Harold Julius
Harold Julius, 77, died unexpectedly Monday, June 10, 2002, west of George.
Services were Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, George, with interment in Riverview cemetery , Rock Rapids.
Mr. Julius was born May 14, 1925, at Ellsworth, Minn., the son of Simon and Jennie (Walter) Julius. He served his country during World War II, being discharged Nov. 22, 1946.
On Oct. 4, 1958, he married
Sarah "Sally" Geick in Luverne, Minn. They lived in George where he was a businessman.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tod of Rogers, Ark., and Harold L. of Kansas City, Kan., and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Lillian Kistler
Lillian Kistler, 94, of Sandpoint, Idaho, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002.
Survivors include three children including Donald of Inwood, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
Elmer Saeger
Elmer Saeger, 95, of Rock Rapids died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Rock Rapids Health Centre.
Services were Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview cemetery .
Mr. Saeger was born Sept. 5, 1906, near Hull, the son of William and Hulda (Stoehr) Saeger. He grew up and attended school in the Hull area before the family moved to Lakewood south of Rock Rapids. He farmed with his brothers until serving in the army during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to farming in the Lakewood area. In 1991, he moved into Rock Rapids. On March 20, 2001, he became a resident of Rock Rapids Health Centre.
Survivors include two brothers, Edwin and Kenneth, both of Rock Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lillian Luinstra and Myrtle Saeger.
Lillian Reilly
Lillian Reilly, 74, of Houston, Texas, died Sunday, June 16, 2002.
Lillian Ranschau was born Sept. 4, 1927, the daughter of Henry and Anna Ranschau. She grew up near Rock Valley and graduated from high school in 1945.
On Dec. 30, 1950, she married
John Rielly in Rock Valley. They raised nine children and have 21 grandchildren. Survivors also include two brothers, Frank of Luverne, Minn., and Carl of Doon, and three sisters, Elsie Thielvoldt of Alvord, Rose Grossenburg of Winner, S.D., and Elaine Luce of Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Dale Juel
Dale Juel, 74, of Merriam, Kan., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, one daughter, two sons, six grandchildren, one brother and two sisters including Agnes Twedt of Larchwood.
Mary Ellen Sinclair
Mary Ellen Sinclair, 80, of Rock Rapids died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Funeral mass was Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in the church cemetery .
Mary Ellen Roach was born Feb. 25, 1922, at Rock Rapids, the daughter of Nicholas and Cornelia (McGraw) Roach. She grew up in the Rock Rapids area and attended country school before graduating from Wilson High School in Rock Rapids in 1940. She then worked at Van's Market in Rock Rapids.
On Sept. 25, 1947, she married
Marvin Sinclair in Rock Rapids. They lived in Rock Rapids and farmed southwest of Rock Rapids. They moved to the farm in 1968.
After their children were grown, she received her certified nurse aid diploma from Sheldon Vocational School. She cared for others as an advocate and worker through the Area Council on Aging and Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital. She was also a foster home mother.
At Holy Name Catholic Church, she was a eucharistic minister and a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas over 50 years and served as state vice-regent four years. She was a 4-H leader over 40 years and served on the executive council. In 1989, she recieved a volunteer award from Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad.
Her husband died Sept. 21, 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis of Cedar Falls and Alex "Gene" of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Diana Sinclair of Rock Rapids and Mrs. Steve (Marlene) Bartlett of Marion; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Dr. Kenneth of Sioux City, and one sister, Mae Hartman of Ventura, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Deborah Sinclair; one brother, Nick Jr., and one sister, Barbara Vogel.
Raymond Lamfers
Raymond Lamfers, 79, of George died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at his home.
Services were Friday at Hope Reformed Church, George, with interment in the church cemetery .
Mr. Lamfers was born Sept. 5, 1922, at George, the son of Ralph and Essie (Stubbe) Lamfers. He grew up near George and attended country school and George High School.
On March 5, 1945, he married
Jeanette Korthals. They farmed west of George. He served on the George Farmers Co-op Association board 10 years and served on the Hope Reformed Church consistory.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Roger of Rock Rapids; four daughters, Mrs. John (Shirley) Symens of Amherst, S.D., Mrs. Harm (Donna) Aning of Eureka, Mo., Mrs. Galen (Jeanne) Breuer of Hull and Mrs. Mark (June) Ranschau of West Jordan, Utah; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Elvin of Sun City, Ariz., and two sisters, Frieda Eide of Riceville and Mrs. Hessel (Anna) DeJong of Rock Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Carol; one sister, Bernice Becker, and three grandchildren, Colleen and Sheryl Symens and Christopher Ranschau.
Dr. Henry DeJong
Dr. Henry DeJong, 89, of George died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at George Good Samaritan Center.
Services were Monday at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, George, with interment in Evergreen Lawn cemetery .
Dr. DeJong was born Feb. 10, 1913, at Boyden, the son of John and Tryntje (Beukens) DeJong. He attended Boyden Christian School and Boyden Public School. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a DDS. He served in the cavalry from 1940-1942, one of the last cavalrymen in the army.
On Sept. 10, 1952, he married
Lorraine Schol in Nashua. He practiced dentistry in George.
He served on the George City Council.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, Bernard of Lubbock, Texas, and three sisters, Jeanette and Eunice DeJong, both of Boyden and Mrs. Tenas (Joanne) DeJong of Tustin, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frederick.
