Peyton Elizabeth Ratledge, 3 weeks

HOUSTON - Peyton Elizabeth Ratledge, of Houston, died Monday, July 12, 2010. She was 3 weeks old.

Baby Peyton was born, a special gift from God, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial, a long awaited miracle for her parents, Jason L. and Jessica L. Ratledge.

She was a happy baby who was always smiling. She quickly became daddy's girl, and she knew when he arrived home. She perked up the most around her aunt Susan, because she was always taking pictures of her. Her three brothers enjoyed the role of being the big brothers and always wanted to help with her feeding, burping, or holding of her.

Although she was only on this Earth for a short while, she was a precious baby who will be sorely missed especially by her mom and dad and big brothers. Peyton left tiny footprints on the heart of everyone she met.

In addition to parents, she is survived by her brothers, Tyler L., Nathan W., and Aaron M. Ratledge, all of home; maternal grandparents, D.W. and Beth Camac of Harrington; maternal great-grandparents, Phillip and Lillian Petrone of Greenwood, and Dan and Flo Camac of Magnolia; paternal grandparents, Albert and Shirley Ratledge of Harrington; paternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Harrington of Houston; aunt, Susan Ehlers; uncles, Jason Skinner, and Eric Ratledge; and cousin, Ryder Skinner.

Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S.DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952.

George I. 'Sam' Sampson, 78

HARRINGTON - George I. "Sam" Sampson, of Harrington, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 12, 2010. He was 78.

Sam served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1973. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the DAFB. In the Air Force, he was a flight engineer and flew missions all over the world.

After retiring, he remained active and became a "Sam" of all trades. He worked for Conrail, General Foods, and Woods Lumber. He served as mayor for Frederica, and also worked with the Frederica Senior Center. He helped the Center with many projects and even served on their board for a while. He always looked after the senior citizens there and took care of their many needs. He enjoyed helping others, and his skills at building, electrical and plumbing came in handy many times. Whatever he was building or completing, he remained meticulous and saw it through to the end.

Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golf, and being outdoors. He made friends easily and everyone opened up to him without hesitation. His sincere and friendly attitude made it easy for him to make friends with anybody. He was a loving husband and family oriented, and remained the anchor of the family, a special pop-pop to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by all of us who knew him and loved him. Rest in peace pop-pop, may the angels always watch over you.

Sam was a past member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, and a member of the Harrington and Camden Moose Lodges, and the Frederica Senior Center.

In addition to his parents, Joseph and Minnie May Bell Sampson, he was preceded in death by a sister, June Dack; and a brother, James Sampson.

Survivors include, loving wife of 37 years, Barbara Sampson; daughters, Barbara J. Mauchly of Dover, Susan A. Vinciguerra of Dover, Dotty L. Marriner and her husband Wayne of Smyrna, and Patty A. Baska of Laurel Hill, Fla.; brother, Joseph Sampson of Parrish, N.Y.; grandchildren, Christopher Vinciguerra, Angela Ringgold and her husband Doug, Megan Marriner, and Kristina Lindquist; and great-grandchildren, Michael Cox Jr., Mason Ringgold, Roman Vinciguerra, Ashleigh Cox; a nephew, Jeff Dack, and a lifelong best friend, Bobby Stiers.

Services will be noon, Friday, July 16, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.

Charles H. Roland Jr., 81

HARTLY - Charles H. Roland Jr., of Hartly, formerly of Viola, left this Earth peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, Friday, Sept. 10, 2010. He was 81.

Mr. Roland retired from the Bricklayers Union Local #1. He also was a rural letter carrier for the Felton Post Office, and also worked as a security guard. For over 25 years, he also owned and operated Rolands Tree Farm, a family run business in Viola.

In his spare time, he enjoyed crossword and seek and find puzzles. In his younger days, he loved to build things. He had a unique ability as a master craftsman, to be able to look at something one time and duplicate that item or be able to fix it. He even constructed his own home including all the cabinetry. He will be remembered as a quiet, gentle, stoic, and noble person who many referred to as being honorable, dignified and nonjudgmental. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Mr. Roland was a life member of the Felton Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Grand Lodge of Delaware, Grand Encampment of Delaware, and the Canton of Delaware, and held many offices in all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Mabel Roland Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jean L. Roland of Hartly; daughter, Deborah Bowden of Barclay, Md.; son, Robert Roland of Smyrna; grandson, Shelby Roland of Camden; and sisters, Olive Reynolds of Erin, Tenn., Sarah Hunter of Farmington.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at the Viola Ruritan Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.

Madalyn M. Satterfield

HARRINGTON - Madalyn M, Satterfield, of Harrington, passed away on Dec. 8, 2010, in Milford. She was 87.

Ms. Satterfield was a lifetime member of Harrington Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary as well as a member of the Harrington Senior Center. She also was a member of Pilgrim Chapel Church.

Ms. Satterfield had a great sense of humor and loved having a good time. She loved being with her family and will be missed. If you were her friend you were a friend for life.

In addition to her parents, Eugene and Geneva Tucker, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burton E. Satterfield; her son, B. Kevin Satterfield; and four sisters, Mildred Tucker, Elizabeth Walton, Irene Hayes, and Katherine Bright.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie S. Baker of Milford, and Cheryl Nash and her husband Robert of Milford; three grandchildren, Brian Baker, Shelby Nash, and Joshua Nash, all of Milford; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Baker. The family wishes to thank her caregiver, Crystal Shear for all the care and kindness given to Ms. Satterfield and her family, the past few weeks, and the Delaware Hospice Center for their care and kindness.

Private Graveside Services will be held at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions in Madalyn's memory to: Pilgrim Chapel, 4792 Milford - Harrington Hwy, Harrington, DE 19952; or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.

William D. "Billy" Webb

FREDERICA - Billy Webb, of Frederica, passed away on Dec. 10, 2010, at his home. He was born to the late Derrickson and Virginia Webb.

Mr. Webb was a self employed painter and belonged to the Painters Union Local 100. Mr. Webb also belonged to the American Legion and the Harrington Moose #534. He was a hard worker and enjoyed what he did.

In his spare time, he enjoyed going to the slots and being around his friends. He made friends easily and would give you the shirt off of his back.

He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Strong of Chestertown, Md; sisters, Polly Robbins of Frederica, Libby Kelly of Felton; brothers, Jack Webb of Frederica, Gerald Webb of Harrington, Hoss Webb of Frederica; and his beloved aunt, Jane Brown of Frederica.

Services will be at 7 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 15, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy, Harrington, DE., with visitation one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, family request donations in Billy's memory be made to, Debbie Sipple Memorial Fund for the SPCA. Send donations to: Debbie's Fund for Animals, c/o Felton Bank, 698 A North DuPont Blvd., Milford, De 19963.

James Dudley 'Dud' Stevens, 90

GREENWOOD — James Dudley "Dud" Stevens, of Greenwood, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at his daughter's home. He was born in Kenton to the late Frank W. and Lula Stevens.

Mr. Stevens served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. He was a farmer for most of his life. He was a hard working person who always worked from sun up to sun down. He also owned several race horses, and helped with boarding, grooming and training of several others. In the sixties, he also drove a school bus.

In his spare time, he enjoyed going out to eat to local restaurants. He will be greatly missed by his family and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Stevens; brothers, Franklin and Tommy; and sisters, Gladys, Dorothy "Dot, " Ida, and Fairilee.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Anna M. and Ronald Collins of Milford, and Lorraine Duncan of Milford; brother, Alphonso "Babe" Stevens of Greenwood; grandchildren, J.R. Jester, Janet Carrol, Philip Duncan, Veronica Jester, and Summer Melvin; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, April 8, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.

Arrangements are in the care of Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South Dupont Hwy., Harrington.
