Eachus, Charlette A.

Charlette A. Eachus Age 66 of Newark, DE passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Christiana Hospital.

Mrs. Eachus worked for many years in the housekeeping departments of the Wanamaker and Macy's department stores.

Charlette enjoyed reading and gardening.

She especially enjoyed time with the children.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, George R. Eachus; and her children, Vernon Jack Geedy, Steven Wayne Geedy, Patricia Ann Snyder, Annie E. Eachus and Susan E. Smith.

Other survivors include 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2003, at 1 pm at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St., New Castle.

Friends may visit with the family from 12-1 pm at the funeral home on Monday afternoon.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.

GEBHART FUNERAL HOMES of New Castle County

Eastburn, Mary M.

Mary M. Eastburn, age 87, of Bear, DE, died Tuesday February 4, 2003 at Millcroft Healthcare Center in Newark after an extended illness.

Mrs. Eastburn was born November 1, 1915 in West Newton, PA, the daughter of the late Claude and Rhoda Bowersox Mitchell. She was a lifetime homemaker and a lifelong member of Christiana Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Francis A. Eastburn, a daughter Janet Chickadel of Brandon, FL, a grandson Michael Chickadel, serving in the US Air Force in Louisiana and a great grandson.

Service will be held Saturday February 8, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at R.T. FOARD & JONES FUNERAL HOME, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711 where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Marys name may be made to Christiana Presbyterian Church c/o the funeral home.

Eanes, Bryanna Nichole

Bryanna Nichole Eanes, a 5-month-old daughter of Tara Eanes Kemp and Bruce W. Smith, Jr. died Thursday, January 9, 2003 in Kent General Hospital.

She was a happy baby who loved music playing in the background. She was the family's precious gift from God.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Billy & Carol Eanes of Camden; paternal grandparents, Joyce & Paul Nickerson of Dover and Bruce Smith Sr. & Linda Smith of Hartly; a sister, Michelle Kemp of Harrington and a brother Timothy Winkler of Dover; numerous aunts and uncles in the Dover area.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 13, 2003 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 South Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Iken, Francisca Maria

Francisca Maria Iken, age 90, of Bear, DE went home to be with the Lord on January 4, 2005. Mrs. Iken was a registered nurse who served during World War II on one of the first Red Cross teams that helped to liberate the concentration camp detainees at Bergen-Belsen. Later she served in Indonesia where she met and married her husband of 55 years, Willem Iken. Francisca enjoyed serving others throughout her life as a private duty nurse. She and her husband traveled to many places throughout the world. Francisca was also a loving mother and grandmother.

Francisca is survived by her 2 daughters, Rosemary Avenarius and her husband Derk, and Marie Jose Iken; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings reside in the Netherlands, Belgium and New Zealand.

Services for Mrs. Iken have been planned for Monday, January 10, 2005 at 10:00 AM at The Franciscan Center, Wilmington, DE.

Donald Eastburn

Age 84 of Milford, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Eastburn was born on December 19, 1924 in Bear, Delaware son of the late Horace T. and Ida (Hutchinson) Eastburn.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country proudly during World War II and the Korean War. After his commitment to the service ended, he married the love of his life, Anna McCall in 1948 and started a family.

Mr. Eastburn was employed for 20 years with the Diamond State Telephone Company. His love of animals prompted him to open and operate the Delaware Animal Care Center in Newark in 1967. He was also co-owner of East Construction Company.

In 1979, he relocated to Clayton and built a thriving dairy cattle and farming enterprise, Cedarcrest Vu Farms and later branched out into beef cattle and standard bred horses. He retired to Milford in 2005.

Donald had an inspiring and personal faith with the Lord and was active in many fundamentalist churches over the years. He served as a Deacon, an Elder and a Youth Group leader. He loved singing and listening to the old hymns. He currently attended the First Baptist Church in Milford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Eastburn and Granville Eastburn.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Eastburn; two daughters and a son-in-law; Anne Adams of Newark and Lynn and Gerald Savage of Milford; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald W. and Diane Eastburn of Clayton; a brother, Thompson Eastburn of Milford; a sister, Janet Jenkins of Toughkenamon, PA; four grandchildren; Ryan Savage, Jaime Carter, Duane Douglas and Branden Douglas and four great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, 6062 Old Shawnee Rd, Milford, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m.

Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Route 13, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church, 6062 Old Shawnee Rd, Milford, DE, 19963 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE, 19963.

Easterling, Ruth

Ruth Easterling of Dover died Monday February 16, 2004 at Capitol Nursing Home. She was 78.

Mrs. Easterling was born April 3, 1925 in Baxley, Georgia to the late Issac David Carter and Fannie Deen Carter. She lived in New York from 1949 to 1985. In 1985 they moved to Dover, Delaware.

She worked as a bookkeeper at a cement company, Mary Maculate Hospital in Jamaica, Queens, NY, and Kay Jewelry Store in Brooklyn, NY. She also volunteered in the gift shop of the Trump Pavilion Nursing Home in Jamaica, Queens, NY for 5 years. She enjoyed reading and crocheting.

Mrs. Easterling was preceded in death by her husband William in March 2000, and son James L. Easterling in September 1992.

She is survived by two sons, William C. Easterling III and his wife Edith of Marydel, DE, and David D. Easterling and his wife Loretta of St. Clair, MI; one daughter, Patricia Easterling Vilpido and her husband Rojin of Dover; 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon on Thursday, February 19, 2004 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call 7 - 9 pm Wednesday, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Camden.

Badell, Barbara

Barbara Badell of Dover passed away Sunday 22, 2002 at home with her family. She was 60.

Mrs. Badell was born January 16, 1942 in Kennedyville, Maryland to the late Harry Thomas Legg and Anna N. Legg. She has lived in the Dover area for the last 35 years

She was a cosmetologist retiring in 1995 after working 15 years for Nu Attitude salon. She was also a long time bus driver for Dawson Bus Company. She has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1963. She was President of the Relief Society of the Dover Ward, as well as President of the Young Women's group and held other callings over the years. Her most recent calling was Ward Missionary.

Mrs. Badell is survived by her husband of 41 years, George Badell of Dover; 4 sons who served full time missions for the church, Nathan Badell and his wife Jill of Camden, George Badell of Culpeper, VA, Matthew Badell and his wife Ratry of Provo, UT, and Jason Badell of Salt Lake City, UT; 1 daughter, Natalie Badell of Dover; 1 brother, Lewis Legg of Millington, MD, 2 sisters, Constance Smith of Baltimore, MD and Betty Larimore of Millington, MD; 2 grandchildren, Alexandra and Sophia Badell of Camden; and many other close relatives.

She was extremely devoted to her family. She loved to serve others. She had a great love for nature and animals. She loved music and instilled that love in her children. Her hugs will be missed by so many.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday September 26, 2002 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 237 W. Lebanon Road, Dover. Friends may call Wednesday, September 25, 2002 from 6 - 9 PM at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Instead of flowers please make donations to Delaware Hospice, Central Division, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.
