Shirey, Harry R.
Army

Harry R. Shirey of Smyrna, Delaware, passed away Wednesday June 23, 2010 in the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford, Delaware.

He was 87.

Mr. Shirey was born September 28, 1922 in Harmony, PA the son of the late Harry S. and Tena Powell Shirey.

He worked as a watchmaker for Sayers Jewelers in Smyrna for 30 years before retiring in 1981.

Mr. Shirey was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was a P.O.W. in Germany.

For his distinguished service, Harry received a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross.

Mr. Shirey was a member of V.F.W., Post #8801 in Clayton, DE, where he served as part of the Honor Guard for several years. In 1960, he was recognized as the V.F.W. Commander of the Year. He also served in the Delaware Chapter #1 American Ex-P.O.W.s.

He was a member of Harmony Lodge #13 AF&AM; in Smyrna where he served as Chaplain for several years and was a Grand Lodge Honoree for his service to the lodge.

Mr. Shirey's other memberships in the Masonic organization included the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, the St. Andrew Commander #2 K.T., the Adoniram Council #2, the Royal Arch Masons Kent Chapter #8 and the Kent and Sussex Scottish Rite Club.

In addition, he was a 30 year volunteer of the Air Mobility Command Museum at the Dover Air Force Base.

He was also a devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna.

Mr. Shirey is survived by his wife, Clare Petrak Shirey; three sons, David R. Shirey (Lynn) of New London, PA, Craig A. Shirey (Becki) of Clayton and H. Ray Shirey, Jr. (Maureen). of Downingtown, PA; a daughter, Patricia Pierson (Wayne) of Clayton; a brother, Lewis W. Shirey (Peg) of Poland, OH; five grandchildren; Aaron, Gina, Christopher, Stacy, and Carolyn; and two great-granddaughters; Meghan and Madison.

Services will be Monday June 28, 2010 at 9:30am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9pm.

Masonic services will be at 7:30pm.

Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 330 Smyrna, DE. 19977.

Reinhardt, Dianne Marie

Dianne Marie (Guthmiller) Reinhardt of Clayton, Delaware, died on Monday July 12, 2010 in Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE.

She was 59.

Dianne was born October 19, 1950 in Munich, Germany to the late Harry and Mary Guthmiller.

She grew up in Hampton, VA and then met and married Sam Reinhardt in 1971.

They moved to Deptford, NJ and attended Bethany Lutheran Church, Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church and Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Their daughter, Stephanie was born in 1974 and married in 1999.

Her two grandchildren soon arrived and were the pride of her life. In 2003, they moved to Clayton to be near their daughter and her family.

Dianne was active in the community of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Dover. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Samuel E. Reinhardt; a daughter, Stephanie D. Stewart and her husband, Peter J. Stewart, III, and their two sons, Peter J. Stewart, IV and Samuel A. Stewart, all of Smyrna, DE; a brother, H.H. Guthmiller and his wife Vicki of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Wendy S. Guthmiller of Hampton, VA; an aunt, Georgiana Young of Newport News, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be Friday July 16, 2010 at 11am in St. Andrews Lutheran Church located at 425 North DuPont Highway in Dover, where friends may call at 10am.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 425 North DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901-3907.

"Ponto" Woolridge, Walter A. "Tony"

Walter A. "Tony" "Ponto" Woolridge of Clayton, DE died at home on Thursday March 18, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.

He was 55.

Mr. Woolridge was born July 24, 1954 in West Virginia to the late Walter Roscoe and Zenith Pearl Combs Woolridge.

He worked for Delaware Car Corporation for many years as a Master Mechanic, Master Painter, and as a Fiberglass Technician.

His hobbies included working outdoors and tinkering, making sculptures out of tree stumps, fishing and taking wildlife photos.

He loved playing with his grandchildren, and loved his tomato's and working in the tomato garden.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Lee; two sons, Steven and Albert Woolridge; four sisters, Linda Bilger, Wanda Toy, Martha Hassiepen, and Alesia Cooke; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned privately by the family at a later date.

Carey, John B.

John B. carey of Smyrna, DE passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.

He was 87.

Services and burial will be held privately.

Deacon, Helen E.

Helen Deacon of Smyrna, DE passed away on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Pinnacle Health Care in Smyrna.

Services will be private.

Pernol, Robert C. "Bobby"

Robert C. Pernol "Bobby" of Smyrna, DE died on Thursday October 14, 2010 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

He was 79.

Mr. Pernol was born October 10, 1931 in Smyrna, DE the son of the late Augustus Pernol and Clara P. Connor Pernol.

Bobby was a member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post #14 and the Smyrna Clayton Moose Lodge, both in Smyrna.

He retired after 37 years of service as a Postal Worker for the Smyrna Post Office in which he made 505 deliveries each day, 303 days per year, which resulted in over 5.6 million deliveries during his postal career.

In addition, his walking route was nearly 16 miles each day, which equaled over 140,000 miles walked during his career.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Charles, George and Benjamin Pernol.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; two step-daughters, Violet Bauer of Dover, DE and Sharon Taylor of Felton, DE; a sister, Helen Urian of Smyrna; and nieces and nephews, Barbara Bailey, Charlotte Traverse, Fay Lawrence, Paula Ewell, and Thomas Urian.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 6 pm in the Faries Funeral Chapel located on 29 S. Main St. Smyrna, DE, where friends may call at 5 pm.

Burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to American Legion David C. Harrison Post #14, 107 Glenwood Ave., Smyrna, DE 19977, or to the Smyrna Clayton Moose Lodge, 2035 S. DuPont Blvd, Smyrna, DE 19977.
