Davis, Sr., William

William Davis, Sr. 59, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.

Mr. Davis was an equipment operator for DelDot for over twenty years. He loved his cats, the NY Jets, and Saturday mornings at Delaware Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillian (Street) Davis, a sister, Barbara Davis and three brothers; Peter, Bobby, and Charles Davis.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 41 years, Catherine (Grzybowski) Davis, his son and daughter in law, William "Billy" Davis, Jr. and Jessi, of Wilmington, his sister, Patsy Brosch, two brothers, Frank and Darryl Davis, and two grandchildren, Lizzy and David.

Family and friends are invited to funeral services at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 6, at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Rds., Wilmington where calling hours will begin at 12:30. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Dr., Wilmington, DE 19805.

John Joseph "Jack" Dowling

Mr. John Joseph Dowling, age 65, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 2, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born in Richmond, VA on August 21, 1944. Growing up in Wilmington, he was a graduate of St. Ann's Elementary School and Salesianum School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Delaware and became a Certified Public Accountant. Jack served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. In 1976 he started his private accounting firm, John J. Dowling and Company in Newark, DE, which he continued for 34 years.

Jack was the son of John H. and Anne Dowling. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sharon and their 3 children, Lisa Leech and her husband Scott, Jennifer Kryukov and her husband Mikhail, and John-Paul Dowling. He is also survived by his two beloved grandchildren, Kassidy and Melanie Kryukov, as well as his sisters Carol Villermaux (Robert) and Mary Canner (Bill), brothers David, Richard, William (Sandy), Peter (Debbie), and many loving nieces and nephews.

Jack was a member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church and formerly Parish of the Resurrection. As an avid sports fan he loved to play or watch basketball, baseball, football and golf.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, 11:00 AM at Parish of the Resurrection Church, 3000 Videre Dr., Wilmington. Calling hours will be Thursday evening, 6-8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Rds. Wilmington. Interment at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jeanne Jugan Residence, Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Rd., Newark, DE 19713.

Temple, Russell

Russell E. Temple, 29, passed away on July 30, 2010 and now will be at peace with the Lord.

Russell was a strong and independent young man who loved watching movies and the Phillies.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Albert and Gloria Temple, his brother, David Temple, four sisters; Cindy Barclay, Kimberly Kramer, Shannon Crisco, and Christine Temple, six nephews and five nieces, and many loving aunts and uncles.

Family and friends are invited to funeral services on Friday, August 6, 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE., where visitation will begin after 10 AM. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Joan C. Greenwood

Of Greenville, DE, passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at home with her family. She was 79 years old.

Born in Boston, MA and raised in Manhattan, NY, Joan was the daughter of Harold and Catherine Chrisman.

Joan enjoyed bowling, ceramics, knitting and cross-stitch, and belonged to a gourmet cooking group. She was a volunteer at A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children for over 12 years and participated in a number of activities at her church, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. She found great enjoyment in the world-wide travels she made with her husband, son and friends. Her greatest joy in life was her family and supporting her grandchildren's growing interests and activities.

Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years, David Greenwood; her two sons, Steven Greenwood of Scottsdale, AZ and David Greenwood, Jr. of Halcott Center, NY; two daughters, Donna Mitchell and her husband, David of Wilmington, DE and Deborah Greenwood of Wilmington, DE; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrew Mitchell.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11 am at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2200 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Joan Greenwood Memorial Fund, c/o St. Barnabas Church at the above address or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Ste 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245.

Lyn Ann (Rivenbark) Zerbe

Born Marilyn Ann Zales in Cleveland, Ohio January 31, 1932, died August 1st, 2010. Preceding her in death were her mother and father, Helen (Gabany) and Arthur John Zales, daughter, Audrey Ann Rivenbark, and nephew, Raymond Arthur Yoxall. Graduated from Euclid Central High in 1950. National Honor Society, Class Valedictorian. Graduated from Dyke and Spencerian Colleges in Cleveland. married Thomas Allen Rivenbark in May, 1954, and had 2 children, Jeffrey Allen and Audrey Ann. Moved to Wilmington, DE in 1960. married Walter Zerbe in 1977, adopted and raised Rebecca Ann. Retired from DuPont in 1994. Active member of Hope Lutheran Church and Mary Circle. Enjoyed spending time with friends in the Poconos, gsrdening cooking, travel, and photography. She played oboe in high school and college. In the early 70's she taught herself organ, and became Hope Lutheran's organist. In the late 90's she learned to play saxophone, and joined the UD Academy of Lifelong Learning Senior Band, and enjoyed playing in concerts both locally, and twice in England. Survivors include her husband Walt, sister Barbara Yoxall, son Jeff, daughter Rebecca Ann, stepson Kurt, nieces and nephews John, Donald, Dianna and Tonya Yoxall and many grand nieces and nephews

Visitation with family will be held at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, DE on Friday, August 6, from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held At Hope Lutheran Church, 230 Christiana Road, New Castle DE 19720 on Saturday August 7, at 11:00 am where family and friends may attend a visitation after 10:00 am

Gilbert, Catherine R.

Catherine R. Gilbert, Age 88 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at her home on May 25, 2010 surrounded by her family.

Catherine was born in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of the late Mary (Grosart) and David Rankin and she graduated from the University of Delaware. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her son, Richard W. Gilbert.

Catherine is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert Harris Gilbert; her daughter, Cathy J. Gilbert of Boston, MA; her son, David R. Gilbert and his wife, Susan of Bethesda, MD; her granddaughters, Michelle, Tricia and Christine and her 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the University of Delaware Development Office, 5 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19716.

Eugene F. Gentile "Gene"

Gene F. Gentile, 73 of Wilmington, DE and West Palm Beach, FL passed away suddenly on May 19, 2010 while on a cruise in the Mediterranean with his wife Ronnie.

Gene was born in Wilmington on August 13, 1936, the son of the late Jule (Solio) and Frank Gentile. He attended St. Matthew's Elementary School and graduated from Conrad High School Gene received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corp as a Master Sergeant at the age of 25. He was a General Contractor in Wilmington for several years, founder and co-owner of The Concrete Company and later owned Blue Hen Beverages Company. After retiring to Florida in 1979, he returned to work as a General Contractor refurbishing Mizner designed homes in Palm Beach. He was a small aircraft owner/pilot and member of the QB. Gene also enjoyed spending time on his boat with his family. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and in addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Slifer, and his brothers, Frank and James "Jimmy" Gentile.

He is survived by wife of 44 years, Ronnie (Talley) Gentile; his children, Douglas Gentile, Nichole Vaughan (Steve), Denessa Williams (Rich McKenna), Gary Williams (Linda), and Jeannine Edelblut; his sister, Nadine; eleven grandchildren and three great-grand children.

He was a devoted father to all his children and a loving Pop-Pop to his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 2, at St. Matthews Church, 902 West Newport Pike, Woodcrest at 10:30 AM. Friend may call at the Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1501 Casho Mill Road, Ste. 1, Newark, DE 19711.

Spangler, William H.

William H. Spangler, Age 67, of Wilmington, DE, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lewistown, PA on September 5, 1942 to the late Dorothy M. (Shirk) Spangler and William T. Spangler. Bill retired in June 2006 from General Motors, Boxwood Road Plant, after 43 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local #435. He was a member of the Millcreek congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice E. (Wray) Spangler; his children, Brian K. Spangler of Bear and Theresa M. Spangler and her husband, Doug Hite; and Bill's mother-in-law, Arlene M. Renninger Wray of McClure, PA.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Compassionate Care Hospice and the Helen Graham Cancer Center.

The memorial service will be held at the Millcreek congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses, 1103 Milltown road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Saturday March 6th at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jehovah's Witnesses at the address above.

Pauline S. Moorehead

With joyful hearts, the family of Pauline S. Moorehead celebrate a life well lived. Pauline passed away, Sunday, August 8, 2010 surrounded by her family at the age of 79.

Pauline was a native Delawarean, born in Wilmington in November of 1930. She was the daughter of the late John M. and Julia B. Sobocinski and the devoted wife of John P. Moorehead.

Pauline was formerly employed for more than 20 years with the Wilmington Trust Company in the Securities Trades area. She was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church as a member of their Parish Council, Altar Guild, B.V.M. Sodality and Parish Outreach programs. In addition she was a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital Junior Board.

She is survived by her children, Elaine M. Wilhelm (Raymond), Julianne Moorehead, and Michael J. Moorehead, all of Wilmington; and Paul G. Moorehead (Alexandra) of Washington, D.C. She is also survived by grandchildren, Lauren, Christopher, Jack, Grace, Aidan, Patrick and Helen and great-grandchildren, Connor and Matthew. Her brother Thomas J. Sobocinski of Wilmington and sister Barbara S. Bell of Washington, D.C. also survive her.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Thursday, August 12th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on Friday, August 13th at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to St. Elizabeth's Parish Outreach, 809 S. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
