Sara D. Reed,
church organist
Sara D. Reed, 91, of Lewes, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Beebe Medical Center, in Lewes.
She was born in Lewes, the daughter of the late Theodore and Sadie (Thompson) Donovan.
Sara was a homemaker and a lifetime member of the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway and their church organist for 70 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Alvin F. Reed in 1987.
She is survived by two daughters, Kay Mullen and husband John of West Grove, Pa. and Bette Phillips and her husband Lou of Lewes; six grandchildren, Gary Futcher, Brenda Phillips, Clint Phillips, Gail Schiefelbein, Greg Mullen and Andrea Robillard; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church, Rehoboth Beach, with burial in adjoining church cemetery.

Thelma “Kate” Schmid,
retired nurse
Thelma “Kate” Schmid, 83, of Riverdale, Millsboro, passed away Friday, March 4, 2005, at home.
Mrs. Schmid was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Green Spring, W.Va.
She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. She was an registered nurse, and had been an active member of the Rehoboth VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, John P. Schmid; a sister, Anna L. Jackson and her husband Richard of Newark; a brother, Ray E. Brown and his wife Blanche of Pleasanton, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Goodwin of Newark, and Dorothy Schmid of Enterprise, Ala.
Services and burial were private.

John Russell “Jack” Dickerson,
retired banker
John Russell “Jack” Dickerson, 58, of Milford, formerly of Harrington, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 at home.
Born on Nov. 29, 1946, in Milford, Jack was the son of the late Oscar Russell and Ida E. (Workman) Dickerson. He graduated from Harrington High School and graduated from the Temple Business School with a degree in accounting. He went to work at Farmers Bank in Dover for many years before being transferred to the Wilmington office. Shortly after his transfer, Jack had to retire on disability due to epilepsy, which led to physical and mental complications. In spite of these disabilities, Jack still was an avid chess player and had a high aptitude for math and accounting. He was able to utilize these skills at Crossroads of Milford where he volunteered three days a week.
Jack was a very caring uncle and always had a special soft spot for new babies in the family. He was a very religious man, he loved praying and reading his Bible. Jack was a strong financial supporter of the Billy Graham Ministries. He was an avid walker around Milford and would walk between four and five miles a day. Jack was also an avid collector of Franklin Mint statuary and plates. He enjoyed watching baseball and football games on television and also enjoyed tracking the weather.
He is survived by 2 sisters, Joann D. Everett, of Wyoming and Bonnie Cullen and her husband Frank, of Easton, Pa.; 2 nieces, Kimberly Murtha and her husband Robert, of Smyrna and Kelly Mereider and her husband John, of Dover; three nephews, Russell J. Jarrell, of Dover, Eric Wilber and his wife Katie and Kurt Wilbur and his wife Valerie, all of Lewes; 11 great nieces and nephews, two great-great nieces and nephews; and an extended family of Dr. Robert and Nancy Ricker and their children Cathy, Susan, Ruthie and Roberta.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington where friends may call after 12 noon. Burial will be in Hollywood cemetery , Milford-Harrington Highway, Harrington. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army, 117 S.E. Front Street, Milford, DE 19963.
Willam George Morrison Jr.,
retired engineer
William George Morrison Jr., 83, of Millsboro and formerly of Clayton and Newark, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Green Valley Terrace, Millsboro.
Mr. Morrison was a retired self-employed engineer.
He was born in Marshallton on Sept. 3, 1921, to the late William G. Sr. and Elsie Jarmon Morrison.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Bayly Morrison, in 1997.
He is survived by a daughter, Lynette M. Wilson and her husband James of Georgetown; a brother, Paul T. Morrison of Glasgow; three grandchildren, Melinda Wentworth, James Wilson Jr. and William Jonathan Wilson; and three great-grandchildren, Emily Wentworh, Brianna Wentworth and Joshua Wilson.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 8, at the St. John’s United Methodist Church, S.R. 30, Sprinfield Crossroads, Georgetown.

Charles M. Kaufman,

Charles M. Kaufman, 71, of Ocean View, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at the Lewes Convalescent Center.
Charlie was born in Ocean View to the late Lester M. and Helen Johnson Kauffman. An entrepreneur, he was a Realtor, auctioneer, appraiser, retailer and restaurateur. In 1966, he started his real estate career with Anderson-Stokes. In 1973, he and Blake Timmons, his friend and fellow Realtor, founded Ocean View Real Estate. In 1975, Charlie and his son, Robert, started Atlantic Auction Co. In 1994, Ocean View Real Estate was sold to Seacoast Realty. He and his wife, Barbara, also owned and operated Country Wicker Etc., Kauffman’s Crossing Trains and Miniatures and were partners in Bootsie’s Barbecue.
He was a member of the Peninsula Community Church, The Gideons, the Sussex County and National Association of Realtors , the Bethany-Fenwick Chamber of Commerce, the South Eastern Sussex Rotary Club, the National Rifle Association, the Train Collectors Association and the Shore Line Garden Railroad Club.
He is usvrived by his wife, Barbara L. Kauffman; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Terry Kauffman of Ocean View; his daughter and son-in-law, Retha K. and Jay Cleveland of Dagsboro; stepsons, Jeffrey C. Wharton of Frankford and Kevin C. Wharton of Ocean View; stepdaughter Beth W. Rogers and her husband Dave of Frankford; two grandchildren, Matthew Kauffman and his wife Megan and RJ Kauffman and his wife Jan; five stepgrandchildren, Meghan, Amber, Kevin Jr. and Chelsea Wharton and Olivia Rogers; and a great-grandson, Trey Kauffman.
Services were held at Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church, Ocean View, with burial in the church cemetery.

Virginia M. Elderdice,
retired teacher
Virginia M. Elderdice, 84, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Milford Memorial Hospital.
She lived in Salisbury, Md. from 1955 until 2003, when she moved to Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harold MacConney and the late Emma Virginia Crowley MacConney. She attended Forest Park High School, and graduated from Towson Teacher’s College. In 1945 she married Robert A. Elderdice, a Salisbury native.
Mrs. Elderdice taught for a number of years at Prince Street School and Salisbury CO-OP Kindergarten. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry and the Women’s Altar Guild, in addition to teaching Sunday school.
Her great love, and the focus of her attention for many years, was Pemberton Hall, the 18th century plantation on Pemberton Drive west of Salisbury. She did historical research on the Handy family, who lived at Pemberton Hall, and was instrumental in the docent training program for the Pemberton Hall Foundation. She received an award from the Wicomico County Historical Society for her dedicated work and research.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Dennis Creasy of Ocean View; her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Laura Elderdice of Marathon, Fla.; a granddaughter, Jennifer E. Grant; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Trujillo, Chelsea Grant, and Maliyah Grant, all of Mt. Airy, Md.; a sister, Charlotte Hall of Westminster, Md.; two nieces, Terry Renahan of Union Bridge, Md. and Sandra DeBritain of Richardson, Texas; and a nephew, Michael Hall of Sykesville, Md.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Elderdice, in 1995.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, at 2 p.m., at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 115 St. Peter’s Street, Salisbury. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the Parish House of St. Peter’s Church. Interment will follow in Parsons cemetery , Salisbury.

Dr. J. Allan Bickling,
Healthcare systems manager
Dr. J. Allan Bickling of Rehoboth Beach died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 56.
Dr. Bickling was born July 14, 1948, in Dover, son of Kathryn V. Bickling of Dover and the late James Albert Bickling.
He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving from 1966-1969.
Dr. Bickling earned his bachelor of science degree from Salisbury State University; his master of science from Johns Hopkins University; and his doctorate of public administration from Nova University.
He began his distinguished career of senior management for healthcare systems and other businesses as an assistant dean in the registrar’s office at Chesapeake Community College. In 1976, he became the assistant administrator/treasurer for Shore Memorial Hospital in Easton, Md.
He was a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, achieving his Fellow Status, Hospital Financial Management Association and the American Management Association. He was an associate adjunct professor for the University Of Baltimore and adjunct professor with Chesapeake Community College.
Among his other numerous posts in civic and healthcare organizations, he was a board advisory member for University of Maryland and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Area Health Education Council, the Tri-County Board, a certified Lay Leader for the United Methodist Church and the Crisfield Elks 1044. He also served on the Governor’s Commission for Diabetes.
He is survived by wife, Carolyn Ann (Swann) Bickling, whom he married on March 24, 1967; a daughter, Enid Bickling of Eden, Md.; his mother, Kathryn V. Bickling of Dover; and a brother, Timothy Bickling of Elkton.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Greensboro, Md., where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Greensboro cemetery , Greensboro, Md.

Lucille M. Talley Green,

Lucille M. Talley Green, 92, passed away at Forwood Manor February 28, 2005.
Lucille was born in Wilmington, to the late Amos and Jennie Miller Talley. She was the wife of the late George E. Green, whom she married in 1956. Mrs. Green was a former member of Grace Episcopal Church and was a member of Hillcrest-Bellefonte United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Sellers Senior Center. Lucille enjoyed playing bingo, pinochle, and was an avid Bowler.
Survivors include three daughters, Jane M. Potter of Wilmington, Helen L. Mechell of Lewes and Lois A. Shannahan of Jacksonville, Fla.; 2 stepsons, George and Gary Green; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. Lucille was predeceased by 1 brother; and 2 sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to Lucille’s Life Celebration, 11 a.m. to noon Friday, March 4, followed by a funeral service at noon at Beeson Memorial Services, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington. Interment will be in Grace Episcopal Church cemetery.

Rose Lee Vickers, 73, of Milford, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, in Harrison House, Georgetown.
Mrs. Vickers worked for Townsend’s Inc. in Millsboro, Perdue, Inc. in Milford and Conagra in Milford, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Harvest Temple Church, Delmar.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Vickers, in 1985.
She is survived by four sons, Stanford Vickers of Ellendale, Larry Dorsey and Tommy Dorsey, both of Clayton and George Vickers of Dover; six daughters, Minnie Dorsey, Brenda Dorsey and Pecolia Dorsey, all of Milford, Carolyn Watson of Millsboro, Judy Vickers of Laurel and Florence Dorsey of Dover; four brothers, Alfred Dorsey of Millsboro, Chester Dorsey of Scotchplains, N.J., Ivory Hopkins of Harbeson and Nathan Hopkins of St. Riley, Kan.; five sisters, Melissa Dorsey of Ellendale, Phyllis Lewis, Regina Taylor and Lavolia Hopkins, all of Millsboro, and Stephanie Dukes of Georgetown; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Bruce W. Donovan,

Bruce W. Donovan, 56, of Bethany Beach, passed away at home Saturday, March 5, 2005.
Mr. Donovan was born in Milford, the son of Georgia Evans Donovan of Milton and the late Leighton Donovan. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years. He graduated from Milton High School and was a member of Milton Wesleyan Church, Millville Volunteer Fire Co. and former member of the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Co. He was a member of Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation and Friends Society, American Lighthouse Foundation and Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Caragliano Donovan of Bethany Beach; six children and their spouses, Tracey and Joseph Pawley of Wilmington, Philip Oneschuk and Melody Page of Selbyville, Jan and R.J. Kauffman of Millville, Leigh Ann and Dave Luscan of Rehoboth Beach, Victoria Robinson and James Morris of North East, Md. and Sean Donovan of Rehoboth Beach; three grandchildren, Markie Brandner, Corey Oneschuk and Trey Kauffman; a sister, Jeanne D. Roney of Franklinville, N.J.; a niece, Katie Roney of Franklinville and a nephew, Jonathan Roney of Franklinville.

Vietnam veteran
Paul Clifton Harrell, 55, of Georgetown, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Samuel C. and Olive (Tingle) Harrell.
He was a retired commercial fisherman and a Vietnam Veteran, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his brother, Samuel D. Harrell of Davenport, Fla.; and three sisters, Mary Farber of Angola, Joye Sammons and Peggy West, both of Georgetown.
Services will be private.
