Eugene Marshall Holden

National Guard

Eugene Marshall Holden, of Milford, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford surrounded by his family. He was 66.

Eugene was born on July 16, 1944 in Milford, the son of Dorothy Bowen Holden and the late John Marshall Holden.

He served with the Delaware National Guard.

Mr. Holden was a self-employed farmer all his life, starting as a young boy on the family farm and later taking over the operations from his father. He retired from farming in 2007.

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, reading and traveling.

Mr. Holden was a past treasurer of the Milford Grain Co and a past board member of Southern States Coop.

He was an active member of the Philadelphia Church of God in Bridgeport, New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Nancy A. Holden and his mother, Dorothy B. Holden of Milford.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial will be held in Hollywood Cemetery, Route 14, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Philadelphia Church of God, Building Fund, P.O. Box 3700, Edmond, OK, 73083.

Scher, Michael R.

Navy

Michael Robert Scher, of Milford, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at his home. He was 68.

Michael was born on August 20, 1941 in New York City, New York, son of the late Samuel Louis and Bess (Greengrass) Scher.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Mr. Scher worked for several years with Four Star Products in Vineland, New Jersey. After moving to Milford, he was employed as a production manager for Allen Family Foods where he remained until he retired from his position in 2003.

Michael was an avid salt water fisherman. He enjoyed reading and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ian E. Scher.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Rose Lee Scher; two daughters, Angela Marie LaRue and her husband Carl of Rogers, AK and Stacy Lynn Scher of Fayetteville, AK; a brother, David A. Scher and his wife Laurie of Los Angeles, CA; a sister, Mona Ray Berman and her husband Joseph of San Francisco, CA and seven grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may greet the family one hour prior.

Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, National Park Service, National Capitol Parks Center, 900 Ohio Drive S.W., Washington, DC, 20242.

Florence M. Atkinson

Of Milford, Delaware, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 87.

Florence was born on February 10, 1923 in Philadelphia, daughter of the late George W. and Florence M. (Fredericks) Myers.

She was employed for many years with the Wilmington Trust Company in Milford beginning as a teller and retiring as an assistant manager in 1992.

Mrs. Atkinson was a member and past officer of the Ladies of the Elks/ Milford Elks Lodge #2401, a member of the AARP Chapter 3134 in Milford where she held the office of Treasurer for 18 years, a member of the Milford Senior Center where she volunteered her time and talents organizing details for the annual play and assisting the band and chorus and a member of the Pocahontas Chapter of the Redmen.

Florence also enjoyed working as a volunteer in the gift shop of Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Atkinson in 1990.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia L. and Samuel Smargissi, Sr. of Milford; two sisters, Dorothy Swift and Helen Kane, both of Milford; four sisters-in-law, Edith Seltzer, Dorothy Myers, Sarah Atkinson and Lillian Hannon; a brother-in-law, Thomas Atkinson; two grandchildren; Tricia Clendaniel and her husband Ryan and Samuel Smargissi, Jr. and his wife Susie and six great grandchildren; Cassidy, Alissady, Logan and Payton Clendaniel and Mason Leigh and Joey Smargissi.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, October 8, 2010 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be held in the Milford Community Cemetery on Route 113.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Milford Senior Center, 111 Park Ave, Milford, DE, 19963.

Joseph A. Ortiz "Joe"

Age 44, died suddenly on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at home.

Joseph had his own company Gemini Contracting, and also worked for Henkels and McCoy part-time.

Joe was a diehard Steelers fan, and enjoyed fishing, boating, and the ocean. Above all, Joe loved his family and will be remembered as a great dad by his children and a good man by all of his friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances L. (Atkins) Ortiz; his brother, Dale W. Ortiz; and his sister, Jo Ann Ortiz-Hendrickson. He is survived by his father, Elpidio S. Ortiz of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; his children, Cory Ortiz, Alan Radke, Brittany Ortiz, Dannielle Ortiz, and Jesse Ortiz; his sister, Lisa Cahill-Bond; 4 grandchildren; his nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Naomi.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul's R. C. Church, 4th & Jackson Sts., Wilmington on Sunday, February 8th at 5 p.m. Friends may call at St. Paul's R. C. church from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Interment is private.

Wright, Dominic Brayden

On January 30, 2009 our beloved baby, Dominic Brayden Wright, was granted his angel wings. Born August 10, 2008, Dominic's gentle smile and tiny fingers brought so much joy to his family.

Dominic was always moving his little legs while watching Happy Feet. Our precious little boy will be remembered by all the love, joy and smiles he gave to us all in his short little precious life.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Jason and Kendra Wright of Townsend, DE, siblings Christopher and Tyler Wright; his

maternal grandparents Kenneth and Judith White of Hollywood Beach, MD, and Jack and Catherine Geoghegan of, Reisterstown, MD; his paternal grandparents Jim and Phyllis Wright of Smyrna, DE; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends that gave Dominic a lifetime of love during his short time on earth.

Services will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 11AM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery near Chesapeake City, Maryland.

Flowers are welcomed, or the family is accepting contributions in Dominic's memory to defray burial expenses.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium, Inc. 29 South main Street Smyrna, Delaware.
