Rainville, Howard Frederick

MARYDEL -- Howard Frederick Rainville, of Marydel, originally of Naugatuck, CT, died Friday, April 13, 2001 at his home after a short illness. He was 85.

Mr. Rainville was born in Naugatuck, CT on March 5, 1916, the son of Joseph and Ruby Hotchkiss Rainville.

He served with the Army Air Forces in World War II from 1940 to 1945 in New Guinea.

Upon returning to CT he married Lydia M. Uraska and in 1949 they moved to Henderson, MD. In 1952, after numerous jobs, he began working at Playtex and retired as a lab technician in the research and development department in Peramus NJ, at which time they moved to Marydel, DE.

He is predeceased by a brother Joseph C. Rainville and two sisters Marjorie Richardson and Lucille Doris Turkington.

Howard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lydia M. Rainville, his children Roger R. Rainville of Coronado, CA, Patricia R. Collison and husband Andrew of Marydel, DE, and Marilyn J. Walsh and husband Tom of Montgomery, NY; a brother Clifford L. Rainville of Dover, four grandchildren Michael A. Collison and wife Shelly of Camden, DE, Amy J. Salgado and husband Chris of Magnolia, Tyler J. Rainville of Coronado, CA and Sean T. Walsh of Montgomery, NY and three great-grandchildren, Bradley, Justin and Eric Collison.

Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Monday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, where friends may call at 6:00 p.m. until service time.

Burial will be private in Denton Cemetery, Denton, Maryland.

Yaroszewski, Sophie

Sopie Yaroszewski of Dover, Delaware, foremerly of Smyrna, Delaware, died Saturday April 5, 2003 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital.

She was 86.

Mrs. Yaroszewski was born July 10, 1916 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Anthony and Julia Raczkowski Teodzecki.

She worked as a sewing machine operator for General Clothing of Smyrna for 10 years before retirement.

She was a member of St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Yaroszewski in 1981 and a son, Edward Yaroszewski.

She is survived by a son, Theodore Yaroszewski of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Yaroszewski of Spotsylvania, Virginia and 2 grandchildren, Joseph Yaroszewski of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Lara Brown of Fredrickburg, Virginia.

Services will be Thursday April 10, 2003 at 11AM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 south Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9PM.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna, Delaware.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors, Inc., 29 south Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Alice L. Raker

Age 85, died Monday, October 9, 2006 at Manor Care Health Services in Pike Creek.

Alice was employed in the retail business for several years.

She was a member of the Elsmere Presbyterian Church.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur L. Raker, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by four sons, Ronald of Elsmere, Wilbur of Elsmere, Stephen and his wife Patricia of Elkton, MD, and Robert and his wife Laurie of Williamsport, PA; her grandsons, John, Jason, Joshua, and Philip Raker; her great granddaughters, Marie and Amanda; and her sister, Rosalee Raker in Virginia.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Wed. Oct. 11th at 12 Noon. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 to 12 Noon Wednesday morning. Interment in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Elsmere Presbyterian Church, 606 New Rd., Elsmere, DE 19805.

Ragnis, Charles S.

Charles S. Ragnis, age 85, of New Castle and Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Charles was born in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Conrad High School in 1940. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting and trapping. Charles traveled the world on the USS Cogswell while serving in the US Navy during World War II. He retired from Koppers Treatment Plant in Newport, DE and later from Christiana Care. Charles liked to follow the horse races at Delaware Park. As a gardener he enjoyed planting all kinds of seeds. Charles was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles fan who, in his later years, never missed a Bob Barker Show. He was a loving grandfather and great grandfather.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory a son, John Ragnis and his wife Tina; 3 daughters: Trudy Duricek, Theresa Trala, and Marie; sister, Josephine Flaherty of Madison, NJ; 9 grandchildren: Roger "Rocky", Teri, Jamie, Chrissy, Chad, Jay, Brandon, Stacy & Josh; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Ragnis; parents Charles G. and Elizabeth A. Ragnis; son, Charles S. Ragnis, Jr; brother, Joseph Ragnis; and sister, Elizabeth Busa.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 4, 2007 from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 801 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Charles' memory to either the Disabled American Veterans of DE, PO Box 407, Camden, DE 19934 or Ashland Nature Center, PO Box 700, Hockessin, DE 19707.

Phyllis Braund Rafferty

Age 89, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5, 2006 at Kentmere Nursing Home.

Born in Conifer, PA, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Robert Kenzie and Lena (Northey) Braund. She grew up in Philipsburg, PA where she was raised by her stepmother, Marion S. Braund following the passing of her natural mother in 1923 and graduated from Philipsburg Area High School.

Phyllis was employed by Kaumagraph Company in Wilmington from 1961 to 1985. She was a loving and devoted mother and sister. She maintained a lifelong love of flowers, gardening and needlepoint and lived independently until age 84.

Mrs Rafferty was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas R. Rafferty, Sr., her daughter, Carole Rafferty Mitchell and her sister, Ethel Stockley.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Gloria and her husband, Dr. Sancho Manubay of Hockessin; her sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas "Bob" and Joann, Dennis and Camille, and son-in-law, Albert Mitchell, all of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Kevin and his fiancée, Audrey Wood, Scott and Christi, Craig and Carolyn, and Kerry Rafferty O'Connell and husband, Patrick; and four great grandsons, Liam, Ryan, Jason and Connor. Also surviving are her sisters, Jeane Slother and DeMaris Dixon and husband, Dick; and her brothers, Kenzie Braund and wife Delores, Delbert Braund and wife Jane, DeVere Braund and wife Daisy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 10th between 10 and 11 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where funeral services will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Alzheimer's Association of Delaware, 2306 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805. The family offers their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Kentmere Nursing Home for their hugs and professional and loving care.

Radziul, Julian

Julian Radziul, age 84, died on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, surrounded by his family in Wilmington DE after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of Adam and Alice Radziul. Mr. Radziul was plant manager at Conti Packing Co. in Rochester NY for 42 years, retiring in 1998.

He is survived by his sister, Martha Bilik of Wilmington and his nieces, Dorothy Jennings of Hockessin and Marlene Steiner of Wilmington.

The family would like to thank the staff of Valley Manor Retirement Home and the doctors and nurses of Rochester General and his friends for their kindness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 10AM at St. Elizabeth RC Church, 809 Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19805. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Rainville, Virginia R

Virginia R. Rainville, 90, Kenton Road, Dover, and formerly of Denton, MD, went to be home with the Lord Monday June 08, 2009 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 08, 1918 in New Haven, CN to the late Theodore and Amanda Fulker Ramsey.

She worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New Haven until she met and married the love of her life Clifford Rainville. They moved to Maryland in 1949 to become farmers. She spent her life as a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. After her husbands death in 2001, she began volunteering for the Modern Maturity Center in Dover where she made many very special friends. She also volunteered for the Veterans Home in Milford and gave her time to various other organizations. She was very proud of receiving the Presidential Gold Pin from the White House, and the Governor's award from the State of Delaware for her volunteering efforts. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Clifford L. Rainville in 2001 and her sister Deloras Hodgkinson and her brother Vincent Ramsay.

She is survived by Daughter, Lois Holland of Magnolia, DE. Daughter, Virginia Dear of Dover, DE. Sister in Law, Lydia Rainville of, WV. Granddaughter, Kimberly Muphy of Dover, DE. Grandson and his wife, Christopher and Terri Holland of Dover, DE., Grandchild, Jamie Holland of Magnolia, DE. Grandson and his wife, Joseph and Patti Holland of Federalsburg, MD. Granddaughter and her husband, Cindy and Wayne Tribbitt of Greensboro, MD. Granddaughter and her husband, Debra and Gary Wood of West Palm Beach, FL. Granddaughter and Grandson, Wanda Sturratt and Clifford Surratt of, TX. Great grandchildren, Damian Murphy, Christopher Holland, Jr., Julie Holland, Brian Tribbitt, Victoria Wood, Brandon McKinnis, Samantha Surratt, Josh Surratt, and many Nephews, and nieces.

Remembrance Services will be held Friday 06/12/2009 12:00 PM at Trader Funeral Home 12 Lotus Street Dover, DE Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover, DE

Friends may also call Friday 06/12/2009 from 11 AM till time of the service at the funeral home.

The family request that memorial contributions be given to Modern Maturity Center in Dover.
