Suzonne M. English
Age 50 of Newark died Sunday, June 17, 2001 in Riverside Transitional Care, Wilmington.
Suzonne worked in the billing department of Delaware Clinical and Laboratory Physicians. She was formerly employed at ETI Conrad Pyle Company, Kennett Square and worked part time at the Wilmington Music School. She was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church a current member of St. Margaret of Scotland Church and a certified volunteer reading teacher at New Start. She received a Bachelors Degree in English from the University of Delaware.
She is survived by her sister Lillian (Mimi) English of Newark, her aunts, Virginia Bartal of Lima, OH and Grace English of Montague, NJ and several cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 230 Executive Drive., Glasgow on Wednesday, June 20 at 10 am. A funeral service will follow in the Chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Hwy. On Wednesday at 11:45 am. Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Wilmington Music School, 4101 Washington St., Wilmington, DE 19802 or Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Clayton Building Ste 100, Wilmington, DE 19810.

Smith, Daniel F.
Navy
Daniel F. Smith, 73, of Bear, died on Thursday June 14 at home.
He was born in Wilmington, and had served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Smith sailed on the maiden voyage of the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.
He was employed in various jobs throughout his life. Most recently, he was a flea-market vendor at many auctions and sales throughout Delaware and Maryland. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing and boating.
He is survived by a sister, Mary E. Reed, of Townsend; and many nieces and nephews.
Services and interment will be held 11:00AM Tuesday June 26 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Newark.

Townsend, Sr., Norman D.
Norman D. Townsend, Sr., age 70, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home with his family after a hard battle with cancer.
Mr Townsend retired from Amtrak where he worked for 40 years as a freight and passenger conductor. He greatly enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren. He showed a tremendous amount of enthusiasm when shopping for groceries with his coupons. He passionately supported his family during his retirement. Mr. Townsend also liked to relax and spend time with Marie and the children at Sea Aire in Rehoboth Beach. He is predeceased by his father, Martin Townsend, Sr., and his mother and stepfather, Martha and Francis Begley.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie (Ferretti) Townsend; four sons, Norman, Jr., David, Craig, and Frank, Sr.; his daughter, Donna Marie Paoli; a brother, Martin Townsend, Jr.; a sister, Edna Deputy; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, all of Wilmington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 27 at 10 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1414 N. King Street, Wilmington. Friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday evening between 6 pm and 8 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. Richardson, Edward W.
Edward W. Richardson, of Winchester, MA, formerly of Dover, died suddenly at home on July 6, 2001. He was 75.
Ted was born in Dover to the late William P. and Constance W. Richardson, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Lucey Richardson, and his second wife, Madelyn Nahabedian Richardson.
He attended the Dover Public School grades 1 - 8, graduated from The Hill School, Pottstown, PA in 1943, and then graduated from MIT, Cambridge, MA, in 1946, with a B.S. in engineering. He was in the Navy V-12 Program at MIT during WWII, and subsequently served 20 years as an officer in the Naval Reserve.
Following graduation from college, he was chief engineer at Richardson and Robbins, Co., in Dover, until its sale to Wm. Underwood Co., Watertown, MA, in 1959, which prompted his move to Massachusetts, as an engineer for them.
While in Dover, he was very active in the Jaycees, and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife, Ruby J. Richardson of Winchester, MA; two daughters, Constance R. Cecil and Suzanne L. Richardson, both of Jamaica Plain, MA; two brothers, Alden B. Richardson, of Dover, and William Richardson of Rehoboth Beach; and 5 nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held today at the Parish of the Epiphany Episcopal Church, Winchester, MA.
Joyce W. "Peg" Cockerham
Age 72, of Rising Sun, MD, died, Thursday, July 19, 2001 at Union Hospital, Elkton, MD.
Mrs. Cockerham was born March 13, 1929 in Landenberg, PA to the late Raymond H. and Edith F. West. She was retired from W.L. Gore & Associates as a technician in 1991.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Strunk, her second husband, Delbert E. Walker, Sr. and her third, Coy Harold Cockerham, a brother, Taylor West, sister Grace Soha and a grandson, Michael Walker. Mrs. Cockerham is survived by her son, Delbert E. Walker, Jr. of Yorklyn, DE, daughter and son-n-law, Carol W. and Edward T. Belote, Sr. of Rising Sun, MD, a brother Warren West and his wife Margaret of Dover, DE, 2 sisters Charlotte Wollens and her husband Dwight of Landenberg, PA, and Jeanne Kennedy and her husband Spencer of West Grove, PA, 2 sisters-n-law, Arlene West of Oxford, PA and Betty Cockerham of Newark, DE, 3 grandchildren, Edward Belote, Jr., Joyce Urbanski and Jeffrey Walker, 5 great grandchildren, Jessica, Jaclyn and John Ritchie and Emily and Edward T. Belote, III, several cousins including Jean Davis of Pennsville, NJ, nephews, nieces and their families.
Service will be held 2pm, Sunday, July 22, 2001 at the R.T. FOARD AND JONES FUNERAL HOME, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE where family and friends may visit from 1 to 2pm. Burial will be held in the Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery, Newark, following the service.

Miles, Mary Jane
MARY JANE MILES of Magnolia, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in Christiana Care. She was 58.
She was born in Falmouth, MA October 7, 1942, to the late Antone and Dominga Pires. She has lived in the Dover area since 1982.
She was most recently employed as an aide at Polytech High School in Woodside. In the past she worked in food service at Dover Downs, retail sales at Kmart and JC Penney, and as a clerk at Hylton's Market in Camden.
Mrs. Miles is survived by her husband of 26 years, Larry; 2 sons, John Amado of Dover, and Anthony Amado and his wife Patricia, also of Dover. She is survived by 3 brothers, David Pires of New Bedford, MA, Peter Pires of Brockton, MA, and Anthony Pires of Lowell, MA. She was preceded in death by her brother James Pires. She is survived by 5 sisters, Bonita Hovey-Hawley of CA, Cecelia Toomer of Falmouth, MA, Hilda Rosario of Hyannis, MA, Linda Pires of New Bedford, MA, and Marina Silvia of New Bedford, MA; 4 grandchildren; a niece, Jennifer Mosley of Camden; 2 nephews, Jamey Pires of Falmouth, MA, and Jason Pires of Camden; and her sister-in-law Joan Pires of Dover.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover ,at 12:00pm. Friends may call at 10:00am. Interment will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, DE.
Reese, Walter V.
Walter V. Reese, 83, of New Holland, Pa., formerly of Smyrna and Phila., died on Thursday August 2.
He was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late Walter G. and Bertha Von Nieda Reese.
Mr. Reese was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a 1st Sergeant in Europe. He was employed as a machinist for Keebler Biscuit, and as a purchasing agent for Tasty Baking Co., both of Philadelphia. He retired in 1982.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Smyrna, where he was active in the Methodist Men’s Group, a service organization within the church.
His wife of 46 years, Helen C. Reese, died in 1994.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Larry Fanus, of Gap, Pa.; a brother, Ralph Reese, of Sarasota, Fla.; and 3 grandsons, Timothy, Gregory, and Jeffrey Fanus, all of Gap, Pa.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday August 7 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 20-24 W. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 9:30 AM.
Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Childers, Carroll C.
Carroll C. Childers, 83, High Street, Felton, passed away Saturday August 04, 2001 at Courtland Manor Nursing Home Dover.
He was born on March 03, 1918 in Vera, VA to William and Elizabeth (Ferguson) Childers.
He was a dairy farmer in the Lynchburg, VA area. He then servied in the US Army, while in the Army he became blinded serving in Hawaii. He is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by Wife, Virginia Childers of Felton, DE. Son, Ken Childers of Dover, DE. Son, Barry Childers of Orlando, FL. Grand child and her husband, Kenda and Mark Galipo of Felton, DE. Grand child and her husband, Gayle and Mark Mabrey of Felton, DE. Great Grandchildren, Amber and Brooke Mabrey of Felton, DE.
Services of Remembrance will be held Thursday 08/09/2001 01:00 PM at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE . Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover, DE

Stephen F. Zsedeny
Age 49, of Newark, DE, died Sunday, August 5, 2001 at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with Cancer.
A graduate of Newark H.S., Class of 69, Stephen began employment as an installer with Diamond State Telephone before serving his country in the Navy. Upon completion of his tour of active duty, he resumed his career with the telephone company, (later named Bell Atlantic, now Verizon), where he advanced to the position of systems technician. He recently retired from the company with 32 years of service.
A man with many skills and endearing qualities; Stephen enjoyed computers, piloting small aircraft and challenging games of chess. He will always be remembered for his kindheartedness and devotion to his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Lucille and Stafford Ellsworth of Newark, his sister Barbara Wilt of Tacoma, WA, a half brother, 2 stepchildren and a beloved extended family of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Step-grandchildren and in-laws.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm, Friday, August 10, 2001 at the Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, Route 13, New Castle, DE. Family and friends may visit Thursday, August 9th from 7-9pm at the R.T. FOARD AND JONES FUNERAL HOME, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Interment will follow the service in the adjoining park.
