Pesthy, Andrew

Andrew Pesthy died in the early morning hours of his 90th birthday on September 7, 2010 at Delaware Hospice in Milford, Delaware. He battled lung cancer for five years after smoking steadily for 72 years.

He was born September 7, 1920 in Nagykörös, Hungary to the late Dr. Pál Pesthy and Szérena Hortense Magyar Pesthy. Andrew was an accomplished horseman and served in the Hungarian Horse-drawn Artillery during World War II. He worked as a machinist on Csepel Island in Budapest until the Hungarian Revolution in October 1956. Shortly after the Russian crackdown in November, he brought his family to America to start a new life. The family was sponsored for six months in Dayton, OH, by the Shaefers. Andrew was employed by them as a diesel mechanic for their trucking firm, Victory Trucking. Settled in the Delaware Valley, he was then employed as a machinist for United, Chester County Machine Works, and he retired from DuPont Wilmington Shops. His passions were his huge garden, reading books, and watching tennis matches.

Andrew is survived by his wife of 61 years, Esther Pesthy née Lapu of Newark, DE; his daughter, Judy Bailey and her husband Walter Allen of Hartly, DE; his sons, Andrew Pesthy and his wife Mariana of Bryn Mawr, PA; John Pesthy and his wife Sarah of Newark, DE; and Paul Pesthy and his wife Anja of Aichtal, Germany. He is also survived by his grandchildren, John Fallers, Kathleen Andrews, Elek Pesthy, Logan Pesthy, Valeria Pesthy, Niklas Pesthy and step-grandchildren James Bailey and Cheryl Messick. He is also survived by his nephews, János Horvath of Calgary, Canada and Elek Szkalak of Burke, VA, his nieces Judit Pásthy of Budapest, Hungary, and Kathleen Dean of North East, MD, along with many other relatives living throughout Europe. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Károly (Kokó) Pásthy and Károly's son, Szabolcs Pásthy, both of Kecskemét, Hungary.

Services and internment were private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice or Meals on Wheels, whose employees and volunteers have shown Andrew and Esther endless patience and kindness.

Jodi F. Tanner

Age 52, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Monday, March 29, 2010 surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in Tulsa, OK, Jodi was the daughter of Louis and Gayle (Trimble) Duffer. She attended the University of Maryland and worked as a data specialist for Dental Associates of Delaware. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, crossword puzzles and crafts and loved the beach and the mountains. She enjoyed spending time with her family and laughing with friends.

A devoted wife and mother, she will be dearly missed by her husband, Roger E. Tanner; her daughter and son-in-law, Emily Jane and Jonathan Gallagher of Boyertown, PA; her son and daughter-in-law, Bryan Matthew and Chelsey Florian of Wilmington, DE; and her brother and sister-in-law, Bryan Louis and Donna Leigh Duffer of Germantown, MD. Also surviving are her niece, Cori Leigh Duffer; her nephew, Shane Colton Duffer; her paternal grandmother, Nola E. Day of Tulsa, OK; and several friends.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday, April 2nd between 12 noon and 1 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where funeral services will begin at 1 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribution to the National MS Society - Delaware Chapter, 2 Mill Road, Suite 106, Wilmington, DE 19806 or to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc., 111 W. 11th St., Suite 3, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Joseph S. Rizzo, Jr.

Age 40, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010.

Born in Wilmington, Joe was the son of Ann Marie (Corrigan) and Joseph S. Rizzo, Sr. He was a graduate of Delcastle High School and played semi-pro baseball.

Loving husband, doting father and generous soul, he will be dearly missed by his wife Marsha (McCourt) Rizzo; his children, Joseph, III and Santino at home; his parents, Ann Marie and Joseph S. Rizzo, Sr. of Wilmington; and his sisters, Kimberly and Kelly Rizzo, both of Wilmington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 18th at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest where friends are invited to visitation after 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Rizzo Children Education Fund, c/o Wilmington Trust, 4899 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 or any Wilmington Trust location.

Trembly, Sue F

Sue F. Trembly, 89, of Newark, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 10, 2010.

Sue was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was predeceased by her husband, John C. Trembly who died in 2001 and her parents, James and Jane Fagan of Wilmington.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Joanne E. Gupta of Wilmington, Elaine Daws and her husband Thomas of Newark with whom she lived, and her son John J. Trembly of Newark.

She leaves to cherish her memory, 5 grandchildren; Christopher Stape, Kelly Stape Durie and her husband Alistair, Angela Stape Figliola and her husband Joseph, Nicholas Gupta and his wife Leslie, and Sonya Gupta. Sue was additionally blessed with 3 great-grandchildren, Julianna Stape, Brayden Durie and Annabelle Figliola.

She is survived by her sisters, Mary Cloud and Eleanor Doherty, and brother Thomas Fagan and his wife Theresa all of Wilmington and her sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Harvey Mitchell of Millsboro. She is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Particular thanks and gratitude is extended by the family to Michele, Sherry, David and Barbara from Delaware Hospice for their care and kindness.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 11:00 AM at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Rd., Newark. Calling hours will be after 10AM in the church. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sue's memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810.

Shirley Jane (Cahall) Dziegielewski

Age 75, died Monday, December 13, 2010 in Ormond Beach, Florida.

Born in Wilmington, DE on December 6, 1935, Shirley was the daughter of the late Alfred and Alice (Whitelock) Cahall. She worked for 27 years at St. Francis Hospital. After retiring, she was a librarian for 5 years. When she moved to Florida, she volunteered at the Prince of Peace, FL, Church where she organized all the fund raisers and bake sales. She was awarded #1 chairman in 2009 of the CCW Prince of Peace Church. She loved shopping, reading, the beach and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 53 years, Stanley "Jingles" Dziegielewski; her sons, Mark Dziegielewski and his wife, Debbie of Elsmere and Michael Dziegielewski of New Castle. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Brooke, Michelle, Allison, Brian, Nicole, Kristen, Gabriella and Andrew; and three great grandchildren, Joey, Gavin and Makayla. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Larry (Deleski) Dziegielewski, her brothers, Thomas Truelove and Joseph Truelove, and her sister, Joan Turner.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Thursday, December 16th between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:30 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzhiemers Association, 100 S. Main St. #211, Smyrna, DE 19977.

Alice L. Thompson

Alice L. Thompson's life ended on December 13, 2010 surrounded by the love and laughter of her family.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Clive and son Bill. She is survived by her brother Bob and his wife Neva; her daughter Lynda and her husband Bill; her daughter Michelle and her son John; eight grand children - Jennifer, Monica, Jesse, Meagan, Jamie, Rachel, Ben and Jason and one great granddaughter Kayla Rose.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Joslin Diabetes Center, High Hopes Fund, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.

Theresa "Catherine" Walsh

Age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Thursday, October 14, 2010.

Born in Wilmington, Theresa was the daughter of the late Robert Andrew and Mary Jane (McKinley) Walsh. She worked as a legal secretary for many years for the DuPont Company before her retirement. She was a member of the BVM Sodality and a lifelong member of St. Ann's Church.

She is survived by the Donovan and McKinley families as well as many special friends.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday, October 18th between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 703 North Broom Street, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 10:30 AM at St. Ann's Church, Union Street and Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Ann's Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilminigton, DE 19806.

William E. Grabowski, Jr.

Age 73, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis.

Born in Wilmington, Bill was the son of the late Margaret (Barczewski) and William E. Grabowski, Sr. He was a graduate of Salesianum School and Goldey Beacom College and a member of the Army National Guard. He worked for Prudential Insurance Company for 32 years and retired from Nationwide Insurance in 2009. He was an avid golfer. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Thomas.

Bill will be dearly missed by his wife of 20 years, Maureen (Coll) Grabowski; his children and their spouses, Karen and James Thomas of Jenkintown, PA; Suzanne and Anthony Vitale of Poughquag, NY, Sarah and Michael Goudy of Kennett Square, PA; Anthony P. DiEgidio, Jr. of Fresno, CA and Catherine M. DiEgidio of Wilmington, DE. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, James, William, Summer, Sarah, Nicholas, Jacob, Dean, Ella and Finn; and his brother and sister-in-law, John and Pam Grabowski of Wilmington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 24th at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either the Delaware Kidney Fund, 1100 Lovering Avenue # 10B, Wilmington, DE 19806 or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Stephen Edgar Batzel

Age 54, of Middletown, DE, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Scranton, PA, Stephen was the son of Edgar and Virginia (Morgan) Batzel. He was a self-employed civil engineer and owner of Lazy B Construction Company. He served his country in the US Army Reserves. In his leisure time, he was a private pilot and a scuba diver.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Edgar and Virginia Batzel of Middletown; three sisters, Brenda Lee Batzel of Middletown, Cynthia E. Chalfant of Newark, and Sharon Landry of Townsend; his fiancée, Jayne Terranova of Wilmington; three nieces, three nephews and a great niece.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday, December 17th from 5 to 7 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware SPCA, PO Box 6067, Stanton, DE 19804.
