David G. R. Short

Age 70, of Landenberg, PA died suddenly at home on January 28, 2011.

He was born in Kapaau, HI, the son of Walter and Lena Short. He attended school in the Kohala public school system and graduated from Kohala High School, where his parents were respected teachers, in 1958. He was also a member of Kalahikiola Congregational Church.

Dr. Short received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, where he was a member of Triangle Fraternity (for engineering, architecture, and the sciences). He served as an officer in the United States Army at Fort McClellan, AL in 1962-1964 during the time of the integration of the University of Alabama.

Upon graduation, he joined the DuPont Company with assignments at Spruance VA, Washington Works WV, Corpus Christi TX, Chambers Works NJ, and Wilmington DE. He retired from DuPont Engineering in 2002 with 37 years of service. He then worked as a professor at the University of Delaware Chemical Engineering Department until his death. He was a Professional Engineer and a member of the American Society of Chemical Engineers.

He was involved with the Delaware Youth Soccer Association for over 20 years, serving as both a coach and the Delaware State Registrar. Other interests include astronomy, high dynamic range photography, woodworking, computers, and travel.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 39 years, Carolyn J. Short; parents Walter and Lena Short; and brother John P. Short. He is survived by his current wife Jeanne C. Haley; son Jeffrey M. D. Short and wife Ilana of Cumming, GA; daughter Jennifer S. Short of Magnolia, DE; brother Charles B. Short and wife Charlotte of Kenosha, WI; and grandson David Reed Short.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE on Thursday, February 3. Visitation will be 12 noon to 1 pm with the memorial service beginning at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713 and Kalahikiola Congregational Church, PO Box 159, Kapaau, HI 96755.

Juris V. Stagitis

"George"

Age 56, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at Compassionate Care Hospice Center at St. Francis Hospital on Thursday, January 20, 2011 surrounded by his family.

Born on January 27, 1954 in Wilmington, DE, George was the son of Biruta (Mikus) and Arturs Stagitis. He was a graduate of Dickinson High School. He worked as contractor and co-owner of Baltic Construction Company of Wilmington for over 30 years. He was an avid Phillies fan, a bowler in the Silview Men's League at Pleasant Hill Lanes and a golfer and former member of the DelCastle Men's Golf Association. George also played softball for Baltic Construction for over 20 years.

He is survived by his parents, Biruta and Arturs Stagitis of Wilmington; his brothers, Andy Stagitis and his wife, Susan and John Stagitis and his wife, Donna; and his sister, Ilze Purcell and her husband, Carl, all of Wilmington. Also surviving are 5 nieces and nephews, Jessica and her husband, John Weaver, Kevin, Jennifer, Kimberly and Matthew.

A memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Annette Boone

Age 91, formerly of Astoria New York, passed away peacefully in Christiana Hospital on Thursday January 27, 2011 surrounded by her family.

Annette was born in New York on May 21, 1919 to Alexander and Anna Tarasowits. She was preceded in death by her daughter Laura Cobuccio.

She is survived by her loving son, Tom Boone and his wife, Gloria.

She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Melissa Smith and husband Tim, Suzanne Keblen and husband Sean, Jeanine Boone and fiancé Jason, Charlie Beverage, Jamie Beverage and wife Mary, Jennifer, Oliver Cobuccio and wife Marie, and Keith Irvin. She is also survived by 14 Great- grandchildren. She will also be missed by her extended family and dear friends. Special thanks to Terry and Patricia

Funeral services will be at Mealy Funeral home on Limestone Road on Tuesday, February 1st at 12 pm. Services at 1 pm, Interment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery Lancaster Pike Wilmington De.

Rita Ann Rosaio

On January 26, 2011, after a courageous two and a half year battle with a rare form of lymphoma and just ten days short of her 79th birthday, Rita passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her children.

Rita was born and raised in the Little Italy neighborhood of Wilmington to Pasquale and Matilda Faenza. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1949. After marrying the love of her life, Frank J. Rosaio, Jr. in 1951, she moved to Ebright Road where she lived until her passing. Her husband Frank passed away in 1961.

Rita was the secretary to the past seven principals during her 42 year career at Salesianum School. Her devotion to the school brought her the recognition of an honorary graduate. The Salesianum community and the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales were her second family.

She and her husband were founding members of St. Mary Magdalen Church. She was actively involved with the parish and school for many years and remained a parish member until her passing.

Nothing mattered more to Rita than her family. That love of family was passed on to each of her children. As the family matriarch, her selfless and loving presence will be dearly missed by all.

As a testament to her devotion to her family, she was recognized as Delaware's "Mother of the Year" in 2005 by American Mothers, Inc.

She is survived by her seven children:

Frank P. Rosaio and wife Nancy of Wilmington, DE

Donna Rosaio Holowka and husband Michael of Middletown, DE

Denise Rosaio and husband Steven Graham of Elkton, MD

Twenty two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Sister, Gloria Malatesta, sisters-in-law, Anne Muzio and Mary Perrone.

And her Aunt Lena Anselme.

Many nieces, nephews and her two special cousins, Loretta Berl and Elaine Weinkowitz and many dear friends.

Friends and family may call Sunday, January 30 from 2 pm to 6 pm at Centenary Hall, Salesianum School, 18th and N. Broom Streets, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 31, at 10:00 am, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Streets, Wilmington. A private entombment will follow at St. Joseph-on-the-Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Rita A. Rosaio Scholarship Fund, c/o Salesianum School, 1801 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802.

Deborah M. Hopkins

Age 51, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 23, 2011 surrounded by her family.

Born in Wilmington, Deborah was the daughter of the late Charles F. and M. Lucille (Davis) West. She was a graduate of St. Mark's High School and attended Goldey Beacom College. She worked as a project coordinator at Ray Angelini, Inc. for over six years. Previously, she worked for Wilmington Sheet Metal for 10 years.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 22 years, Timothy P. Hopkins; her son, Tim Hopkins, Jr.; her daughter, Amy Hopkins; her sister, Margie West-Bristow of Newark; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles T. and Lori West of Elkton, MD and Michael and Kristen West of Bear, DE; her in-laws, Margaret and Jim Hopkins; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins; along with her beloved dog, Buster.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 28th at 11 AM at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark where friends are invited to visitation on Thursday evening between 6 and 8 PM. Interment will follow Mass at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Debbie Hopkins Children Education Fund, c/o Wilmington Trust, 550 Suburban Drive, Newark, DE 19711 or to any Wilmington Trust branch.

Brown, Edna May

Edna May Brown, aged 94, beloved Sister of G. Ann Hill and Aunt of Amy E. Hill and Colin D. Bater, Sister-in-law of Ellen Quinn, Aunt of Ellen May, Patrick and Jennifer Quinn, died peacefully early Friday morning January 7, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Brown and brother, James. L. Quinn.

"Eddie" was active in the Navy during WWII as a Wave, her service was commemorated in the Smithsonian Institute.

She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, was a longtime resident of New Brighton, PA, and a member of Holy Family Parish.

She spent her last years residing in Arden, DE, to be near her family.

Eddie will be buried beside her husband in North Side Catholic Cemetery, a Memorial Service will be held at Holy Family Parish on Friday, May 6 at 10:00 AM followed by a luncheon for family members and friends.
