James J. Laurie, Sr.

Age 80, of New Castle, DE, formerly of Claymont, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, James was the son of the late William and Margaret (Lenox) Laurie. He was a graduate of North Catholic High School and attended Temple and Rutgers Universities. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a dispatcher for Lehane Bus Company at the Middletown yard. Prior to Lehane's, he worked for United Engineers in Pennsylvania and Peter Kiewit & Sons in Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his six children, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, all of Florida; Joan Rossell and her children.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 29th at 10 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 5th and Harmony Streets, New Castle. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Ruggiero, Anthony F.

Navy

Anthony F. Ruggiero, 94 of Hockessin passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 surrounded by his family.

Tony was born in Montchanin, DE on August 5, 1916, the son of the late Rose and Jeremiah Ruggiero. A lifelong Wilmington resident, Tony graduated from Salesianum School in 1934 and owned and operated businesses in the area until his retirement in 1985. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country as an instructor during World War II.

Following his retirement, he became an avid golfer and traveler. His wife, Margaret Ficca Ruggiero passed in 1999.

Tony is survived by his daughter Connie Williams and her husband, David and his son James and his wife, Jane all of West Chester, PA; his four grandsons and five great-granddaughters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin. Friends may call at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM. There will be no morning calling hours. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, De 19808.

Christopher, Charles Mason

Charles Mason Christopher, of Dover, DE, passed away Sunday January 23, 2011 at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover. He was 100.

Mr. Christopher was born January 31, 1910 in Clayton, DE, the son of the late Charles Ledman and Lida Mason Christopher.

In 1975, he retired from Masten's Lumber Company in Clayton as a truck driver. He was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church, Dover.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Edith G. Christopher in 2006; his sister Leora (Loretta) Burnett in 2003; and his grandson Christopher McCann in 1993.

He is survived by his two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet C. and John D. Poore, of Smyrna; and Joyce C. McCann, of Dover; a grandson J. Patrick McCann Jr., of Dover; a granddaughter, Tamara L. and her husband Anas Ben Addi, of Dover; three great-grandchildren, Madison L. McCann, of Dover; Mason Christopher McCann, of Maryland; and Noor Ramzey Ben Addi, of Dover; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Kinsey, of New Castle, DE, and Sarah Garrett, of Dover; a niece, Doris Mitchell, of Dover; and many of his wife's nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 12:30 PM Monday January 31, 2011 at Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1564 South State St. Extended, Dover, DE, where friends may call at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1564, South State St. Extended, Dover, DE 19901.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.

Hall, Kricket D.

Kricket D. Hall, 49, of Lewes passed away on January 25, 2011 at Harbor Health Care Nursing home from a long illness.

She was born on March 27, 1961 in Dover, Delaware, daughter of the late Helena V. and Richard M. Hall, Sr. of Hartly, Delaware.

Kricket graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1979. She worked at Lady Hess Womens Apparel, Leggetts Department Store, Superfresh and her last place of employment before her illness was AC Moore in Dover.

She lived in Felton before having to move to Harbor Health Care in Lewes.

Kricket enjoyed being with her family and friends, especially her dear friend, Lori Singleton. She enjoyed going to yard sales and loved animals.

She is survived by three sisters and one brother; Sandra L. and husband James A. Brown, Sr. of Lewes, Richard M. Hall, Jr. of Camden, Robin K. and husband Gilbert A. Chandler of Lewes, Vickie L. and husband Michael J. Malinasky of Millsboro, nephews, nieces and great nephews and great nieces James A. Brown, Jr., G. Craig Chandler and companion Korynne Karlau, Rebecca L. Palicka, Regina D. Wood and husband R. Douglas Wood, Tammy L. DeJesus and husband Victor D. DeJesus, Amanda Szelestei, Shelbi H. Brown, Tayler H. Malinasky, Hannah DeJesus, Robert D. Wood II, Richard J. Palicka, and long time friend Doris Bean.

Visitation will be 4-6 pm Sunday, January 30, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Service will be 11 am Monday, January 31 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 28467 DuPont Blvd., Suite 6, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Wroten, Patricia

HARRINGTON — Patricia A. Wroten, of Harrington, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at the Milford Hospice Center, surrounded by her family. She was 70.

Mrs. Wroten was a telephone operator for Bell telephone for many years. After retirement, she worked for Disney World during the winter months while staying in her winter home.

In her spare time, she enjoyed ceramics, making and collecting porcelain dolls, and collecting Disney memorabilia. She enjoyed spending her time at the beach in the summer and Florida in the winter. She loved to window shop and enjoyed a good sale.

She will be remembered as a quiet soft spoken woman who had a strong will. Her family was her life, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be forever missed.

Mrs. Wroten was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and the Harrington High Alumni.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Bonniwell of Harrington; and brother, Raymond "Baby Ray" Bonniwell.

In addition to mother, Frances Bonniwell, she is survived by her loving husband, Lewis K. Wroten of Harrington; sons and daughter-inlaw, Randy and Robin Wroten of Greenwood, and Steven Wroten of Laurel; brothers, Robert Bonniwell and wife Sue of Dover, and Larry Bonniwell and wife Pat of Seaford; sisters, Rose Bishop of Harrington, Linda McBride and husband Kevin of New Bern, N.C., and Barbara Cox and husband Dennis of Harrington; and four grandchildren, Scott, Brittany, Laurie Beth and Taylor.

Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Annette Boone

Age 91, formerly of Astoria New York, passed away peacefully in Christiana Hospital on Thursday January 27, 2011 surrounded by her family.

Annette was born in New York on May 21, 1919 to Alexander and Anna Tarasowits. She was preceded in death by her daughter Laura Cobuccio.

She is survived by her loving son, Tom Boone and his wife, Gloria.

She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Melissa Smith and husband Tim, Suzanne Keblen and husband Sean, Jeanine Boone and fiancé Jason, Charlie Beverage, Jamie Beverage and wife Mary, Jennifer, Oliver Cobuccio and wife Marie, and Keith Irvin. She is also survived by 14 Great- grandchildren. She will also be missed by her extended family and dear friends. Special thanks to Terry and Patricia

Funeral services will be at Mealy Funeral home on Limestone Road on Tuesday, February 1st at 12 pm. Services at 1 pm, Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery Lancaster Pike Wilmington De.

Whaley, Granville D.

Granville D. Whaley, age 97, of Laurel, Delaware passed away on March 2, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.

He was born in Laurel Delaware a son of the late William K. and Martha Sadler Whaley.

Granville was a lifelong retired farmer working for the George Collins Farm and the William Hopkins Farm.

Mr. Whaley is survived by his sons, Robert D. Whaley and wife Kay of Laurel and Burton Whaley and wife Carrie of Delmar. His daughter, Ruth Lynch and husband Eugene of Portsville, DE. A sister Alberta Mitchell of Laurel. Grandchildren: Teresa (Whaley) Abbott, Dawn (Whaley) Hibbs ( Donald), Julie (Whaley) Taylor, Wade Whaley ( Lisa), Wendy (Whaley) Duncan ( Don), Joe Lynch ( Janet), Faith Lynch, Steve Slaughter, Stacie Slaughter and Peggy Whaley Randolph many nieces, nephews & great grandchildren & faithful companion cat - Jake.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Slaughter. He is also preceded in death by his first wife Eva A. Whaley and Icie H. Whaley.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home 700 West Street Laurel, DE 19956 on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 am, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Barry Devine will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
