At CT Hospice, May 13, 2002 Richard T. Martin, 79, husband of Margaret Mark Martin of 771 Russell St., New Haven. Richard was born in New Haven, Dec. 9, 1922 a son to Leonard and Sarah (Sally) Brown Martin, he was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War, he served in both the US Army and Air Force and and was discharged as a M/SGT. Richard was a member of VFW Post 10128, North Haven and the Amer. Legion Post 0200 in Rocky Hill. He was roofer for the former Joseph Lyons Roofing Co. and was a lifelong New Haven resident.
Funeral service Friday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial with Full Military Honors at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Thurs. from 5 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.

Gerhard "Gerry" Gunter Korn

Gerhard "Gerry" G. Korn, 71, of Perry Rd., Hamden entered into rest May 20, 2002. He was the husband of Margaret Maskell Korn. Born in Breslau, Germany June 11, 1930 son of the late Ludwig H. Korn, MD and Alice Katz Korn of Norfolk, VA and was a resident of Hamden for 35 years. He was formerly manager of R & D Operations and Planning for the Research Group at Olin Corporation, retiring in 1982 after 22 years. He earned degrees from William & Mary, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and the University of New Haven, and had served as President of the New Haven Philatelic Society.
He is also survived by a daughter Nancy Korn of Chestnut Hill, MA, a son David Korn and his wife Nancy Dickson of Stow, MA and two grandsons, Blake and Drew Korn.
Funeral service will be held Friday morning May 24 at 11 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m.

George Wells Eighmy, Jr.
Woodbridge, CT - George Wells Eighmy, Jr., 72, husband of the late Sarah Seelye Eighmy, of 33 Spoke Drive passed away suddenly and peacefully at home on Monday, May 20, 2002. He was born in Buffalo, NY on September 10, 1929. Son of the late George Wells Eighmy and Margaret Harden Eighmy, he had lived in Woodbridge since 1967. He was a Nichols School (Buffalo, NY) graduate, Class of 1947, where he captained the soccer team in his senior year. He graduated from Princeton University in 1951 with a B.S. in Basic Engineering and was a member of Charter Club. After graduation, he worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Akron, OH until 1953. He met Sarah Edwards Seelye in 1951 in Hudson, OH and they were married on June 18, 1955. In 1953, he entered the U.S. Navy through Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, RI and served as an active duty Engineering Officer in Portsmouth, NH and Bath, ME from 1953-56. He was honorably discharged from the Navy as a Lieutenant in 1967 after serving in the Naval Reserve. He worked at Farrel Company in Ansonia, CT from 1956 until 1991. His early career included positions as Sales Engineer, Product Sales Engineer, and Northeast Field Sales Engineer in the plastic and rubber heavy process machinery divisions. In 1969, he was promoted to Manager, Mill and Calender Sales. From 1986 until his retirement in October 1991, he served as Product Manager, Mills and Calenders. After retiring from Farrel, he worked part-time until 1998 as a Sales Associate for Hancock Engineering, Inc. in Waterbury, CT. He was highly regarded in the plastics and rubber industry, having served as a lecturer at the Plastics Institute of America at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ; lecturer at the New York University Plastics Seminars; and speaker at many Society of Plastics Engineers meetings. He authored a number of seminal journal articles and conference papers on plastics calendering. His paper on “Calendering, ” which appeared in the 1978 Modern Plastics Encyclopedia (McGraw-Hill), is still widely referenced internationally. He was a member of the Farrel Old-Timer’s Club and believed in the innate nobility of American industry. He loved waggish discourse with extended family and friends (all generations!) and readily dispensed passionate soliloquies. He had many keen interests, including his grandchildren, WWI aviation history, antiquarian New England, reading, geography, theater, the Red Sox, humor, and uniquely useful arcana. He played semi-professional hockey for the Akron Stars from 1951-53 and founded the Woodbridge-Bethany Hockey Association in 1968. He coached in the Bethany-Woodbridge and Woodbridge Father’s Baseball Leagues. Most recently, he read to preschoolers at the Stork Club in Orange, CT under the pseudonym “Mr. Wells.” He spent much of his time in the past 20 years caring for his wife Sarah. Survivors include his sons T. Taylor Eighmy and his wife Nancy Kinner of Lee, NH, George W. Eighmy III and his wife Nicole of Meriden, CT, and William H. Eighmy and his wife Patricia of Milford, CT; a brother Thomas H. Eighmy and his wife Beverly of Bethlehem, PA; his grandchildren Kirstyn, William, Bryana, Arielle, and Katherine; and his dog Lucky.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church, 526 Amity Road, Bethany, CT. Burial was held at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Bethany Nursery Group (founded by his wife Sarah), P.O. Box 12, Bethany, CT 06524. Arrangements under the direction of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden.

Katherine Lewis Wallace, 96, wife of the late George A. Wallace, formerly of Barton Cir., North Haven passed away June 6, 2002 in Fairfax, VA after a brief illness. She was born in New Haven, February 15, 1906 a daughter of the late F. Frederick Parker Lewis and Grace Peck Lewis and was employed for many years at the Glen Terrace Garden Shop in Hamden She is survived by a son and his wife, Donald P. and Mary Wallace of Fairfax, VA, 3 grandchildren David, Jeff and Stephen Wallace and 5 great-grandchildren, Steven Grogan, Jason, Matthew, Sophia and James Wallace.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday, June 10, at 5 p.m. at the Spring Glen Church, United Church of Christ, Hamden. Ernest Field Goodyear

Entered into rest June 13, 2002 in Wallingford, Ernest Field Goodyear for 63 years loving husband of Marjorie Wentworth Goodyear of Masonic Ave., Wallingford formerly of West Haven. He was born Aug. 6, 1911 in Waterbury, CT to Ernest Fowler Goodyear and Martha Field Goodyear. He was a lifetime employee of AT & T where he was a linesman and a senior technician. He retired in 1973. He was a 69 year member of Annawon Masonic Lodge # 115 A.F.&A.M.; and was recently presented a plaque noting him to be the states oldest living Past Worshipful Master. He served as Worshipful Master in 1951 and he was also honored as Mason of the year. A past Master Counselor in 1932 of DeMolay, he was a member of the first ever class of DeMolay of the Robert H. Heller Chapter, joining March 6, 1928. He served on the advisory board from 1933 until his death and was Dad of DeMolay from 1956-61, also serving as state Dad of DeMolay. He influenced the lives of many fine young men in his work with DeMolay and was proud of achieving the Legion of Honor the highest of their degrees. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter and her husband, Martha "Marty" and Carmine Saverese of Orange, a son and his wife, Ernest "Chuck" and his wife Barbara Goodyear of Rochester, NH, grandchildren, Donald Saverese, Marcia Perkins, Colleen and Michael Saverese all of Lebanon, ME and Lisa and Paul Guzda of Gainesville, GA and great-grandchildren, Joseph Perkins and Alexis Saverese.
Memorial service will be Monday, June 24 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of West Haven. Contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, Book of Remembrance, 1 Church St., West Haven or Annawon Memorial Fund, 304 Center St., West Haven, CT 06516. In CT Hospice, June 17, 2002, Anna Jurdak Konopa Bozentka, 84, wife of the late Francis Bozentka of Whitney Ave., North Haven. She was born in New York City, Jan. 14, 1918, daughter of the late Lawrence Jurdak and Barbara Muzar Jurdak. Came to Bridgeport, CT in 1940 moved to New Haven in 1941 and North Haven in 1982. She is survived by three sons, Robert Konopa with whom she lived, Peter Konopa of Dearborn, MI, Edward Konopa of West Islip, NY, a granddaughter, two grandsons and a great-grandaughter. She was predeceased by her first husband, Rudolph P. Konopa. She had been employed at the former Macy's in New Haven. She was a parishioner of St. Rita Church, former member of AARP Chapter 3155, Ridge Road Seniors, Miller Line Dancing Class, Notre Dame Alumni Mother's Club, St. Brendan's Ladies Guild, St. Rita's Ladies Guild and Sokol Ladies Lodge of Bridgeport. She was a lifetime spousal member of the Conn. State Police Academy Alumni Association.
Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Thursday, June 20 at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rita Church at 10:30. She was predeceased by a brother, Raymond W. Rocklott and a sister, Marguerite Greim. Emily was born in West Haven, Jan. 12, 1917 a daughter of the late August G. & Johanna Knauss Rocklott. She was a member of St. John By The Sea Church, West Haven where she was a former member of the Parish Aid Society.

In the Veteran's Hospital, West Haven, June 3, 2002, Cleophas (Jack) James Randall, 80, husband of Jacqueline Rothier Randall of 523 Valley St., New Haven, father of Edwige, Evelyn and Wendell J. Randall all of New Haven and Marcel Randall of Houston, TX also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, predeceased by a sister, Ellece Horne and a brother, Robert J. Randall. He was born in Flynn, TX, Nov. 28, 1921 a son of the late Edward and Ida Williams Randall. During WW II he was a Corporal in the US Army and was stationed in Scotland, also participated in the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944. He saw action in the battles of Ardennes, Northern France and the Rhineland. Among his decorations were the American Theater Ribbon, the EAME Campaign Ribbon with 2 bronze stars and the Victory Ribbon with 1 service stripe and 5 overseas service bars. He re-enlisted for 3 years and served in Reims, France and Germany. He was a machinist for 33 years for Olin Corp. and retired in 1982. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Hamden.

Born in Meriden April 23, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Vera Coats Reynolds. She was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford and was employed as a nurse at Meriden Nursing Home. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and was a frequent traveler and a Vista volunteer.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna M. Iwanski of Durham and Rosemary Glorioso of South Meriden; two sons, Terence J. Murphy of South Meriden and Alan B. Murphy of Middletown; two brothers, Lawrence Reynolds and Charles Reynolds, both of Spring Hill, FL; a sister, Sheila Smith of Kentucky; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Mausoleum in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Roy will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
