Nellie Meek
Nellie H. Meek, 99, Moline, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Services are noon today at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline.

Visitation was Thursday at the funeral home, with a St. Mary's Altar Society rosary. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church.

She was born March 7, 1902, in Ladd, Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Frances Bukota Link. She married Frank Howard June 24, 1939, in Freeport, Ill. He died Feb. 1, 1953. She married LeRoy Meek March 15, 1954, in Lodi, Wis. He died July 11, 1978.

She was employed as secretary to building inspector and later served for 12 years as city clerk for the city of Rockford. She also owned/operated Main Recreation Bowling Alley, Freeport. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the church Altar Society.

Survivors include stepsons, Lorraine Meek and Robert Meek, both of Lodi; nieces, Joyce Sipari, Lyndhurst, Ohio, Helen Hunt, Phoenix, and Dorothy Doty, California; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Norman Lynn
Norman Robert Lynn, 76, Frostproof, Fla., formerly of East Moline, died April 17, 2001, at home.

Private services will be held.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a radarman on the USS Bellawood. He married Ida Ferreri May 30, 1981.

He was employed by Alcoa and retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline, in 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Ida; stepchildren, Todd (Marleine) Davis, Rock Island, Danny (Becky Marie) Griffith, and Ricky (Shelley) Griffith, both of Davenport, and Denise Morehead (Mike); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special cousins, Earl and Alice Paasch, East Moline, and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepchildren, Debbie Williams and Kenny Griffith, and several aunts and uncles.

Lillie Ruark
Lillie L. Ruark, 89, of 2220 State St., Pekin, Ill., formerly of Table Grove, Ill., died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Pekin Memorial Hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home, Ipava, Ill. Burial is in Bushnell Illinois cemetery . Visitation is one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

She was born May 3, 1911, in Carrollton, Ill., the daughter of Milton and Olive Snow Lorton.

She worked at Hoods Cafe in Bushnell and was a homemaker.

Surviving are her daughters, Sarah Maxine Tosi, Manito, Ill. and Alice Martin, East Moline; son, Edward Ruark, Milford, Neb.; seven grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Lorton, Bushnell.

Margarete Fritz
Margarete M. Fritz, 101, Galva, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Toulon Health Care Center.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at Galva cemetery . There is no visitation. Galva Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Nov. 29, 1899, in Berlin, Germany, to Wilhem and Martha Manske. She married Heinrich Schmitt in 1919. He died in 1953. She married Arthur Fritz in 1967. He died in 1976.

Surviving are daughters and son-in-law, Lilly and George Wilson, Galva, and Melanie O'Neil, Newburg, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Manske, Germany; special nephew, Joseph Manske, whom she raised as a son, and his wife, Nicki, San Mateo, Calif. She was preceded in death by a son, Dieter Schmitt.

Julia Lenz
Julia F. Lenz, 85, Aledo, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo.

Arrangements are pending Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo.

Kevin Lilly
Kevin H. Lilly, 34, of New Boston, was found Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in New Boston after an intensive search as a result of a boating accident.

Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. The Rev. Richard A. Bishop will officiate. Burial is in the New Boston cemetery . Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home where a memorial fund has been established.

He was born May 31, 1966, in Aledo, the son of Harold and Doris Manewal Lilly. He graduated from Westmer High School and attended Horticulture and Landscape Design courses at both Black Hawk College and the University of Arizona.

In 1981 he began his career in the landscaping business with his brother. He later owned and operated his own landscape design business in Tucson, Ariz., where he won numerous honors and awards before selling his business and returning to New Boston in 2000. He was currently employed at Keller and Keller Landscaping in Muscatine.

He loved nature and the outdoors.

Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Lilly, Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Cyndi and Donna, New Boston, Rita, Millersburg, Carla, Unionville, Mo., Lisa, Joy, and Michelle, Indianapolis; half-sister, Gloria, Iowa; brothers, Ken, East Moline, Mike, Eutawville, S.C., David, Havana, Ill., Sam, New Boston, and Scott, Aledo; half-brothers, Dale, Milan, and Eddie, Rock Island. His parents and sister Betsy preceded him in death.

Rupert Riedel
Rupert Riedel, 95, formerly of Biggsville and Monmouth, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at the home of his daughter, Betty Hale, Little York.

Cremation has taken place with a memorial service set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Little Cedar United Presbyterian, Little York.

No visitation is planned. Memorials to the church.

He was born Aug. 23, 1905, in Hustler, Wis., to John and Martha Foege Riedel. He married Frances Fainter June 14, 1926, in Indian Creek, Wis. She died May 23, 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Hale, Little York; grandchildren, Sandra Rogers, Arizona, Wendy Hale, Missouri, and Connie Sallows, Port Byron; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Dora Lee Williamson
Dora Lee Williamson, 80, of Geneseo, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Geneseo.

Arrangements are pending at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo.

G. Harold Young
G. Harold Young, 95, Monmouth, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home, Roseville.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. Burial is in Little York cemetery .

Visitation is Monday afternoon with family present from 5 to 8. An Odd Fellows service will begin at 7:30.

He was born Nov. 27, 1905, in Little York, Ill., to Fred and Bertha Hadsell Young. He married Lois Guilinger in 1930 in Little York. She died April 25, 1987.

Survivors include daughters, Maxine Cline, Monmouth, and Gwendolyn Hartong, Columbia, Md.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Arthur Young, Monmouth; and half-sister, Mabel Melvin, Oquawka.

Shirley Bahns
Shirley Bahns, Davenport, died April 18, 2001, at Manor Care, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary. Burial is in Fairmount cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today.

She was born in Davenport, to Harry and Olga Gultzow Bahns.

Her life as an artist and work in the advertising field lead to the opening of Bahn's Art Studio, where she also taught art classes.

Survivors include a sister, Marlene Wilson, Taylor Ridge; a brother, Gerald, Prescott Valley, Ariz.; two nephews; and a niece.

Mary Ann Buttenob
Mary Ann Buttenob, 57, St. Louis Park, Minn., passed away Sunday, April 15, 2001.

Services were Thursday at Albin Chapel, 2200 Nicollet, Minneapolis, Minn., with visitation one hour prior to services. Additional services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverside cemetery Mausoleum, Moline.

Mary Hill was born the daughter of James and Mary Hill.

She worked at Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park, Minn.

Survivors include a brother, Gilbert Hill, Minneapolis; three stepchildren; sisters, Bonnie Mattox, Phoenix, Ariz., and Sandra Callahan, Bettendorf; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Velma Day
Velma G. Day, 88, Bettendorf, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Genesis East.

Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Weerts Funeral Home. Burial is in Cedar Park cemetery , Chicago.

Visitation is 1:30 p.m. to service time.

She was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Chicago, to Arthur and Ila Graff VanAntwerp. She married Melvin Day in 1934 in Chicago. He died in September 1976.

Survivors include daughters, Dana Witmer, Fishers, Ind., and Janet Meyers, Bettendorf; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Everett Stapleton, Bettendorf.

Marie Bolton
Marie A. Bolton, 91, River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at the center.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church, Keokuk, with The Rev. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial is in Keokuk National cemetery .

Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Monday at Greaves Mortuary, Keokuk. Memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church or CASI, both in Davenport.

She was born Oct. 3, 1909, in Sonora Township, Ill., to George and Valerie Wellner Wilkens. She married Orville Ray Bolton June 2, 1936, in Nauvoo, Ill. He died March 23, 1950.

She lived her early years in Nauvoo. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced private duty nursing and had been a school nurse in Keokuk. After retirment, she moved to Davenport in 1977.

She was a member of Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of Charity, NAIM Club and had been a volunteer with R.S.V.P.

Survivors include sons, William C. Bolton and wife, Elizabeth, Long Grove, Iowa, George R. Bolton and wife, Virginia, San Diego, Calif., and Thomas A. Bolton and wife, Patricia, Davenport; a daughter, Patricia Dietz, Rock Island; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Loyola Hutson and husband, Albert, Nauvoo. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Bollin.

Rosemary Garard
Rosemary K. Garard, 76, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Parkview Healthcare Center, East Moline.

Services are 8:30 a.m. Friday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline and 9 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Rock Island where she was a member. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Christian Wake service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.

Mrs. Garard was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Chicago, the daughter of Wallace and Hilda Balluff Hugunin. She married Robert A. Garard Sept. 14, 1940, in Davenport.

She retired after 30 years as a systems analyst and security officer for data processing for the Headquarters, U.S. Army Weapons Command, Rock Island Arsenal.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Kenneth Van DerGinst, Moline; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lisa Garard, Rock Island; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Eric `Rick' Keyes
Eric ``Rick" Keyes, 46, Rock Island, died Monday, April 9, 2001, in Jonesboro, Ark.

Memorial services are tentatively set for the first week of June at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.
