Edward P. Vadden, Sr.

Age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 18, 2005.

Lifelong Wilmington resident and resident of Union Park Gardens for 61 years, Mr. Vadden was born on September 20, 1916, son of the late Thomas Edward and Marguerite Mary (Haggerty) Vadden. He graduated from Salesianum School in 1935. He was the owner and operator of Vadden & Son Plumbing and Heating for about 40 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 307 and a lifelong member of St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church. His wife of 57 years, Edna (Cooney) Vadden, preceded him in death in 1997.

He is survived by his children, Edward Vadden, Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Louisville, KY, Thomas G. and Joseph J. Vadden, both of Wilmington, and Kathleen Vadden Smith and her husband, Timothy, of Elkton, MD. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon and John Uhl, Jennfier and John Bromage, Patrick Vadden, Colleen and John Ecken, Brooke and Benjamin Terranova, Magan Vadden and Bridget Smith. Mr. Vadden was the great grandfather of seven. He is also survived by his two sisters, Margaret "Cis" Kelleher, and Marie "Babe" Sullivan, both of Wilmington; siste-in-law, Marie Lally and brother-in-law, John Sullivan Sr., both of Wilmington.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Delaware Hospice, Inc.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 21st between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday morning at 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th Street and Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 301 N. Bancroft Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19805 or the Oblate Retirement Fund, 2200 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19806.

Adrianus C. Van Bergen

"Art"

Age 78, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Kent General Hospital.

Born in Wormerveer, Holland, he worked as a representative for Heineken Brewery for 24 years before his retirement. A handyman throughout his life, he was well known for his ability to fix anything. He made many home improvements and was always looking for his next challenge. He also worked as a driver for Bancroft Construction. He was predeceased by his first wife, Froukje, in 1978, and his brothers, Dirk, Henk, Klaas, Pieter, Henri and Johannes.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathleen M. (Calhoun) Van Bergen; his daughter and son-in-law, Jannette and Jannes Schenkel of Holland; his stepchildren, Peggy DiMaio and her husband, Jack, Bob Calhoun and his wife, Donna and Jim Calhoun; three grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren and a step-great grandson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 1st at 11 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest, where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Van Dzura, Elizabeth Muriel

Elizabeth Muriel Van Dzura died quietly at home on December 14, 2000 after a short illness.

She was 80 years old.

Muriel was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joseph, her beloved children, Joseph A. Van Dzura, Elaine C. Windsor, Dennis S. Van Dzura, and Janet M. Van Dzura.

She was loved by her four grandchildren, Christine E. Fenimore, Barbara A. Fenimore, Samantha A. Van Dzura and Joseph A. Van Dzura, her son-in-law, Albert J. Windsor, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Van Dzura.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin.

Friends and family who wish to attend visitation may come to the church between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Christian interment will take place immediately following the church services at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Ashland.

In lieu of flowers, it was Muriel's wish that contributions be sent to Little Sisters of the Poor, c/o Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

David A. Van Horn, Jr.

"Coach"

Age 71, of Newark, DE passed away at Christiana Hospital on Monday, January 3, 2005.

Son of the late David A. and Mary (Larkin) Van Horn, Mr. Van Horn was born in Chester, PA and graduated from St. James High School. He retired in 2000 as site supervisor for Catalytic Inc. in Delaware City. Previously, he worked for Sun Oil as a boilermaker for 22 years. Since his retirement, he enjoyed working for Pro Physical Therapy. He was a member of the St. James Alumni Association and the M&C; Athletic Club. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Donald "Ducky" Van Horn.

Mr. Van Horn will be dearly missed by his wife of 12 years, Janet (McTaggart) Van Horn; by his daughters, Kathleen Van Horn of New Castle, Nancy Van Horn of Eddystone, PA, and Maureen Van Horn of Wildwood, NJ; his sons, David A. Van Horn III of Malvern, PA, Joseph Van Horn of Hockessin, and John Van Horn of Pensacola, FL. Also surviving are his step daughters, Cheryl Loveland of Newark, and Deborah Frushon of Bear; his sister, Jean Burke of Brookhaven, PA; three brothers, Raymond and William Van Horn, both of Boothwyn, PA and Robert Van Horn of Phoenix, AZ; 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Road, Wilmington, and again on Friday morning between 9:30 and 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM at Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Drive, Newark. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 1501 Casho Mill Road #1, Newark, DE 19711.

Valentine, Frank J.

Frank J. Valentine, 89, of Woodcrest, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Saturday, March 3, 2001.

Born in Mahonoy City, PA, Frank was the son of Leo and Maria (Zacalli) Valentine who emigrated from Tyrol, Austria. Frank graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, with a chemistry degree and was a quality control analyst for ICI Americas, Inc. for 43 years before his retirement in 1976. He was a member of St. Matthew's Church and the Knights of Columbus. An avid golfer, Frank was also a ham radio operator with the call letters W3HKS. His wife, Mary McHugh Valentine, passed away in 1996.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Carol Valentine of Pike Creek; his daughter, Grace Valentine with whom he resided; his best friend, Ed Kazmerck of Wilmington; a sister, Josephine Valentine of Philadelphia; two brothers, Raymond of Philadelphia and Louis of Riddle Park, PA; two grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Jennifer Valentine and Angela and Corey Godek; and two great grandchildren, Sarah and Joseph Godek.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 8 at 10:30 am at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ministry of Caring, 506 N. Church St., Wilmington, DE 19801.

Wagner, Allen Willis (Dad)

Allen Willis Wagner, "DAD" age 59, of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a devoted son, father and grandfather. Allen worked at what he enjoyed doing most, selling fruits and vegetables from his produce stand and reselling almost anything of value. Allen served his country with honor in the United States Army. Previously he worked at Stauffer Chemical, Getty Oil and Sun Oil and the Red Bird Egg Farm. He enjoyed playing horseshoes at the Delaware City Recreation Club where he was a member for 9 years. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He also enjoyed going to Delaware Park for the horse races. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him.

Mr. Wagner is survived by his mother, Edna G. Wagner; spouse, Celine (Curlett) Wagner; 4 sons, Bryan D. Wagner and his wife Mary, Daniel W. Wagner, Eric M. Wagner and Shawn A. Wagner; 2 brothers, J. Noel Wagner and John M. Wagner; 2 sisters, Erma G. Wolpert and Kaye L. Zeitler; 2 grandchildren, Lindsay and Brooke Wagner. Allen is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edwin and Kevin Wagner.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2006 in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 from 6 to 8 PM and again on Friday, Nov. 3 from 11:00 to 11:30 AM followed by a service celebrating Allen's life at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family greatly appreciates the care given to Dad by the Hospice volunteers, with a special thanks to Nurse Ernie Dempsey. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810.

Wagener, Richard J.

Richard J. Wagener of Dover, died Tuesday, August 21, 2007 in his home. He was 60.

He was born on March 24, 1947 in Mattoon, Illinois, son of the late Norman and Betty (Sexson) Wagener.

Richard had served his country proudly in the United States Air Force for 20 years retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He currently was working for Dawson Bus Service, Camden.

He was an active member of the VFW, Camden.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Michael T. Wagener.

He is survived by a son Richard T. Wagener of Wyoming, a sister Nancy Foster and her husband Richard of Apache Junction, AZ a niece Darlynn Norwood and her husband James and a nephew Michael Rhone.

Services and burial was private in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the VFW Post 3238, P.O. Box 355, Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.
