Rose Van Alstine, 84

GREENWOOD - Rose Van Alstine, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, in the Milford Hospice Center. She was 84. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Salvatore and Dominica Ursino.

Mrs. Van Alstine worked for the U.S. Government as a Secretary in the Selective Service.

Mrs. Van Alstine was a loving and caring grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed going to the beach and sitting in the sun.

Mrs. Van Alstine belonged to St. Bernadette's Church in Harrington. She enjoyed helping a lot of various organizations that her children Gwen and Kirk belonged to including Helping Hands and KSI. She also volunteered at Milford Memorial Hospital and helped with the Special Olympics.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kirk Van Alstine; and brother, Dominic Urisno.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert I. Van Alstine Jr.; daughters, Sylvia Kohler of Schwenksville, Pa. and Gwen Van Alstine of Georgetown; sister, Ester Underwood of Oviedo, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington.

Contributions may be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.

Valiante, Angelo A.

Angelo A. Valiante "Andy" Age 84 of Venice, FL died Thursday, July 3, 2003.

Andy was born to Nicholas Valiante and Mary Palumbo in Wilmington, DE. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. Until his retirement, he was the owner of A.V. Battery Service in Wilmington, DE and an active member of the Delaware Democratic Party.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Albert; and his first wife of 40 years, Louise Puit Valiante, who died in 1980. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Barbara (Scovil) Valiante; 3 sons, Andrew and his wife, Wanda, of Brandywine, MD, Mark and his wife, Sue, of Mt. Airy, MD and David of Wilmington, DE; and 4 daughters, Jane Helsel and her husband, Paul, of Newark, DE, Ursula Bea and her husband, Joe, of Yorklyn, De, Evelyn Sulecki and her husband, Steve, of Newark, DE and Louise Desmond and her husband, Dave, of Wilmington, DE. Other survivors include 2 stepdaughters, Christina Cohen of Derry, NJ and Leila Newcomb of Arlington, MA; 12 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Louis of New Castle, DE and Nicholas of Fenwick Island, DE; a sister, Ann Williamson of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 in all Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice.

Valiquette, Caryl Elizabeth

Caryl Elizabeth Valiquette of Dover, died Saturday, June 16, 2007 in Capitol Nursing Home, Dover. She was 78.

She was born on August 14, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of the late Edward and Maria (Shields) Neal.

Caryl had served her country in the United States Navy during the Korea War for two years.

She had worked as a receptionist for Post Printing, retiring at the age of 62.

She is survived by a son Thomas Valiquette and his wife Jacqueline of Middletown, a sister Margaret Woolard of Newark, Ohio and a nephew John Wooland of Newark, Ohio.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Naumowich, Michael B.

Navy

Michael B. Naumowich died Thursday June 3, 2010 at the home of his son Wayne in Clearwater, Florida.

He was 94.

Michael was born in Scranton, PA in 1916.

He was a Navy veteran, and retired from the DuPont Company where he worked at the Edgemoor, DE plant for 37 years.

Prior to moving to Florida in 2004, he lived in Gwinhurst, and Smyrna, Delaware.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth of 64 years who died in 2002.

He is survived by his children Michael of Irvine, CA; Michele Clawson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and his son Wayne of Clearwater, FL.

Funeral services will be held graveside Tuesday June 8 at 3:00 PM at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.

Van Alstine, Kirk S.

Kirk Steven Van Alstine, of Milford, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 47. Kirk was born in Jacksonville, FL, son of Robert and Rose Van Alstine Jr. of Milford.

Kirk worked at KSI of Milford for over 19 years. He enjoyed working and was dedicated to whatever task was given him.

In his free time, Kirk loved going to the Houston Fire House and hang out. He enjoyed going to parades with the fireman.

His favorite activities included bowling and fishing.

He was also a NASCAR fan. He enjoyed going to Dover Downs and watching the races there. One of the most memorable moments in his life was being able to take 10 laps around the track at the Monster Mile in a race car. After every lap, he gave an enthusiastic thumbs up.

Kirk also enjoyed sports, and his favorite teams included the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies.

Kirk was most often times seen riding his bicycle all around Houston. Kirk was a friendly, quiet person, who made friends very easily. He will be sadly missed by his family and close friends.

Kirk was a member of the St. Bernadette Catholic Church of Harrington. He was also a former member of the Boy Scouts, and participated in the Special Olympics. He also participated and enjoyed going to Camp Pecometh every summer.

In addition to his parents, he is also survived by his sisters, Gwen Van Alstine of Georgetown, Sylvia Rose Kohler and husband James of Schwenkville, PA; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Memorial Service will be Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE, at 12:00 PM. Family will meet friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Houston Volunteer Fire Co., PO Box 122, Houston, DE 19954.

Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington, DE.

Carol A. (DiMaio) Valentine

Carol passed away peacefully on Friday, October 29, 2004 at home and joined her relatives and friends in God's heavenly garden after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Living 59 years as a self-made woman, she graduated from Goldey Beacom College and worked almost 20 years as a medical secretary for Neurology Associates.

She loved caring for her five grandchildren, helping relatives and friends, walking, gardening, interior decorating, traveling, fine food, a glass of wine, a piece of chocolate and enjoying life.

She will always be deeply loved and truly missed by her husband of 40 years, Frank, her son, Michael and his wife, Jenn and their sons, Ethan and Brody, her daughter, Angela Godek and her husband, Corey and their children, Sarah, Joe and Hannah, her two sisters, Shirley Thomure-White and her husband, Bob, of Landenberg, Madeleine Boleslawski and her husband, Bib, of Wilmington, her sister-in-law, Grace Valentine, her father, John DiMaio, Sr. and stepfather, Joseph Alisa, her half-brothers, John, Jr. and James DiMaio, her nieces and nephews and, certainly, her many, many friends. Her mother, Madeleine Alisa, predeceased her in 2001.

Carol would like to thank everyone who cared for her during her illness, including Oncology Care, Delaware Hospice, the 6th Floor nurses and P.C.T.'s, and the Radiation Department of the Christiana Hospital, and, especially, Dr. Biggs and his staff at the Helen Graham Cancer Center where professional care and personal compassion were unending during her illness. May God bless you all.

Visitation will be held on Monday evening between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday morning at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Helen F. Graham Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
