Lafferty, Jr., William J. "Bill"

William J. "Bill" Lafferty, Jr. of Townsend, Delaware, passed away Thursday May 31, 2007 in Capitol Health Care, Dover, Delaware.

He was 84.

Mr. Lafferty was born October 14, 1922 in Dover, the son of the late William J. and Jeannette Bennett Lafferty.

Mr. Lafferty worked as a postal carrier for the Dover Post Office for 32 years before retirement.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Lafferty enjoyed motorcycles, tractor shows and reading.

He was also a licensed pilot.

Mr. Lafferty was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).

He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Fouracre Lafferty; a son, William J. Lafferty III of Wilmington, Delaware; two step-sons, Allen Willey of Troy, Michigan and Steven Willey of New Orleans, Louisiana; two step-daughters, Catherine "Kay" Rowe of St. Croix, Virgin Islands and Melissa Schench of La Place, Louisiana; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Saturday June 16, 2007 at 11AM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be Tuesday June 19, 2007 at 11AM in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Bear, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 330 Smyrna, DE 19977 or to the American Cancer Society 92 Reads Way Suite 205 New Castle, DE 19720.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors, Inc., 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Julia (Macey) Lagowski

Julia Lagowski (nee Macey) age 84 of New Castle died peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2005 after a short illness. She was born Dec. 7, 1920 in Wilmington, daughter of the late John & Martha Macey. She was married to Joseph S. Lagowski for 54 years until his death in 1993. They were original members of Our Lady of Fatima parish. Her avocation was as homemaker par excellence.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph J. and his wife Gail A. of Spring, TX and Kenneth J. and his wife Mary of New Castle with whom she lived the past 5 years; 5 grandchildren, Kevin, Shannon, Jason, Matthew & Lindsay and 2 great-grandsons, Damian and Stefan.

She is also survived by a sister, Anne Macey, of Wilmington.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 15, 2005 from 9 to 10 AM in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 801 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720 at 10:30. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Patio of All Saints Cemetery's Garden of the Resurrection Crypt.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Our Lady of Fatima Outreach.

Janet R. Lafferty

Age 57, of Landenberg, PA, passed away at her home on Sunday, February 7, 2010.

Born in Wilmington, Janet was the daughter of the late Frank and Arlene Lafferty. She was a 1970 graduate of Kennett High School and worked at the Delaware Trust Company and The Bank of New York before becoming a caregiver for her parents and then her grandson. She loved traveling and going to the beach. She was a former member of St. Patrick's Church in Kennett Square.

In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her brothers, Kevin, Donald, Frank, Jr. and her former spouse, Skip Whitmarsh.

She will be dearly missed by her sons, Dennis W. Reagan, Jr. and his wife, Vivian of Landenberg, PA and Kevin C. Reagan of Kennett Square; three grandchildren, Amanda, Megan and Brady; her brother, Mark Lafferty and his wife, Susan of Hockessin; and her fiancé, Phillip Sharp.

Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, February 12th at 11 AM at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM.

Lafferty, Zachariah Michael

Zachariah Michael Lafferty, premature son of Janna and Michael William Lafferty of Rehobeth, DE, was born on November 9, 2001 and died on November 10, 2001 at Christiana Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by 3 sisters, Christina, Desi, and Amanda Harper; two grandmothers, Sharon Bendler and Joyce Lafferty; and a great grandfather Harvey Berry, all of Rehobeth; and 2 great grandmothers, Glenna Lauck of Rehobeth and Virginia Harper of Bear, DE.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 14, 2001 at Newark Cemetery.

ALBERT L. LADD

Age 83 of Ladd’s Lane, Lincoln, DE, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at his home.

Mr. Ladd was employed with Tingley-Reliance Rubber Corp. from 1936 to 1939 and then worked as a Control Rigger for Eastern Aircraft Division at their plant in Linden, NJ where he was promoted to Airplane Inspector before leaving in 1943. Mr. Ladd worked various other jobs retiring in 1995 after 8 years as an Electrician with Wm C. Taylor & Sons Electrical Contractor in Milford, DE. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. serving from 1943 to 1945.

Mr. Ladd was a life member of the Blue Hen VFW Post #6483, Milford and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #2316, Milford.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Ladd, in 1976.

Mr. Ladd is survived by a son, Harold E. Ladd of Lincoln, DE, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Friends may call Sunday evening, January 21, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Blue Hen VFW Post #6483, 77 Veterans Circle, Milford, DE, 19963.

Lahman Sr., Lennon "Bobby"

Lennon R. "Bobby" Lahman Sr., of Harrington, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at home, he was 70. Mr. Lahman Sr. was born in Preston, MD to the late Elrich and Magnolia Lahman.

Mr. Lahman Sr. served his country proudly in the United States Army. For over thirty years, he was the groundskeeper for the University of Delaware. He also farmed alongside his brother-in-law for 17 years.

Mr. Lahman was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his younger days he enjoyed riding motorcycles. Mr. Lahman was also an avid gardener. He always grew enough vegetables to supply the neighborhood and have enough to can. Then throughout the year, he enjoyed cooking meals from the vegetables that he canned.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years Lina Lahman of Harrington; sons, Thomas Sullivan of Marshall, VA, Lennon R. Lahman Jr. of Mastic Beach, NY, Robert Lahman of Newark, DE, John Sullivan of Greenwood, DE, William Sullivan of Bealeton, VA; daughters, Patricia Lahman of Newark, DE, Anna Marie Sullivan of Mannassas, Virginia; brothers, Donald Lahman of Jacksonville, FL, Merrill Lahman of Maryland, Douglas Lahman of Harrington, Linwood Lahman of Wilmington; sisters, Catherine Corkell of Denton, MD, Eleanor Rogers of Smyrna, DE; 12 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, April 5, 2004, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, at 11:30 AM, with the Reverend Ken Figgs officiating. A visitation will be one hour before the service (10:30 - 11:30). Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro at 1:00PM.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington, DE.

Laggner, Betty J.

Betty J. Laggner, of Hockessin, formerly of Smyrna, passed away on Friday January 29, 2010 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 86.

She was born in Laurel, DE, the daughter of the late Cecil and Florence Marie Riggin.

She was a 1944 graduate of Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing, Philadelphia. Mrs. Laggner was the registered nurse for her husband's medical practice in Smyrna for 36 years.

She was the past president of the Auxiliary of the Medical Society of Delaware. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards with her bridge club, playing Mahjong, and doing volunteer work.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Harold J. Laggner; two sons, Brooke (Holly) Laggner, of Longwood, FL; and David (Sandy) Laggner, of Wilmington; a daughter, Rosanne (Leigh) Cook, of Greenville; and five grandchildren, W. Brooke Laggner, Robin Cook, Megan Cook, Brandon Laggner, and Ryan Laggner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 AM Thursday February 4 at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Rd., Wilmington, DE, where friends may call one hour prior to Mass.

Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, PO Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.
