Anne Schmitz McAviney died in New Haven on Jan. 20, 2003 at the age of 102. She was born in Derby, Oct. 6, 1900, daughter of the late Herman and Margaret Casey Schmitz. She spent most of her life in New Haven and Hamden. She was an honor graduate of Hillhouse High School, Class of 1918 and attended the Stebbins School after graduation. She was the widow of Thomas R. McAviney, they were married for 45 years. She leaves a daughter, Anne "Nan" M. and her husband, Robert L. Nolan of Hamden and was predeceased by a daughter, Joan M. Mooney of Wallingford. Mrs. McAviney leaves nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Louis, Herman and George Schmitz, and a grandson Thomas C. Nolan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning January 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Rita Church with her nephew, Monsignor Gerard G. Schmitz, Rector of St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield as the celebrant. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery will be private. Arrangements in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita School, 1601 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06517.

Sally was born Aug. 26, 1919 in Jasonville, IN, a daughter of the late John W. and Claire Hurst Edmonson. Sally was employed with the VA Hospital in Saginaw, MI for 15 years and later was a customer service representative with the Daniels Agency in Danbury for 10 years.

Born in Toronto, Canada, July 26, 1928 she was a licensed practical nurse and retired from the Masonic Health Care Center after 22 years of service. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church on the Green where she was active in the ladies groups and served on the Board of Directors of the Trinity Church Home. Mrs. Rowe is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Dunkel and her husband Conrad of New Haven, two sons, Richard R. Rowe and his wife Linda of New Haven and David S. Rowe and his wife Charlene of Meriden, sisters, Sherry Adams Preston of Peterborough, Ontario, Carole Adams of Hiawatha, Ontario, brothers; Edward Adams of Marathon Key, FL, Alexander, Charles and Harold Adams all of Hiawatha, Ontario and grandchildren, Jessica and Brian Rowe and Maxmillian Dunkel all of New Haven. She was predeceased by a sister, Rena Whetung.

In Branford, March 8, 2003 Alfred "Jack" Hansen Jr., 70, beloved husband of 49 years of Joan Chaplin Hansen of 17 Vineyard Rd., Branford. Father of Wendy Rein of Mystic, Donna Burnham of Michigan, Kristi Hansen of Branford, grandfather of Morgan Rein, Kehly Hansen and Kerry Rein. He was born in New Haven, March 14, 1932 son of the late Alfred Sr. and Amelia Agne Hansen. He worked as an asbestos insulator for 45 years for Local #33. He was in the U.S. Navy for 3 years during the Korean War. Jack was a member of Branford Yacht Club for 28 years, Elm City Gun Club for 20 years and Ancient Mariner Drum Corp. He was a 1951 graduate of Hamden High School and an award winning artist belonging to the Guilford, Madison, Old Lyme and Florida Keys Art Leagues. Jack wintered in Marathon Floriday for the past 10 years.

MERIDEN - Arthur Stevens Webster, 72, of 461 Pratt Street Ext., died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Haven. He was the husband for forty years of Marie Beaudoin Webster. Born in Meriden, Nov. 1, 1930, he was the son of the late Arthur and Augusta Kiewel Webster. He served during peacetime in the U.S. Navy and had been employed by the Perry Rug Company. He was an avid fisherman and baseball fan. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cynthia and Rodney Thomas, Denise Rivard of Meriden and Barbara and David Grindell of Wallingford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur and Lynn Webster of Meriden and John and Mary Webster of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister, Jane Patzke of Meriden; and was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren, Amanda Webster, Brittany Webster, Kaitlyn Webster, Michael Duffy and Kelly Webster, all of Meriden. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Webster.
Funeral service Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT. The Rev. Randy Somody will officiate. Relatives and friends may call Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Dr. Jean T. Gillen, 62, wife of Gene Gillen of 125 Old Towne Rd., Cheshire passed away March 26, 2003 in CT Hospice, Branford. She was born in New Haven, May 6, 1940 a daughter of Sonya Kissel Tetmeyer of North Haven and the late Gus Tetmeyer and had lived in Cheshire for many years. Jean graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1958 and earned a BS Degree from S.C.S.U. and Ph. D. from the University of CT. She was a school psychologist in the Cheshire Public School System for 30 years. Following retirement she had been active in the Cheshire Garden Club and had been chairwomen of the Garden Spot of the Month Selection Committee. She was the loving mother of three children, Jennifer Gillen of New Britain, Wendy Amenta and her husband Gerry of West Hartford and Peter Gillen of Cheshire. She is also survived by a brother, William Tetmeyer and is wife Sue of Honolulu, HI and her favorite Aunt Vi Kelly of North Haven.
Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Saturday morning, March 29 at 9:15. Christian burial service in Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church, 285 Alden Ave., New Haven at 10. He worked at many local theaters and was head electrician at the former New Haven Arena for many years. He was also a member of the Orange Congregational Church.
