Bernice Wechselberg
Bernice B. Wechselberg, 89, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, formerly of Fenton, Ill., died Monday, July 28, 2003, at the nursing home.

There are no services or visitation. Cremation rites were accorded. Graveside services are at a later date. Bosma-Renkes, Morrison, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Milwaukee, Wis., daughter of Paul J. and Clara Michaelski Ramthun. She married John R. Wechselberg Aug. 10, 1957, in Milwaukee, Wis. He died July 10, 2001.

She was a commercial artist until entering the Marine Corps. She served during World War II from Sept. 6, 1943, to Nov. 9, 1945, as an architectural draftsman stationed at U.S. Marine Corps Headquarters, Arlington, Va.

Surviving is her sister, Virginia Burns, Fenton.

Gale De Sha
Gale L. De Sha, 41, of Davenport, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Visitation is 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Cremation will follow.

He was born July 29, 1962, in Whitehall, Ill., son of David and Mary Staats De Sha.

Surviving are his father, Blue Grass; daughters, Elizabeth, Megan and Samantha De Sha, all of Richmond, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Trisha and Jeff Tank, Davenport; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jennifer, Davenport; niece and nephew, Jeremy and Josie; Davenport; special friend, Leslie Hildebrandt, Davenport.

Willard Farnum Sr.
Willard J. Farnum Sr., 80, of Buffalo, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Arline Fugate
Services for Arline K. Fugate, 83, of Lewisville, Texas, formerly of Davenport, are 7 p.m. Friday at Cunnick-Collins, Davenport. Visitation is 4 p.m. to services. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

She died July 28, 2003, in Lewisville.

She was born Jan. 21, 1920, in Davenport to John and Freda Coleman. She married Woodrow Fugate March 14, 1942. He died in 1999.

Surviving are her children, Woody Jr., Tulsa, Okla., Jim, Davenport, Jeanne Walden, Corinth, Texas, and Mary Ellen Griggs, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; nine great-grandchildren.

Norman Hartz
Norman L. Hartz, 93, of Davenport, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

James Hodges
James T. Hodges, 60, of Davenport, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials go to Joann Hodges.

James was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Begota, Texas, son of Harmon Lee and Jonnie May Hope Hodges. He married Joann Ross May 8, 1975, in Rock Island. She survives along with his former wife, Nancy Charlene Hodges. Jim was a drywall finisher.

Survivors (and spouses) are his wife; sons, Stacy (Teresa), Austin (Mia) and Tony (Nikki) Hodges; daughters, Jonnie Hodges and her fiance, Keith, and Tina, Felicia and Melonie Hodges; brothers, Jesse, Jack and David Hodges; sisters, Regina and Connie; 17 grandchildren.

Angel Lilly
Angel Lee Lilly, infant daughter of Ron and Holly Leasman Lilly, Davenport, died July 30, 2003, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Private services will be held. Burial is in Mount Calvary cemetery , Davenport. Memorials go to the family. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is handling arrangements.

Survivors are her parents; sister, Montana Lilly, and brother, Garrett Lilly, both at home; grandparents, Rhonda and Larry Pruden and Randy and Sylvia Leasman, all of Davenport, and Karen Carter and Bill Franck, Maysville, Iowa; great-grandparents, Bill and Mary Buckley, Joan Carter and Debbie Carter, all of Davenport; aunts and uncles, Will and Jami Leasman, Larry Pruden Jr., Randy Leasman and Marlene Castell, all of Davenport, Chad and Angie Pruden, Washington, and John Pruden, Oklahoma.

Shirley Renner
Shirley J. Renner, 72, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

She was born March 28, 1931, in Hannibal, Mo., to Lester A. and Jewell M. Johnson Hayes. She married Russell W. Renner June 11, 1950. He died Oct. 11, 1999.

She enjoyed the companionship of her beloved dog, Missy.

Survivors are her daughter, Lori L. Renner, Bettendorf; grandson, Ian M. Renner, Bettendorf; and many, many special friends.

Everett Stapleton
Everett A. Stapleton, 88, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Patricia Swanson
Patricia Ann Swanson, 71, of Blue Grass, Iowa, died July 29, 2003, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cunnick-Collins, Davenport. Burial is in Pine Hill cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

She was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Davenport to Emanuel and Laura Linder Miller. She married Ronald Swanson June 14, 1958.

Survivors are her husband; daughters, Karen Rogers, Murrells Inlet, S.C., Peggy Groharing, Davenport; son, Scott Swanson, Oconomowoc, Wis.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Lind, Nashville, Tenn.

James Acuff
Services for James G. Acuff, 60, Rock Island, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery .

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Assocation or the Quad City Animal Welfare Shelter, Milan.

Mr. Acuff died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at his home.

James was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Davenport, the son of Lon R. and Charlotte M. Copp Acuff.

Mr. Acuff was a truck driver for Eagle Foods, last working in 1980. He had also worked for Railway Express, Rock Island Glass Co., and the Alter Co., Davenport.

James was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island.

Survivors include his daughters, Lisa Grey, Moline, Christine Acuff and Kathy Acuff Stevens, both of Circleville, Ohio; six grandchildren; sister, Suzanne Manhard, Rock Island; brother, Donald Acuff, Canton, Ill.; nieces, Julie A. Manhard and Laura Pointer; many great-nieces and -nephews; and special friends, Carline and Bob Lee, of Moline.

Esther Black
Services for Esther M. Black, 79, of Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Friday, at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Mrs. Black died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

The former Esther Heriford was born Feb. 25, 1924, in Murrayville, Ill., the daughter of Charles M. and Leta Steele Heriford. She married Paul Black Jr., Feb. 24, 1945, in Murrayville. He died March 29, 1995.

Esther had worked as a clerk at the Walgreen's Drug Store, Rock Island, for 20 years and retired in 1994.

She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Esther enjoyed playing bingo, flower gardening, traveling and shopping. But most of all, she enjoyed her family.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Carmen Marchese, Milan, Debbie and Michael McGonigle, Stacy, Minn., Sheri Black, Rock Island; a son, Charles 'Rick' Black, Elgin, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Black Forsyth, Rock Island; grandchildren, Tom Marchese, Kehla Garrett, Andrew, Jeffrey Eric Black; great-granddaughters, Kelsey and Kadey Garrett, Megan Marchese; and sister, Carol Ragland, San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Black, in 1982; sisters, Rose Marie and Pearl Fay Heriford, Opal Hennessey; and brothers, Charles 'Chuck, ' Marshall 'Buss' and Paul Ray Heriford.

Maureen Magee
Maureen Ashe Magee, 84, of Bourbonnais, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, Ill.

Services were in Bryson City, N.C. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery , Waynesville, N.C. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to the charity of your choice.

She was born July 6, 1919, in Whittier, N.C., the daughter of Scott Allen and Lillie Belle Miller Ashe. She graduated from Swain County High School, Bryson City, and Draughn's Business College in Knoxville, Tenn.

Mrs. Magee previously was employed as a secretary for the superintendent of schools in Swain County, N.C., for 26 years. She retired from the U.S. Army Arsenal in Rock Island, where she had been a weapons manual editor. After retiring, she had been a resident of Bourbonnais since August 2000.

Mrs. Magee had been a lifelong volunteer and was a member of many organizations. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and several clubs in her home town. She enjoyed knitting and had made more than 500 knitted hats which she donated to various charities.

Mrs. Magee is survived by a daughter, Maureen Antognoli, Bourbonnais; grandchildren, David and Cathy Antognoli, Kankakee, Gina Antognoli, Bradley, Ill., Joseph Antognoli, Bourbonnais, and Lisa Antognoli, Asheville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Paige and Emily Antognoli; and a sister, Opal Davis, Evans, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother and a grandson, Scott Antognoli.

Hallie Marckese
Services for Hallie M. Marckese, 85, of Rock Island, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be to Pathway Hospice or to the church.

Mrs. Marckese died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

The former Hallie Lambert was born May 8, 1918, in Durant, Okla., the daughter of Larkin and Annie Saunders Lambert. She married Charles C. Marckese, June 16, 1937, in Rock Island.

Hallie was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Naomi Circle of the Presbyterian Women and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. She was a life member of the In His Name Circle of Kings Daughters. Hallie enjoyed cooking, reading and loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Tom Campbell, Rock Island, Lisa and Dave Hurt, Des Moines, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Sandee Marckese, Naperville, Ill; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Marckese in 1993.

Eleanor Davidson
Eleanor Callahan Davidson, 79, of Milan, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Heartland of Piqua, Piqua, Ohio.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline.

Warren `Bud' Tindall
Warren S. 'Bud' Tindall, 90, of Milan, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Heartland Health Care, Moline.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Family Funeral Services, Milan. Burial is in Preemption cemetery . Visitation is 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Heartland Healthcare or First Presbyterian Church, Milan, where he was a member.

He was born July 18, 1913, in Milan, the son of Herman and Florence Bollinger Tindall. He married Harriet J. Dean Sept. 6, 1941, in Milan.

He was employed as a welder for 26 years at Minneapolis-Moline. He also worked at Hydraxter and Strombeck-Becker. In later years he worked for a while in real estate.

He greatly enjoyed gardening and the outdoors, repairing items in his workshop, visiting and especially helping his neighbors.

Survivors (and spouses) are his wife, Harriet; daughter Yvonne (William) Bonick, Matherville; sons, Gary (Velma) Tindall, Tucson, Ariz., and Kevin (Debbie) Tindall, Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Tavia, Erika, Kevin Jr. and Chelsey Tindall, Aaron Bonick and Aubree Norton; sisters, Mickey Zo Peterson, Rock Island, Edith Mueller, Milan and Myra Goenne, Oxford, Miss. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pete; and sister, Irma.
