He was shipped out on the USS Zeilin, a transporter, where he served meritoriously with the Pacific Fleet. Bob returned to the U.S. victoriously in 1945, having survived several Kamikaze attacks. With a dearth of finances, yet an abundance of steadfastness, he moved after the war to the Chicago area, where he eventually joined Cardox/Chemetron Corp. as a salesman.
His strong work ethic earned him a promotion to the East, where he purchased a house for his family in Cherry Hill, N.J. In 1971, he earned another promotion back to the Chicago area, settling in Darien, Ill. There, he served with the nations first Rotary Club. His extraordinary integrity and diligence eventually earned him a final promotion and relocation to the San Francisco Bay area as a vice president for the same company, now acquired by Liquid Air Corp., until his retirement in 1991 after 38 years of service.
Bob and his wife resided in Walnut Creek, Calif., for 26 years. He lived as an honorable man and generous provider for his family, with unwavering character in all things. It is said everyone liked Bob because of his affable nature and his genuine respect and caring for others. His legacy includes his authored book, The Oldham-Renard: Keokuk Connection (located on Amazon.com), and his soon to be published book, In the Beginning, detailing the Oldham and Kay family genealogy from its earliest known origin.
