Betty Drummond Krolicki, 83

HARRINGTON - Betty Drummond Krolicki, of Harrington, went home with the Lord on Saturday, May, 1, 2010. She was 83. She born on Jan. 8, 1927, in Delmar, the daughter of the late Andrew and Julia Moore.

She was a seamstress, homemaker, gardener, quilter, church volunteer, Sunday School Teacher, Hospice worker, wonderful mother and dedicated wife.

Betty also enjoyed her time spent as a dorm mother and worker with the Brainard Indian School in Hot Springs, South Dakota. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, reading, and studying God's Word, and anything where family was involved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Krolicki in 2008; and by her husband, Lawrence Drummond in 1998; sister, Annabel; and brothers, Kenneth and Curtis.

She is survived by her daughters and sons and their spouses, Carolyn Heffner of Davis, Calif., Brenda and Bill Hanes of Harrington, Diana and Rob Hyer of Marydel, Susan and Wes Sorrels of Bridgeville, Allen and Darlene Drummond of Felton, and David and Twila Drummond of Nova Odessa, Ukraine; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Foxwell, Mary Ellen Beauchamp, Joyce Pettit, and Elaine Anderson; and brothers, Andrew Moore Jr., Carroll Moore, Jim Moore, and Randall Moore.

Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery, near Denton, Md.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington.

Samuel E. "Sambo" Powell Jr.

HARRINGTON - Samuel E. Powell, Jr. went to be home and in the glory of our God on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010. Sambo was born Nov. 1, 1965, to Samuel E. Powell, Sr. and the late Patricia Inez (Arnold) Powell.

Sambo is survived by his son, Spencer Samuel Earl Powell, III; a step-son, Chase Thompson- Carter; ex-wife, Susan Thompson-Powell; two sisters, Genece A. (Rev. Everett, Jr.) LeCates and Janie L. (Raymond, Jr.) Miller; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

Sambo graduated from Lake Forest High School as part of the Class of 1984. He remained in contact with many that he graduated with. He was a part of the community of Harrington, Sambo participated in the Little League in youth as a player, later as a coach for his sons team. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Sambo has run the family business, Sam Powell & Son, as a Septologist for more than twenty-six years. He and his father, Sam and grandfather, John, provided years of dedicated service to Harrington residents and those from Kent and Sussex county.

An avid lover of many sports, hunting and anything keeping him busy outside. Sambo leaves behind numerous relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services are to be held at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy. Harrington, DE. Visitation on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Life Service on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Everett L. LeCates, Jr. officiating.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington.

Arthur E. Joyal, 75

FELTON - Arthur E. Joyal, of Felton, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, in Milford Hospice Center. He was 75.

Mr. Joyal served his country proudly, and retired from the Air Force with 20 years of service as an aircraft electrician. He also retired from CT Film as a mechanic after 15 years of employment.

When Mr. Joyal was not working hard, he enjoyed watching movies. He was a devoted family man and was in his glory when he was hosting BBQ parties for them. He kept his pool in top shape so it would always be ready when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren came for a visit. He will be sadly missed.

In addition to his parents, Ovid A. and Katherine Joyal, he was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Wayne Joyal; and brother, Ovid Joyal II.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary L. Joyal; daughters, Lee Ann Lepore of Rising Sun, and Mary L. Hensley of Felton; brothers, David Joyal of Grier, S.C., and Bernard W. Joyal of Florida; sister, Shirley of Montpelier, Vt.; grandchildren, Tiffany Lang, Daniel Mize, and Jeff Lepore; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, John Lang, and Tanyon Keid Mize; great-grandchildren, Lili, Kent, Rebecca, and Ethan; and favorite cat, Reds.

Services will be noon, Saturday, July 3, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sandtown.

Ava Michelle Eastman, 2

LAUREL - Ava Michelle Eastman, of Laurel, died on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. She was 2.

Little Ava liked to play dress up and play with her older brother. When she dressed up, she would carry her purse with her toy cell phone around and play with make up. She also loved to play hide and seek with her daddy. Sponge Bob and Dora were her favorite cartoon characters, and she loved her Minnie Mouse doll.

She was a sweet and adorable little princess with long eyelashes, and a big attitude. She would not allow anyone to pick on her big brother. She was always active and on the go, very smart, and liked to dance. She went nowhere without her favorite blanket. She made an impact on everyone she came in contact with, and her presence and big smile will forever be missed.

In addition to parents, Michael and Nicole Eastman of Harrington, and Jennifer M. Segar of Laurel, she is survived by her brother, Tyler Hill of Laurel; maternal grandparents, Robin and Fred Bullock Jr. of Bridgeville; paternal grandparents, Sheila Squier and Scott Eastman of Seaford, Sharon and Paul Spencer of Frederica, Randy and Janice Dill of Felton; paternal great-grandparents, Mary Lou and Irwin Bass Jr. of Viola, and Sandra Talley of Bridgeville; great-great-grandmother, Anna Marie Eastman of Clearwater, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be 1 p.m., Monday July 5, 2010, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be two hours prior. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Melvin Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.

Cornell, Mary Virginia

GEORGETOWN - Mary Virginia Cornell, age 92, of Georgetown, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 10, 2010. Mary was born April 15, 1918, in Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y.

She spent the majority of her childhood living in Hempstead, N.Y., until she moved to Delaware where she called home. Mary was the executive secretary for the New York City Housing Authority for over 13 years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed the company of her dogs, and she enjoyed watching baseball, especially her favorite team the New York Yankees. She could tell you anything about her beloved team.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Francis "Frank" C. and Mary Louise Cornell; and her sisters, Lillian Finspack, Eileen Goff, Amy Cantwell, and Marjorie Ann O'Day.

She is survived by a nephew and his family, John, Lynn, and Kacie Goff of Florida; two nieces, Nancy Osborne of New York, and Amy Cacchillo of Florida; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, Sandy and Charles Foy of Harrington, Kenny, Cierra, Laura, and K.J. Foy of Farmington, Jamie, A.J., and Maxine Foy of Greenwood, Kelly Foy and David Callahan of Newark, Victoria Oberdick of Felton, Jerry and Josie Hayman of Harrington, Sheldon and Bettie Hayman of Milford, and Dallas Hayman of Houston.

Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Arrangements are by teh Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington.

Steerman, Elsie L.

Elsie L. Steerman, 86 HARRINGTON - Elsie L. Steerman, of Harrington, died Friday, July 9, 2010, in the Hospice Center of Milford. She was 86.

During WWII, Mrs. Steerman worked in Baltimore at an aircraft factory. She also worked at Quillen's Market of Harrington for many years as a cashier, as well as a housewife who took care of her family. She loved to crotchet and along with her late husband, they would always grow a big garden. She would then can everything that she could from it.

Her family was her life. She made sure she always took Tammy to band practice, and her sons to their baseball games, which she enjoyed watching. She always made holidays special, especially Christmas time. She went all out to make sure everyone had a good Christmas. Later in life, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be remembered as loving and kind and will be sadly missed. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses on 2 West at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital and the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, for their special care and support of Mrs. Steerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wirt and Violet Smith; husband, Warren G. Steerman; two children, Shirley and Gary Steerman; brothers, Gayle, Kemp, Glenn, and Stanley Smith; sisters, Jean Lowther, Mary Lee Collins, and Betty June Smith.

She is survived by sons, Warren G. Steerman and wife Connie of Harrington, Terry L. Steerman and wife Terri of Harrington; daughters, Linda L. Melton and husband James of Pendleton, S.C., and Tammy S. Shahan and husband Donald Jr. of Harrington; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren; brother, William Smith of Bealton, Va.; sisters, Madeline Eckes of Buckhannon, W.Va., and Virginia Ellis of Wilmington.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, in Rock Cave Independent Baptist Church, Rock Cave, W.Va., where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow at McCutchen Chapel Cemetery, Lewis County, W.Va.

Local Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 12, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952.

Instead of flowers, family request donations to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.

Rash, Grace E.

HARRINGTON - Grace E. Rash, of Harrington, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Milford Hospice Center. She was 86.

Mrs. Rash worked briefly as a nurses aid in Wilmington in her younger years. She mostly was a homemaker who took great pride in raising her family. She loved her cats, and loved to read and cook. She loved to make homemade chicken and dumplings, which everyone looked forward to eating, as well as her signature coconut cake.

Whenever you visited her house, she sat you down to a cup of tea and something to eat. She looked forward to Christmas time as this was the time that the whole family got together.

She will be remembered as a sweet and loving wife, mother and grandmother who was very giving.

In addition to her parents, George Edgar and Millie Lemmon, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Pearl Teed, Mae Williamson, Marian Pierson, Edna Widdows; and stepson, Kenneth Rash.

She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, George Rash Sr. of Harrington; daughters, Sharon Melvin of Harrington, Jean Logan of Harrington, Ruby Farmer of Harrington, and Susan Hitchens of Dover; son, Allen Breeding Jr. of Ft Lauderdale, Fla.; stepsons, George Rash Jr. of Wyoming, Phillip Rash of Magnolia, and Ronnie Rash of Dover; sister, Flora Kibler of Newark; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior to services and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Milford Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
