Christopher C. Merkl

Age 49 of Arden, DE, formerly of Surrey, England passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 3, 2009. He is survived by his cousins Cherry Ionides and Derek Merkl of England. He was a self-employed Contract Programmer with the State of Delaware. He enjoyed cars, volunteering his time with Forgotten Cats Rescue, the YMCA Spinning Program, Arden Community activities, loved fun pranks with friends and was passionate about bicycling. Chris will be lovingly remembered by many friends in the Wilmington community. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial gathering on Tuesday, February 10th from 5 - 7pm at the Arden Guild, 2126 The Highway (via Harvey Rd.) Arden, DE 19810. Sammons, Viola J.

Viola J. Sammons of Clayton passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 89.

She was born on November 3, 1919 in Parksley, VA, daughter of the late Thomas and Carvella (Killman) Justis.

Viola entered her working career at Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill while pursuing a nursing degree and then later enjoyed life as a homemaker.

She was a long time member of Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church, Clayton.

Viola enjoyed gardening, bird watching and spending time with her family.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Walter L. Sammons, Sr., two sons Walter T. Sammons, Sr. and Walter L. Sammons, Jr., and three brothers Stanley N. Justis, Garmon T. Justis and Vance I. Justis.

She is survived by two children Brenda Jean Beers and her husband Jack of Montclair, VA and Vance D. Sammons of Clayton, daughter-in-law Freda Sammons of Templeville, MD, three brothers Stuart F. Justis of Atlantic, VA, Ames L. Justis of Onancock, VA and Kenneth A. Justis of Onancock, VA, grandchildren Christy L. Ulmer and her husband William of Clayton, John J. Beers of Washington, DC, Walter T. Sammons, Jr. and Tina Campbell both of Dover; great grandchildren Chelcey A. Tyre of Clayton, Tyler M. Campbell of Dover and Heidi N. Sammons of New Castle, several nieces, nephews and an extended church family and friends.

A memorial service was held January 30 at the Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church, West St., Clayton.

Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Arrangements were by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Lazorchak, Joseph F.

Age 66, of Wilmington, DE, beloved husband of Virginia Hill Lazorchak, died 02/02/09 at home. Son of the late Joseph H. and Pauline R. Lazorchak. Besides his wife, Ginger, he is survived by two sons, Joseph J. Lazorchak and Andrew H. Lazorchak, a daughter, Liza Jo Lazorchak Phander; five grandchildren, Jake, Cade, John, Jesse Pfander and Drew Lazochak; his sister, Patricia L. Kirk.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass will be held Monday, 02/09/09 at 9:30 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, Wilmington, DE and interment at 11 AM at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Christiana Care Heart Center, Delaware Hospice or the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center.

Vicente, Lydia Esther

DOVER - Lydia Esther Vicente of Dover passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 72.

Lydia was born on June 17, 1936 in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Ramon and Theodora Hernandez.

She had worked as a seamstress and enjoyed knitting and watching soap operas.

Lydia is survived by her husband Angel D. Vicente, a daughter Jeanette Vicente of Dover, a son Angel D. Vicente, Jr. and his wife Lakeita of Keller, TX, a sister Gloria Cortes of Bronx, NY, six grandchildren Joshua Palmer and Melanie Palmer both of Dover, Kadarrius Jackson, Jordan Vicente and Kamerran Vicente all of Keller, TX, and Alejandra Vicente of Arlington, TX.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Reynolds, Barry N.

Navy

Barry N. Reynolds, of Clayton, passed away on Tuesday February 3, 2009 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 66.

He was born in Port Jefferson, NY, the son of the late James and Marie Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds was a Navy veteran. He retired after 35 years of service as a splicer for Bell-Atlantic. He also owned and operated Reynolds Tree Care for 10 years, which will continue to be operated by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pamela Jean Reynolds; a son, Toby Reynolds, of Clayton; a daughter, Barbi Reynolds, of Clayton; a brother, Ralph Reynolds, and a step-brother, Jimmy Reynolds, both of Long Island, NY; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.

Shutt, Barbara Jean Wilkerson

GEORGETOWN - Barbara Jean Wilkerson Shutt of Georgetown, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 67.

Barbara was born April 17, 1940, in Frankford, to the late Manford J. and Elizabeth C. (Hudson) Wilkerson.

She was a bookkeeper, retiring in 2002.

Barbara worked at Mountaire, Inc., Selbyville, for 10 years; Jacob's Oil Co., Wilmington, for 15 years; and before that at the Delaware Trust Co., Wilmington.

She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Selbyville.

Barbara was a 1958 graduate of Selbyville High School, where she graduated with a Business Education Diploma.

She was former vice president of the Business and Professional Womens Club, Penny Hill Branch, Wilmington, for two years.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour before.

The Rev. Betty Jo Magee will officiate.

Interment will be in Carey's Cemetery, Millsboro.

Jesse Joswick

Age 77, of Wilmington passed away at Wilmington Hospital on December 23, 2008.

Service is private.
