James W. Barker, 86, husband of the late Emily Rankin Barker, of Linden Ave. Westbrook, formerly of Killingworth passed away Thursday Nov. 28, 2002 in CT Hospice. Brother of Jean Hunter of Pompton Lakes, NJ and the late Andrew J. and Robert W. Barker, uncle of Emily Strunk of Wayne, NJ and dear friend of Betty Crolley of Clinton. He was born in New Haven Aug. 29, 1916 a son of the late Andrew and Annie Webster Barker he served in the USAF Technical Training Command during WW II. He was a service station proprietor, having operated gas stations on Whalley Ave. in Westville for 11 years and another on Whitney Ave in North Haven for 8 years. Mr. Barker was a warranty claims analyst for Saab Motors in Orange until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Haven, a member of Wooster Lodge #79, A.F. & A. M., Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Lafayette Consistory of Bridgeport, Lodge Council Chapter Valley of New Haven, Past Patron Excelsior Chapter # 3 O.E.S., Past Royal Patron of Chatham Court #24 Deep River Order of the Amarants and B.P.O.E. Lodge #1784 of Westbrook.
Funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 2, at 10 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Joseph F. Barba

In Hamden, Nov. 23, 2000, Joseph F. Barba, Sr., 92 of Grandview Ave., entered into rest at his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Ann Marie Raccuia Barba. He was a resident of Hamden for over 60 years. Before his retirement in 1975 he was a Structural Engineer for over 45 years. He was employed by Westcott and Mapes of New Haven, the Town of Hamden as a Town Engineer and Sielye, Stevenson and Value of New York City. Mr. Barba later established his own general contracting firm in building construction. Loving father of Joseph F. Barba, Jr. and his wife Agnes of Cheshire, Ronald T. Barba and his wife Katherine of Greenwich and John A. Barba and his wife Margell of Oakton, VA. He was also survived by 11 grandchildren and a great granddaughter. He was predeceased by a sister Theresa Maiorano.
Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. At his home, January 4, 2002, Paul John Berlepsch, 46, Loving Husband of Priscilla Allen-Berlepsch of 27 Maplewood Terr., Hamden, and devoted father of Katie Berlepsch, son of Eugene and Lorraine Koller Berlepsch of Hamden, brother of Eugene "Skip" Berlepsch and his wife Barbara of Orange, Brian Berlepsch and his wife Holly of Northford, Jane Berzan and her husband Jonathan of Falls Church, VA and Joan Berlepsch of Hamden. Survived by 11 nieces and nephews, many family and friends. He was a partner at Streamline Press, North Branford, earlier he had worked for Spear Newman of West Haven and was manager of the Chapel Wine Shop in New Haven. A graduate of Hamden High School class of 1973 and Quinnipiac College receiving a B.S. in Marketing in 1978. An active member and trustee of Hamden Plains United Methodist Church and a coach with the Hamden Fathers Soft Ball League.
Funeral service in Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, 15 Church St., Hamden, Monday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. Friends may call Sunday from 5 - 8 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. In Westfield Care Center, Meriden, Virginia Beardsley Bloomingdale, 89, formerly of 25 Bridle Path Trail, Killingworth, died one day before her 90th birthday, wife of Walter Bloomingdale. Born in New Haven, Nov. 4, 1912, a daughter of the late Daniel and Dorothy Somers Beardsley. She had worked as a telephone operator for SNET Co.and was a member of the Rainbow Girls. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Virginia Rioux of Meriden; two sisters, Dorothy Munson of Hamden and Lorraine Kinsella of Hamden; a brother, Frederick Beardsley of Florida; two grandchildren, John Stagni of East Haddam and Lisa Russo of Middletown and two great-grandchildren, Fallon Russo of Middletown and Leanna Stagni of East Haddam.
Funeral service will be Wed., Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral.

Hamden - Hugo L. Bersano, 81, of 1199 Whitney Ave., passed away Thurs., July 17, 2003. He was born in Hamden, Oct. 5, 1921 a son of the late Louis J. and Angelina Marletti Bersano and was a lifelong Hamden resident. Mr. Bersano was a 1945 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. He worked as an accountant for the New Haven Housing Authority and most recently for the State of Connecticut Treasury Dept. He was a world traveler and a member of the "7 Continents Club". He is survived by two sisters; Olga Spargo of Hamden, Mary Cappetta of North Haven, a brother; Peter Bersano of Arlington, VA, 4 nieces and 6 nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated in St. Stephen Church, 400 Ridge Rd., Hamden, Thurs., July 24 at 10 a.m. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Margaret (Peggy) Banks

Lieutenant Colonel USAR, Retired. Born February 19, 1945, the daughter of Ava A. and the late John H. Banks.Graduated from Hamden High Class of 1963 and from Boston Univ. School of Nursing and was inducted into the International Nursing Honor Society (Simga Theta Tau) and was a member of the Phi Beta Sorority. She served 5 years active duty in the Army Nurse Corps in Vietnam, where she was awarded the Bronze Star. She was a member of the Retired Officer Association and the VFW Post 9965. She worked at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Denver and West Haven for 23 years. She is survived by a brother, John A Banks of Hamilton, Ohio and a sister, Rosemarie B. Olsen of Guilford.
At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours and burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405. BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden has been entrusted with the arrangements.

She was born in North Bergen, NJ, Nov. 24, 1913, a daughter of the late Wilhelm and Sophie Martin Schirmer. She worked for many years as a Dietitian in the Orange Public Schools. Mrs. Blennerhassett was a 50 year member of Mystic Chapter # 20 Order of the Eastern Star and she had volunteered over 1000 hours at the Masonic Home. She is survived by daughters: Marilyn McHenry of New Port Richey, FL, Ruth Eren of Woodbury, CT and Susan Sweeney of Farmington, CT, a son, John L. Blennerhassett, Jr. of New Port Richey, FL, sisters:, Helen Holywood of Sun City West, Az and Martha Bergus of Duarte, CA. Also survived by five grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Gunnar Bjorkman

Gunnar Bjorkman, 83, husband of 51 years to Ruth Koch Bjorkman of Corbin Rd., Hamden, formerly of Stamford, passed away on March 11, 2004 of a cardiac arrest. Born on June 12, 1920 in Fredriksberg, Sweden, son of the late Axel Fredrik and Hedvig Bergsten Bjorkman. For more than twenty years Mr. Bjorkman was the publisher and editor of Scandinavian-American newspapers, Nordiske Tidene and Nordsjern Svea, in Brooklyn, New York. For his work he was honored by the Kings of Sweden and Norway. He lived in Stamford for more than 50 years and was a member of the Sons of Norway, Vasa Order and St. John's Lutheran Church. He is survived by his daughter Karen Bjorkman of Arlington, MA, his son Ian Bjorkman of Hamden, grandchildren Hannah Jean and Sarah Beth Fleckenstein, and Raymond and Seth Bjorkman.
Friends are invited to a Funeral Service at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 305 St. Ronan St., New Haven, CT 06511 on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 11AM.
