David B. Kauffman

Age 48, of Newark, DE, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Wednesday, October 13, 2010.

Born in San Francisco, CA, David was the son of Larry Kauffman and Linda (Smith) Lynn. He worked in maintenance for an area apartment complex. He was predeceased by his brother, Matthew.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 12 years, Veronica (Schubert) Kauffman; his parents, Larry Kauffman and Linda Lynn, both of California; his brothers, Larry, Jr. and Michael; and his sister, Evelyn. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Judy and Tammy; and a stepson, John.

Funeral services will be private.

Dante 'Dan' Anthony Giampietro

September 30, 1919 -September 26, 2010

Dan passed away September 26th peacefully after suffering the complications of a stroke. For the last ten years Dan lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carol Giampietro of and their children Erin Elizabeth Giampietro and Sean Michael Giampietro in Garnet Valley, PA.

Dan was born and raised in Wilmington, DE and was one of 6 children. He was the only one of his siblings to graduate Wilmington high school. Dan is a veteran who served in the military in Patton's Third Army, during WWII as an Army Ranger and received a special commendation from General Patton for his leadership during the Battle of Bulge and the Relief of Baston. He was in the service for three years. After his time in the army, he met and married Mary Cecilia Fitzpatrick in 1951. Dan owned and operated Central Electric with his brother Albert Giampietro from 1953-1985 in Wilmington, Delaware until his retirement in 1985. Dan enjoyed retirement particularly the daily companionship of his two grandchildren and their friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1997, all his siblings, and his parents. Dan's light hearted personality was a joy to those around him and his sense of humor was his trademark to all who knew him.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Jack Fitzpatrick of Wilmington, his son, Michael and his family, and his daughter, Kathleen Koenig of Bear, DE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 1st at 11 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th Street and Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

James V. Wicks

Age 81, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice House in Milford, DE.

Born in Wilmington, James was the son of the late Jesse and Mabel (Hallahan) Wicks. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. For 41 years, he worked for the DuPont Company, retiring in 1988 as an instrument technician. He was an avid University of Delaware Football fan.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years, Lois (Riddagh) Wicks; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Pam Wicks of Newark, DE; his brother, Jack Wicks of Wilmington; his sister, Maryanne Bursler of Georgetown, DE; two grandchildren, Marcia and Kimberly; and four great grandchildren, Brittani, Nathan, Elizabeth and Emily.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 19th at 11 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday evening between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will follow Mass on Tuesday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.

Margaret V. Nichols (DuHadaway) "Peggy"

Age 56, of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly at her residence on Wednesday, April 21, 2010.

Born in Wilmington, Peggy retired as an administrative secretary at Delaware Technical and Community College in the Industrial Engineering Department.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Diana Nichols and fiancee Jeremy Good and daughter Dawn Nichols (Wyatt), all of Newark; three grandchildren, Journi, Amanda and Gary; and her great granddaughter, Madison. Also survived by sister, Catherine O'Connor; brother, Mitchell DuHadaway; former husband, Terrance Nichols; and predeceased by mother, Marion E. Calleo

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 26th at 11 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation on Sunday evening between 4 and 7 PM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Sharp, Mary McLaughlin

Mary (McLaughlin) Sharp, of Claymont, DE passed away December 10, 2010 at the age of 92.

Mary was born April 18, 1918 in Wilmington. She was the daughter of the late Joseph McLaughlin and Bridget (McGee) McLaughlin, and graduated from Wilmington High School and Beacom College. She retired from Hercules, Inc. in 1981, after many years of working at its Research Center. Mary was a member of the Hercules Women's Club and the Hercules Country Club. She was a member of St. Helena's Church since 1948.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Leslie Sharp, and her sisters, Helen F. McLaughlin, Ann E. McLaughlin, Catherine J. McLaughlin and Teresa A. Scheing.

She is survived by her nephew, Frederick F. Scheing and his wife, Heidi; nieces Marybeth Farrell, Catherine DeMaio and husband Rocco, Anne Grimmett and husband Edward, and Bridget Back and husband David, and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Helena's Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 16, 2010, with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Burial at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests contributions to St. Helena's Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 or the Oblate Missions, PO Box 87, Childs, MD 21916.

Walter C. Sluder, Sr.

Age 78, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, December 11, 2010 surrounded by his family.

Born in Creston, NC, Mr. Sluder was the son of the late Edgar and Stella (Osborne) Sluder. He served his country proudly in the US Army. He worked as an HVAC supervisor at the Medical Center of Delaware for 28 years. Upon his retirement, he started his own HVAC repair business, Peak Valley, Inc. that he operated for 15 years. He was a member of the VFW.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 54 years, Nellie (Griffin) Sluder; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Greg Gantt of Wilmington; his son, Walter C., Jr. of Newark; his grandchildren, Allison, Sarah, Richard and Karissa; and his sister, Thelma Shephard of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 21st at 11:30 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where friends may attend visitation after 10:30 AM. Interment will be at 1 PM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 or to the Ronald McDonald House of Roanoke, VA, 2224 Jefferson St. SE, Roanoke, VA 24014.

Demmin, Irene

Mrs. Irene Demmi of Newark, Delaware age 84 passed away peacefully on December 13th, 2010 after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

Originally from Shenandoah, PA, Mrs. Demmi enjoyed the holidays and loved gardening. She was a loving sister to Leonard, mother to Diane, , grandmother to Ann-Marie, Lina, and Tony and beloved aunt to Nancy and several nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be Thursday at Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Drive, Newark from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Private family burial to follow 2:30 pm.

Donna Lynn Sloniewski (Wilson)

Age 53, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2010, peacefully after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Donna graduated from Concord High School in 1976 and enjoyed playing sports and excelled in field hockey and softball. She was particularly fond of summers spent with family and friends at their beach house in Bethany Beach. She began her career in nursing at Wilmington Hospital while raising her family and attending Del Tech.

Donna is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph W. Sloniewski; her daughter, Alison L.; her son, Taylor R.; her mother, Jean Brandenberger Wilson of Venice, FL; her brothers, William G. Shaw and wife, Ana of Venice, FL, Richard A. Shaw and wife, Diane, of Middletown, DE, and Leonard J. Wilson of Wilmington, DE; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard G. Wilson.

The family coveys special thanks to the many friends and co-workers from Wilmington Hospital who have been so kind and supportive during Donna's brief but determined struggle.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 16 at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 11 AM. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Davis, K. Blair

K. Blair Davis, 82, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Wilmington Hospital.

Blair was born in Kingston, NY the son of the late Florence E. (Webster) and Kenneth S. Davis and was raised in Newburgh, NY. He graduated from Colgate University where he played basketball and baseball. During the Korean Conflict, he was stationed in Japan with the U.S. Air Force. Blair worked for over 30 years in several departments in the DuPont Company, retiring from the International Department. After retiring, Mr. Davis worked as a realtor in Wilmington until 2003. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, St. Ann Church and being an avid golfer he was a member of the DuPont Country Club. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Joan Antonacci of Los Angeles, CA, his brother-in-law, Bernard McDonnell of Jupiter, FL and his sisters-in-law, Catherine McDonnell of Philadelphia, PA and Eileen Reese of Gilbert, AZ.

Blair is survived by his wife of 29 years, Patricia (McDonnell) Davis; his nephew, Blair Antonacci of Lynden, WA; his brothers-in-law, Thomas Antonacci of Los Angeles, CA and Willard Reese of Gilbert, AZ and Sister-in-law, Jane McDonnell of Chicago, IL and many other nieces and nephews throughout the country.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 11 AM at St. Ann Church, Gilpin Avenue and N. Union Street. Friends may call at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity in Blair's memory.
