BLOOMFIELD - Mary Ellen Vannoy, 79, of Bloomfield, Iowa died April 7, 2009 at the Bloomfield Care Center.
She was born
September 12, 1929 in Davis County, Iowa to Ralph and Hazel Gandy Frymoyer.
She married
Clinton Vannoy February 15, 1956 in Monterey, Iowa.
She was a farm wife and a lifetime resident of Davis County.
She is survived by a brother, Dean (Marianna) Frymoyer of Ottumwa, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Louise Frymoyer of Bloomfield, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Howard Lee, Bob, and Harold Frymoyer; and a sister, Florence Downing.
Graveside services will be at 10:30am Friday, April 10, 2009 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa with Kramer Smith officiating.
Open visitation will be from 9am until 9pm on Thursday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Crystal V. Arnold
BLOOMFIELD - Crystal V. Arnold, 91, of Rio, Illinois and former resident of Davis County, Iowa died March 24, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was born
September 20, 1917 in Albia, Iowa to Sylva and Bertha Stufflebeam Johnson.
She married
Samuel W. Arnold March 17, 1934 in Bloomfield, Iowa.
He preceded her in death October 26, 2000.
She was a member of the Open Bible Church in Burlington, Iowa.
She worked at the Me Too Grocery Store in Cedar Rapids for several years and had been living in Rio for about 15 years.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Delores Hunt of Rio, Illinois, Dorothy Simmons of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; 3 brothers, Jason Johnson of Bloomfield, Iowa, Kyle “Dude” Johnson of Drakesville, Iowa, Franklin Johnson of Burlington, Iowa; and a half-brother, John Dittmer of Arvada, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sons, Dale and Dean Arnold; 4 brothers; a sister; and 2 half-brothers.
Funeral services will be at 2:30pm Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Revs Bert Johnson and Dwight Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Taylor Cemetery in Appanoose County, Iowa.
Visitation will begin at 12:30pm on Friday with the family present to greet friends from 1:30pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Helen McMains
BLOOMFIELD - Helen McMains, 94 of Mason City, Iowa and former resident of Bloomfield, Iowa joined her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on March 22, 2009 after 5 months of ill health.
Helen was a long time member of the Mark Baptist Church in Davis County, Iowa until 2003 when she and LaVern moved to Mason City to be closer to their daughter.
Helen was born
May 11, 1914 to Lewis and Jeannette Kimball and was raised in several small towns in Southern Iowa.
She attended 7 different schools and graduated from Moulton High School in 1933.
Her father, Lewis, started BennerT Grocery Stores, requiring the family to move 9 times during Helen’s 12 years of school.
Helen accepted Christ at a young age and continued serving Christ all her life. She played the piano for church for almost 70 years.
She married
LaVern McMains, November 25, 1933 and to this union 3 children were born.
They farmed for 45 years in the Mark, Iowa area.
Their lives were centered around the church, family, and hard work.
They retired in 1978 and moved to Bloomfield, living at 406 N.W. Street for 25 years before their move to Mason City, Iowa.
They joined the First Baptist Church where their son-in-law, Ron, is the pastor.
Helen was faithful to read the Bible daily and attend church services.
She enjoyed music, crocheting, gardening, sewing, visiting, and telling grandchildren about her early life.
She and LaVern had 72 years and 9 months together.
Their children had hosted many celebrations in honoring anniversaries and birthdays with family gathering from all over the United States to be with them.
Survivors include three children, Charles (Judy) McMains of Mesa, Arizona, Karen (Ron) Stein of Mason City, Iowa, and Phil McMains of Biloxi, Mississippi, 9 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Annabelle Kimball, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Harold Kimball.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Mark Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa, Friday, March 27, 10am with Rev. Ronald Stein officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 26, 6-8pm at the funeral home.
Betty J. Fountain
BLOOMFIELD - Betty J. Fountain, 85, of Bloomfield, Iowa died March 12, 2009 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa.
She was born
February 18, 1924 in Davis County, Iowa to Willie Leroy and Ida May Fultz Fry.
She married
Alva Jerome “Buzz” Fountain in 1945 in Bloomfield.
He preceded her in death July 9, 1982.
She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a lifetime resident of Davis County.
She is survived by a sister, Judith Thorne of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 5 brothers, Rex, Bob, Roger, Bill, and Gene Fry; and a sister, Christine Bain.
Funeral services will be at 10am on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating.
Burial will be in the Fountain Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa.
Visitation will begin after 9am on Sunday with the family present to greet friends from 2-4pm at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
Esther Carolyn Lawson
ALBIA - Esther Carolyn Lawson, 82, of Albia, Iowa and former resident of Bloomfield, Iowa died March 4, 2009 at her home.
She was born
February 19, 1927 in Hoxie, Kansas to Edward and Anna Cremer Wegman.
She married
Harley L. Lawson March 2, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa.
He preceded her in death November 29, 2008. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, the Altar and Rosary Society and former member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Bloomfield.
She was a homemaker and had lived in Albia since 2003.
She is survived by 2 sons, Gary (Cindy) Lawson of Houston, Texas, Harold (Joye) Lawson of Bloomfield, Iowa; 2 daughters, Trish Russell of Albia, Iowa, Dori (Steve) Chapdelaine of Lowell, Michigan; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 brothers, Clarence, Raymond, and Victor Wegman; a sister, Estella Gall; and a son-in-law, Bob Russell.
A memorial mass will be at 11am on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia with Rev. Mike Volkmer officiating.
A rosary service will be at 10am on Saturday followed by family visitation until the time of the service.
A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to the Albia Senior Center.
The body has been donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in Iowa City, Iowa.
The cremains will be buried at a later date at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is assisting the family.
John Gingerich Jr.
BLOOMFIELD - John Gingerich Jr., 88 of rural Bloomfield, Iowa died March 5, 2009 at his residence.
He was born
February 14, 1921 in Wolford, North Dakota to John C. and Leah Wagler Gingerich.
He married
Annie Hochstedler October 2, 1947 in Arthur, Illinois.
He was a farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Ivan Gingerich of Kokomo, Indiana; 3 daughters, Irene Gingerich of Bloomfield, Iowa, Ella (Edwin) Yoder of Bloomfield, Iowa, Lena (Jerry) Gingerich of Hunnewell, Missouri; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a brother, Abe Gingerich of Author, Illinois; 2 sisters, Anna Mae Gingerich of Author, Illinois and Fannie Marie Hochstedler of Bloomfield, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 8 brothers; 4 sisters; and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 9am on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the T. Corner Furniture at 16961 Jade Ave, Bloomfield, Iowa 52537.
Minister in Charge Bishop John Earl Kuhns will officiate.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa.
Friends may call on the family after 9am on Saturday at T. Corner Furniture.
Beulah Humphrey
MILTON - Beulah Humphrey, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
She was born
July 4, 1913 in Pulaski, Iowa to James Edward and LeuEmma Ernst Ritz.
She married
Orphie L. Humphrey March 2, 1933 in Lancaster, Missouri.
He preceded her in death March 5, 1991. Orphie and Beulah spent most of their married
lives in Milton, Iowa where they raised their three children.
Orphie worked as a carpenter and Beulah was a homemaker.
They moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1989.
She was a member of the Lincoln Street Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
She enjoyed reading, cross stitching, and embroidering.
She is survived by a son, Carl (Betty) Humphrey of Milton, Florida; a daughter, Louise (Keith) Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Roger Hervey of Fort Myers, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 daughters, Darlene Hervey and infant Mary Lou Humphrey; 2 sisters, Alta Frymoyer and Velma Linkey; brothers Roy and Floss Ritz and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be at 11am on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Cantril Christian Church in Cantril, Iowa with Pastors Jerry Caughron and Jim Hughes officiating.
Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton, Iowa.
Visitation will begin after 10am on Thursday until the time of the service at the church.
A memorial has been established to the Pleasant Manner Care Center Activity Fund.
Maxine Miller
BLOOMFIELD - E. Maxine Miller, 89, of Iowa City and former Bloomfield, Iowa resident died February 18, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
She was born
June 25, 1919 in Moravia, Iowa to Clarence C. “Bud” and Elva Main Waughop.
She married
James W. Miller August 16, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa.
He preceded her in death May 10, 2005. She worked at Davies in Bloomfield.
She was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Bloomfield.
She volunteered at the Davis County Hospital and Welcome Center.
She loved playing Bridge, Golf, traveling, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Regina (Greg) Brown of Wapello, Iowa; and 2 grandchildren, Clinton Brown of Pella, Iowa and Ashley Brown of Davenport, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Graveside services will be at 1:30pm on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa with Rev. James Wakelin officiating.
Visitation will begin after 9am Sunday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the family present to greet friends from 12:00pm until the time of the service.
Following the service the family will be at the Bloomfield Christian Church for fellowship.
A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Christian Church.
