Marian C. Bednarek

Age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on her birthday, Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Foulk Manor South.

Born in Coatesville, PA, Marian was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Elizabeth (Scharek) Bednarek, her brother, John, and her sister Dorothy Bonk. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years for Star Color Press and McHugh Electric until her retirement. She was a member of St. Hedwig's Church.

Marian is survived by her sister, Alma Leonard of Florida; and four nephews, Bob and Jack Pierce and Bernard and John Bonk.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 18th at 10 AM at St. Hedwig's Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets, Wilmington. There will be no calling hours and interment will be private.

R. Johan Sanders (nee Ludwig)

R. Johan Sanders, age 69, departed this life on April 8, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Johan was preceded in death by her mother and father, Eleanor and James Ludwig, her step-mother Gertrude Majewski, her sister, Betty Garecht and her brother, John Ludwig.

Johan was a 1958 graduate of Wilmington High School. She was employed by Angelo Falasca, Esq., from 1975 until 1997. She was then employed by the Delaware Public Defender's Office, until falling ill in 2007.

Everything about Johan will be missed, but nothing will be forgotten. Although she has moved on, we will feel her love and she will remain in our hearts every day.

Johan is survived by the love of her life, her adoring and wonderful husband of more than 49 years, Donald L. Sanders. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Jo and Steven Yearick; her son, Donald L. Sanders, II; her granddaughter and her partner, Brandi Lee Flanagan and Brian J Kozlowski; grandsons, Donald W. Sanders and Kyle Sanders; and great-grandson, Brian J. Kozlowski Jr. She is also survived by her brother, James F. Ludwig; her special sisters-in-law, Iona Boyer and Judi Ludwig; her wonderful nieces, Barbara Fleetwood, Robin Hoffman and Debbie Reed; her very loving cousin, Josephine LaRock; and many other beloved relatives and very dear friends.

Mass will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 13th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Ninth & DuPont Streets, Wilmington, DE.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Gregory Masters, his assistant Mary, and their caring staff who took such wonderful care of our mother.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Research Center.

Jean Delores Cordrey Miller

Age 86, of Wilmington, DE, died July 2, 2010 at Christiana Hospital. She was the wife of Richard B. Miller who predeceased her in 1986. She is survived by three sons, one daughter and eight grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Lloyd "George" Hoilman

Age 79, of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 surrounded by family and his fiancée.

Born in Bakersville, NC, George was the son of the late Fred and Ellie Mae Hoilman. He retired from Hoilman's Used Cars. Previously, he worked in delivery at Brandywine Auto Parts. His wife, Rutha (Wyatt) Hoilman, predeceased him.

He will be missed by his children, Wilma Jean Burgess of Spring Hill Florida, Betty Mae Mangini of Newark, DE, Rosemarie Manzi of Smyrna, DE, Roger Dale Hoilman of Avondale, PA and George Lee Hoilman of Spring Hill Florida; 8 grandchildren, Teresa, Krystina, Dustin, Melissa, Gina, Ren, Dillon and Carly; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Hoilman of North Carolina, Oscar Hoilman of North Carolina; a sister, Kate Schoran of Maryland; his fiancée Margaret Moore of New Castle, DE and numerous friends.

A Memorial Luncheon will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at the Elsmere Fire Hall in Elsmere Delaware from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. Friends and relatives are welcome to come and pay their respects.

Karl A. Schneider

Age 78, of Newark, DE, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Monday, December 27, 2010.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Karl was the son of the Arthur and Greta (Kellner) Schneider. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a baker for Steinley's and Sweeney's before he worked for Air Products as a truck driver for 21 years before his retirement in 1994. A member of the NRA, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. His hobbies included a knife making business.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Florence C. (Frazer) Schneider; his daughter, Carol A. Krammes of Elkton, MD; his son, Karl "Bill" Schneider of Newark, DE; two grandchildren, Danielle and Kyle Krammes; a great grandson, Gavin Krammes; a brother, Gottlieb R. Schneider of Mountain Home, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8th at 11 AM at Free Will Baptist Church, 4519 DuPont Parkway, Townsend, DE where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association, 1021 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.

Louise A. (Rich) Pitrizzi

Louise A. Pitrizzi, age 79, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2010.

The daughter of Dominick and Ida (Vitelli) Rich, Louise was a lifelong resident of Wilmington. She was a 1949 graduate of P.S. DuPont High School, and worked in the payroll department of the Electric Hose & Rubber Company in Wilmington, until she left to start her family.

Louise was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and a caring and giving friend to many. Her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family. She also enjoyed regular lunch dates with her high school friends, affectionately known as "The 49-ers". She loved to cook for her family and friends, and enjoyed watching her daily soaps (which she called her "stories") and Wheel of Fortune.

Louise is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Paul; their daughters: Diane Graham (& husband Lew) of Newark, DE, Linda Smith (& husband Roger) of Elmer, NJ and Jeanie Blair (& husband Sam) of Newark, DE; her sisters: Lorraine Talmo (& husband Franny) and Mary Ann Morash (& husband Anthony), both of Wilmington; her brothers: Joseph Rich and Alfred Rich, both of Wilmington; her grandchildren: Austin Smith of Elmer, NJ and Renee Graham Epperson (& husband Chuck) of Newark; and great-grandchildren: Tyler and Nicole Epperson; and her many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Louise was predeceased by her brothers: Dominick Rich, Jr. and John Rich.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 26th at 11 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 9 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Paul J. DiNetta

Age 83, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilmington, Paul was the son of the late Luigi and Pauline (Sena) DiNetta. He attended P.S. DuPont High School. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corps in Guam during World War II. Prior to becoming an electrician, he worked for Penn Railroad. As an electrician, he worked for City Electric and Wyman Electric before his retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. Matthew's Church where he served as an usher, and VFW Atterbury Post. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary DiNetta.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Pauline C. (Albertini) DiNetta; his daughter Paula A. DiNetta and her fiancé, James Wilton of Wilmington; his sons and daughters-in-law, Louis C. and Vicky of Middletown, DE and Thomas P. and Cindy of Bear, DE; three grandchildren, Allegra, Adam and Allyssa; and a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Art Cottrell of Wilmington.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday, March 28th between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Simmons, Michael

Simmons, Michael age 86 of Wilmington, DE and New Port Richey, FL died Saturday June 19, 2010 at Bay Front Medical Center in St. Petersburg, FL.

He was born in Austin, PA to Dimitri and Maria (Fran) Simmons.

He received his B.S. from Villanova, Millersville University and his M.Ed. from University of Delaware.

He was an educator for many years starting as a 6th grade teacher at Krebs Elementary from '52 to '55, and taught math at Krebs Jr. High from '55 to 60.

He then served as Principal at Krebs Jr. High from '60 to '78. Later he served as Supervisor of Secondary Education from '78 to '81 and then taught 6th grade at Baltz Elementary from '81 to '85.

He served on such service organizations as the Board of Directors - D.S.E.A., Board of Directors - New Castle County Credit Union and State Supervisory Council - N.E.A., N.A.S.S.P.

Mr. Simmons served his country during W.W.II in the Naval Air Corp -U.S. Navy and held the rank of Ensign.

He served as a Naval Aviator and Asst. Navigation Officer VB14 Alameda, CA.

He is survived by his wife Jane Simmons, his children Michael Simmons, Paul Simmons, Stuart Simmons, Patricia Carr, Patrick Simmons, Amy Francisconi. Also his grandchildren Ilia Moore-Simmons, Mary Ellen Moore-Simmons, James Carr, Lauren Carr, Carly Simmons, Patrick M. Simmons and Austin Francisconi, his sister Arlene Lerch, several nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws and his beloved dog Maddy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 25th at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington.

Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, following Mass on Friday.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Mary of the Assumption Church at the address above.

Phyllis S. Lofink

Age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 20, 2010 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Wilmington, Ms. Lofink was the daughter of the late Phillip J. and Joanna (McDermott) Lofink. She worked as a teacher for Warner Junior High School for 31 years before her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Lofink and her sister, Jane Lofink.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James A. and Viola Lofink, of Wilmington; her nephew, Vincent Lofink; and her niece Jennie Jones. She was also survived by a great niece and five great nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 23rd at 11 AM at Christ Our King Church, 28th and Madison Streets, Wilmington where friends and family are invited to visitation after 10 AM.

Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
