George A. Adams, Jr.

Age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, November 19, 2010 at Manor Care Health Services on Foulk Road.

Born in Wilmington, George was the son of the late George A. and Cecilia (McMonigle) Adams. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. He worked as a sheet metal worker and later as a custodian for Claymont School. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary T. McClafferty and his brother, John Q. Adams.

He is survived by his son, George Adams of New Jersey; his granddaughter; and his brother-in-law and caregiver for the past 15 years, William J. McClafferty III of Wilmington.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 24th at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, 703 North Broom Street, Wilmington where friends are invited to visitation after 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Ann's Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.

William C. Philips II

Born in Wilmington, Delaware on August 2, 1918, was a descendant of the early Quakers and Swedes of this area and son of Edward Mendinhall Philips and Bertha Cranston Philips. He was a graduate of Wilmington Friends School and attended Swarthmore College.

During World War II, he served as a Seaman 3rd Class in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and taught ship construction and blueprint reading at the Dravo Shipyards; later he served in the US Army during the occupation of Germany as a Staff Sergeant. He was retired from the DuPont Company. Although he spent most of his life in Wilmington, his most recent home was in Dover, DE. He was a long time member of Greenbank Mill Associates and Wilmington Friends Meeting.

He is the widower of Frances Murphy Philips and father of the late Sharon P. Jarenski. His dear friend and companion, Edith Howarth, passed away three years ago. He is survived by his children, Diane P. Rector of Newark, William C. Philips III of Dover, Deborah L. Philips of Wilmington and Carol A. Stoyack of Glenmoore, PA, and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held on Friday morning at 10 AM at Wilmington Friends Meeting House at 4th and West Streets. Burial will follow at Wilmington & Brandywine Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Ministry of Caring, 506 N. Church Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 or to Greenbank Mills Associates, Inc., 500 Greenbank Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 is suggested.

Mary T. Maciejeski

Age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Foulk Manor South.

Born in Wilmington, Mary was the last of 10 children. During World War II, she worked at the Wilmington shipyards. She later worked as a teller for Wilmington Trust Company for 28 years before her retirement. She was an avid gardener.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, John Maciejeski, Sr. in 2001. She will be missed by her son, John Jr. and his wife, Jackie of New Castle; her daughter, Evelyn Shaver of Houston, TX; and two grandchildren, Keith and Andrea.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, September 7th between 10 AM and 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington where funeral services will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Margaret O. Moriello

"Margie"

Age 84, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Heartland Hospice House.

Born in Nottingham, PA, Margie was the daughter of the late Bruce and Minna (Fitzgerald) Poole. She worked as an assistant manager of the cafeteria at General Motors until her retirement. She also worked part-time for years for Dr. Alfred Brown on Milltown Road.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Bruce Alfred Poole. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alfred J. Moriello; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay A. and Rose Moriello of Landenberg, PA and Gary M. and Beverly Moriello of Northbrook, IL; four grandchildren, Nicholas A. and his wife Carissa of Lincoln University, PA, Rebecca Ann of Raleigh, NC, Jessica Kay of Thorndale, PA and Joseph Anthony and his wife Carol of Park Ridge, IL; and a great granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Moriello.

The Moriello family wishes to thank Louise Miller of Companion Hearts, Pattie Sarver, Jedidah Mugo and all the caregivers from Comfort Keepers and the nursing staff from Heartland Hospice House for their special loving care.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, September 7th between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington where funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

HELEN FRANCES CLARKIN

(SYLVIA) "NANA"

Helen Clarkin, 97, formerly of Rhode Island and Wilmington, DE passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at Courtland Manor Nursing Home in Dover DE, her residence for the past four years.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, Manuel and Ellen Sylvia, her loving husband of 51 years, Francis J Clarkin, Sr. her brothers, John and George Sylvia and sister Cecilia Parker.

She leaves behind three sons, Francis (Jean) of Bel Air, MD, Robert (Ann) of Wilmington, and Peter (Sandra) of Ocean View, her grandchildren Jennifer(Tim), Scott(Jennifer), Peter(Jennifer), Shaun and Kate, and her buddies and great grandchildren Matt, Nathan, Tommy and Tyler. She is also survived by her brother Ray Sylvia, sister Mildred Baldwin, sister-in-law Lillian Sylvia, all of Rhode Island, along with many nieces and nephews.

Helen enjoyed spending time at Fenwick Island with her family during the summer and visiting her sisters and brothers in Rhode Island.

Services will be at 12:30 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington on Monday, Nov. 29th. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Courtland Manor Nursing Home, 889 S. Little Creek Rd, Dover, DE 19901. We want to thank the nurses and staff at Courtland Manor for taking such great care of Helen. She loved all of you.

Deny J. Burkel

Age 53, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Born in Detroit, MI, Deny was the son of the late Norbert August and Denise Marcella (Dewalle) Burkel. He was a member of the UAW Local 1183 and worked for Chrysler. Recently retired from Chrysler. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Gerri (Ventura) Burkel; his son, Thomas F. Burkel at home; his stepsons, Anthony R. Cario and Frank C. Cario, both at home; and his stepdaughters, Claire F. Cario of Brooklyn, NY and Madison Cario of Philadelphia, PA. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Laurie and John Kalson of Huntsville, AL and Barbara and Don Niewolak of Warren, MI; his brothers, Gary Burkel of Sebastopol, CA and Jimmy Burkel of Roseville, MI; his brother-in-law Michael J. Ventura; and many nieces and nephews, along with many friends and co-workers.

His brothers and sisters were very special to him. They loved him and he loved them as well. He was very giving and he thought about them even though they were so far away. He was a very special brother and friend and will never be forgotten.

married to Gerri for the short time they were given so much they were best friends and soul mates. He loved to crab and fish. He had a heart of gold. We will never forget the wonderful smile on his face. He enjoyed the pool and celebrating life. He became a father to Thomas Burkel on January 5, 2004. Tommy will always have a special place in all our hearts.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 7th at 11 AM at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Thomas F. Burkel Education Fund, c/o Wilmington Trust Co., 2371 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 or to any Wilmington Trust branch.

Felmey, James Paul

James Paul Felmey, 68 of Newark, DE passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Jim was born January 9, 1943 in Lewisburg, PA, the son of the late Blanche (Smith) and John Felmey. He retired in 2007 after over 40 years working for the Chrysler Corporation. Jim served his country in the U.S. Air Force and his hobbies included fishing, playing cards and rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Robert and great grandson, Aidan.

Jim will be dearly missed by his wife of 35 years, Catherine (Chandlee) Felmey; his daughter and son-in-law, Renae Chantel and Andrew Petrella; his sons, Andrew James, Matthew Thomas, Jason Patrick, James Paul, Jr. and John Palmer; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Carolyn Felmey; his sister, Joanne Nagy. Also left to cherish his memory are his 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to your favorite charity in Jim's memory.

Benecki, Raymond J.

Raymond John Benecki, 86, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2010. He served honorably in the US Army in WW II, earned his Engineering degree at Carnegie Tech, and his masters in Chemical Engineering from MIT. He and his first wife, Leona, eventually moved to Wilmington, DE and he retired from DuPont at the age of 70.

Raymond lost his first wife, Leona, mother of his children, to breast cancer at the age of 49. He was fortunate to meet and marry Claire, his loving second wife of more than 35 years. While he worked for DuPont, he travelled extensively and lived in Europe, Japan, Holland, and Northern Ireland. After he retired, he and Claire continued travelling and visited such places as China and Alaska. He was a member of the Orchid Society and an active member of the Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed driving his motor home to California and Florida twice a year.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Claire, his son Ray and daughter-in-law Joanne and their sons; Steven, Matthew, and Kevin, all of Virginia, his daughter, Theresa and son-in law, Ted, and their children, Katie, Terri Anne, Teddy, and Thomas of New Jersey. He is also survived by his sisters; Sr. Mary Anita Benecki, CSSF and Eleanor Yonko, nephew Chris, and Brenda.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 27, 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Dr. in Newark, where calling hours will begin after 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714 which is dedicated to the study and cure of pancreatic cancer.

Stirling M. Brinkman, Jr.

"Mac"

Age 54, of Middletown, DE, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, January 13, 2011.

Born in Wilmington, Mac was the son of the late Stirling M. and Nancy (Brown) Brinkman. He was a graduate of Sanford High School and Waynesburg College. He worked as an environmental consultant/ Network Administrator for ECSI for 17 years; and previously worked for W. L. Gore as an associate engineer for 12 years. Mac was a championship handgun shooter and his hobbies included piloting, woodworking and boating. He was a former member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church.

Mac played an essential part in the FDA approval of FloLan and other trial medication for Primary Pulmonary Hypertension which have significantly enhanced the understanding, knowledge, and research regarding this once thought of as "untreatable" condition

He is survived by his daughter Carolyn M. Brinkman of Middletown and her mother, Donna Adams of Elkton, MD; his cousin, Eugene Hamilton of Chestertown, MD; and his beloved dogs, Lizzy and Winston.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011.

Family and friends may call between 4pm and 8:30 pm at his family home in Middletown, DE.
