Lafferty, Raymond D.

CAMDEN—Raymond D. Lafferty of Camden died Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at Capitol Nursing Home, Dover. He was 83.

He was born on May 11, 1923 in Cheswold, Delaware, son of the late Edwin J. and Ida Morris Lafferty.

Mr. Lafferty attended elementary school in Cheswold and was a 1941 graduate of Dover High School. He also attended Goldey College in Wilmington, Delaware.

He entered the Army in January 1943 and served 26 months in North Africa and Europe. He participated in five campaigns, including the D-Day invasion of Southern France on August 15, 1944 and was discharged from the service in November 1945.

Mr. Lafferty was a Certified Public Accountant with office in Dover for 45 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Camden, member and past president of the Camden-Wyoming Rotary Club, A Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, life member of the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company, member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants. He also served nine years as a member and secretary of the Camden Town Council.

Mr. Lafferty was an avid football fan and faithfully supported the University of Delaware for 30 plus years. He also enjoyed tracing his family genealogy.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Morris O. Lafferty and John E.H. Lafferty.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Jane Moor Dawes Lafferty, children Jay Lafferty and his wife Yvonne of Wilmington, and Joan Caldwell and her husband Bill of Blairstown, NJ, a sister Victorine Hopkins and her husband Homer T. of Sandy Hook, CT, sister-in-law Margaret E. Lafferty of Lancaster, PA, grandchildren Sara Lafferty Snyder and her husband Kevin of Thorndale, PA, Colleen Lafferty of Wilmington, Jennifer (Caldwell) Yudichak and her husband Marty of Hackettstown, NJ and Jeff Caldwell and his fiancée Laura McEvoy of Blairstown, NJ and a great granddaughter Julia Yudichak of Hackettstown, NJ and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 75133, Chicago, IL 60675 or Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 16 N. Main St., Camden, DE 19934.

Theoples Baines, Jr.

Theoples "Buddy" Baines, Jr. died Sunday, January 23rd, he was 70 years old. Buddy, as he was known to family and friends, was born on December 23rd, 1940, to the late Theoples Baines, Sr. and Francis Watson Baines.

Theoples was preceded in death by his brothers Calvin Baines, Curtis Baines, and Randolph Baines; two sisters Christine Baines and Ethel Mae Sturgis, and his two sons, Marvin Hicks and Timothy Baines.

Theoples received his education in North Hampton Virginia County School. He started work at a very young age in his home town. Later in his life, he began working at Port Mahorn in Delaware. He then decided to make Dover home for his family.

He worked as a construction worker for a short time, eventually starting his own business, Baines Trucking and Operation, in the 1980's. He operated his trucking company until he was no longer able to work.

His hobbies and interests working on and cleaning his cadillacs and motorcycles. He also loved to go fishing on his boat, and feeding his four geese that resided in the back of his home. He also loved to watch TV, and to cook his favorite meal, bean soup with neck bones.

Theoples leaves behind a host of loved ones to cherish and nurture their fond memories of him, including his wife, Erma Baines, six children including Theoples C. Baines of Dover, Gregory Baines of Baltimore, Tanja Baines-Whaley of Dover, Curtis Baines of Wilmington, Bessie Parker of Texas, and Latoya Caldwell of Dover. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law Selina Baines, and two sons-in-law, Larry Parker and Norman Whaley; four sisters-in-law, Junita Baines, Margaret Baines, Mable Rogers, and Ina Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Richard Parker. Theoples is also remembered by his sisters, Mary Weeks of Virginia, and Shirley Slaughter of New York, in addition to 23 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren whom he loved with all his grand and great heart most dearly. Theoples had one grandchild whom he cherished with the whole of his heart, Adrian Cain. He also leaves behind a special cousin, Linwood Bailey, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. He will be dearly missed by all.

Services for Theoples were held Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Pippin Funeral Home, followed with an internment at Sharon Hills Cemetery.

LaFace Sr., Kenneth A.

Kenneth A. LaFace Sr., 62, of Clayton, died on Friday June 6 at his home.

He was born in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Anthony and Edna LaFace.

Mr. LaFace had been employed as a truck driver for many years, having formerly worked for his father's trucking firm, LaFace Express, of Pittsburgh. He later started his own trucking company, Kenco, in Pittsburgh. For the last five years he

worked for Robbins Motor Transportation, of Philadelphia.

He enjoyed old cars and riding horses.

He is survived by a daughter, Kimberly LaFace, of Clayton; a son Kenneth LaFace Jr., of Elkton, Md.; two brothers and their wives, David and Barbara LaFace, and Raymond and Diane LaFace, all of Pittsburgh; a granddaughter, Morgan Civita, of Clayton; and his former wife, Kay LaFace, of Clayton.

Services will be held 1:00 PM Monday June 9 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at Noon.

Interment will be in Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be sent to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, De. 19901.

Savio T. "Sam" LaGuardia

Of Dover, Delaware, formerly of Milford, passed away Sunday, July 06, 2008 at Westminster Village Health Care Center in Dover. He was 92.

Mr. LaGuardia was born on June 12, 1916 in New York City, New York, son of the late Lawrence and Clara (Arena) LaGuardia.

He was the Manager of the Shawnee Country Club in Milford for three years, leaving to accept a position as supervisor with the Sussex County Water Department which he held for the next eight years. In 1983 Mr. LaGuardia was employed as a sales representative for Water-Pro at their Milford location and remained there until he retired in 1993.

Mr. LaGuardia was a 25 year member of the Shawnee Country Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann LaGuardia in 1997 and a daughter, Joyce C. Tompkins.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Susan LaGuardia of West Friendship, MD; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Mike McCabe of Wyoming, DE; a brother and sister-in-law, Edmond R. and Madelyn LaGuardia of Dover, DE, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Services and burial will be held privately.

Arrangements handled by Rogers Funeral Home, Milford.

Lacey, Roland James

Roland James Lacey, age 72, passed away on July 15, 2007 at ManorCare, Pike Creek. Mr. Lacey worked 42 years for the DuPont Company as a project engineer, retiring in 1993. Mr. Lacey served our country in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge #1 A.F. & A.M. Roland enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, pets and traveling to Atlantic City.

Roland is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty C. Lacey; two daughters, Debra E. Degnan and her husband David and Kimberly A. Lacey.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2007 in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a service in celebration of Roland's life at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of ManorCare, Pike Creek for their support through these difficult days. Alice Y. Labeyrie

Age 82, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Friday, October 13, 2006 surrounded by her family.

Born in Tunis, Tunisia, Mrs. Labeyrie was the daughter of the late Katchig and Beatrice Minassian. She moved from Tunisia to France and then to the United States in 1961. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for 20 years, retiring from the Clara Burke Nursing Home in Plymouth Meeting, PA. She was a member of MidCounty Senior Center. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jean G. P. Labeyrie, and her brother, Andre Minassian.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Paule Ralph of Nashua, NH, Nicole Probst of Wilmington, DE, Jacqueline Bofinger of Downingtown, PA; and her son, Gerard Labeyrie of Seaford, DE. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; her brother, Serge Minassian of New Hope, PA; and her sister, Jacqueline Kamian of Aptos, CA.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday morning between 10 and 11 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc., 111 W. 11th St., Suite 3, Wilmington, DE 19801 or to MidCounty Senior Center, 2 First Regiment Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808-2144.
