1 of only 3 U.S. Army personnel during the Korean War to receive The Navy Cross for his heroic and daring rescue of a Navy pilot that had crashed in enemy territory. Some of John's other awards and decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with 2 Oak Leaf clusters, the Air Medal with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Silver Star. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. John was truly a humble hero.
He was predeceased by his brothers Nicola, Alexander, Paul and Walter Olihovik.
John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ann; his daughters Loni Gattis of San Jose; Erika Lipscomb (Lou) of Salinas; Grace Trenerry (Bill) of Folsom; Linda Smith (Ed) of Placerville; Teresa Puck (Douglas) of Salinas; along with his 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his dear nephew Wally Olihovik of Alexandria, Virginia.
The Olihovik Family sends a sincere Thank You to the entire staff of Pacific Coast nursing for their tender care of our beloved John.

LeRoy Edwin Tow
December 1, 1952 - November 11, 2014

LeRoy Edwin Tow 61 of Soledad, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014. He was born December 1, 1952 in Moorhead, MN.
He loved classic cars, long drives, country music, animals, gardening, and picnics. His most favorite thing was bringing friends and family together for a meal he prepared.
He worked as a Food Service Administrator 6 years for Monterey County Probation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Lawrence Tow, older sister, Sharon Tow, younger sister, Bonnie Johnson and younger brother Dale Tow.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jewell Tow of Soledad, daughter, Lisa Tow of Soledad, sister, Debbie Pearson of Moorhead, MN., and brother, Roger Tow of Moorhead, MN.
Visitation will be held 11:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA., 93901.
