Pierson, Frances S.

Age 84, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Dec. 3, 2000 at the home of her daughter.

Her parents were Mary and Milan Smith of Searsport, Maine.

Frannie was born in Woolwich, Maine on October 25, 1916.

She graduated from the University of Maine as Phi Beta Kappa of her class with majors in French and Latin and a minor in physical education.

She taught in Falmouth, Maine for five years & coached the winning girls’ basketball team.

Frannie met her husband, Henry Pierson, at the University of Virginia in 1939 and were married in Augusta, Maine on Dec. 26, 1943.

Her late husband was a teacher at Chester High School for many years.

They have two children, Douglas Pierson of Drexel Hill, PA and Virginia Warren, both born in Wilmington.

Frances is also survived by three sisters: Carol Cervone, Ruthanne Stevens, and Marlene Smith and son-in-law Paul Warren.

She loved her family very, very dearly and had five grandchildren: Adam, Glen and Cory Pierson and Kenny and Amanda Warren.

She also had 4 neices and a nephew and may loving cousins in Maine.

Frannie touched each person’s life she encountered with a special warmth & magnetism and sincere interest.

Her outlook and interests stayed so young that she remained popular with all age groups.

Her outlook and philosophy were guieded by strong prayers and being able to live the Serenity Prayer.

Francis was loved by so many because her passion was in living and loving people of all backgrounds.

She was a friend to anyone who was in need.

The last seven years she was a regular aide in her daughter’s class at Heritage Elem. School.

Frances taught at Wilmington High School for 22 years.

She taught Latin, French and English.

She was Teacher of the Year there and a quote from her school said “ Mrs. Pierson was a dedicated teacher who worked tirelessly with her students and who did not have the word “no” in her vocabulary.”

She gave unstintingly of her time & love to her students.

She took them to Italy twice and took caravans of students to her cabin in Maine.

Frances’ real passion were her family & friends and her summers on Echo Lake in Fayette, Maine with her Maine family,

She was the center of activity on the lake.

She was known as the “Hostess with the Mostess.” She loved to swim & taught many to swim.

She also swam at the Clarence Fraims Boys’ Club in Elsmere, DE Frannie will be missed by many.

Her “I’m fine, deahs” and quick smile will be lasting memories.

Her saying was “A smile costs nothing but gives much.”

The example she gave to all in how to live with love and to die with grace & strength will live on in all of us.

Crouse, Leona "Snooks"

Leona "Snooks" Forster Crouse, died Jan. 19 2001 at Walter Reed Medical Cntr. in Washington, DC

She was born Jan. 31, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA to George and Martha Lucas Forster.

At a young age moving to Wheeling, W. VA. with her parents she grew up there and graduated from Wheeling High.

It was there that shortly after W W I I she married her childhood sweetheart James L.R. Crouse.

Snooks with her husband came to Delaware in 1957 as part of the Dover Air Forse Base Family.

She remained active in her concern with her military family.

Serving as both active member and Past President of Air Force Sergeants Association Ladies Auxiliary for many years.

Later after the death of her husband in 1983, she became an active volunteer for the BRAVO Team that serves Dover Air Force Base.

Over the years, she has worked at the appointment desk, the hospital, and the terminal. Logging many, many hours at her jobs.

She is survived by a brother-in-law C.D. Crouse and his family in Anaheim, CA and a niece and nephew C.J. Farmer and his family and Sandy Carmen and her family both of Bellaire, OH.

She is also survived by very special friends Claire Walls of Camden, Richard and Charolenne Shehorn and their son Richard ShehornJr., of Hartly.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial Service at Trader Funeral Home 12 Lotus Street Dover, DE Sat. Jan 27, 2001 at 10 am.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Holleger, James H.

James Henry "Jim Bob" Holleger, Sr. of Woodside, died on February 2nd at home. He was 70 years old.

Mr. Holleger was born on January 11, 1931 in Felton, Delaware to the late John T. and Lola R. Holleger.

He served in the U.S. Army for 9 years as an Engineer.

He served in the Korean War.

From 1968 to 1972 he was co-owner of Hollegers Super Market in Cheswold, De. with his brother, Fred S. Holleger of Dover.

From 1963 to 1968 he owned Woodside Market.

From 1968 to 1978 he worked for Gilpen Drug Company.

For 17 years he sold produce at Spence's Sale and Laurel Flea Market until he became ill two years ago.

Mr. Holleger is survived by his loving wife and best friend for 45 years, Shirley A. Holleger; 7 children, James H. Holleger, Jr. of Milford, De., Patricia A. Mitchell of Dover, De., Bonnie Holleger Pinder of Bridgeville, De., Carrie Rae Kimball of Felton, De., Michael G. Holleger of Dover, De., Richard Scott Holleger of Magnolia, De., and Edna Beth Rash of Smyrna, De.; 17 grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Ivanette Flowers of Dover, De., Fred Holleger of Dover, De., Amanda Consalo of Bridgeville, De., and Rebecca Hollinger of Lincoln, De.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Holleger, two half-brothers, Stanton Holleger and Thomas Holleger and a half-sister, Anna Moore.

He was dearly loved by his family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 7th at 2 PM at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.

Pastor William Kidwell of the Smyrna Church of Christ will officiate.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel from noon until 2 PM.

Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
