Otto E Goeringer
Otto E. Goerginger, 85, of Bellevue, Wash. died Thursday, June 21, 2001 at his home.
Private services were June 26, with a military burial at Tahoma National cemetery at Kent, Wash.
Survivors include his wife, Viola; three children, Jan (husband George) Johnson of Bellevue, Wash., two sons; Merle of Rapid City, S.D., and Ken of Bellevue, Wash.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ewald and Walter Goeringer of Hull, and one sister, Viola Ackerman of Bismarck, N. D.
Elizabeth Kruid
Elizabeth Kruid, 93, of Sioux Center, formerly of Ireton, died Thursday, Nov. 8, at Sioux Center Community Health Center.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at Christian Reformed Church in Ireton. The Rev. Ron Sprik officiated.
Mrs. Kruid was born to Gerrit and Allie (Busser) Boone on April 5, 1908, near Maurice. She married
James Kruid Sr. on Dec. 12, 1928. The couple lived in Carnes and Ireton, and later at the Franken Manor before going to the Sioux Center Nursing Home.
Elizabeth was a member of Christian Reformed Church in Ireton and Ruth Circle. She enjoyed crocheting and attending dinner date in Ireton.
She is survived by three sons, Gerrit and his wife, Cynthia of Sioux Center, Adrian and his wife, Greeta of Hawarden, and Elmer of Ireton; seven daughters, Gretta and her husband, Richard Huenink of Crete, Neb., Evelyn Kamstra of Glendale, Ariz., Elaine and her husband, Lee Hofland of Orange City, Geraldine of Ireton, Esther and her husband, Warren Willis of Frazier Park, Calif., Arlene and her husband, Ted Driesen of Rock Valley, and Geneva Jansen of Spencer, two daughters-in-law, Gertrude Kruid and Linda Kruid Bockelman, both of Hawarden; a son-in-law, Menzo Regnerus of Fargo, N.D.; two sisters, Jeanette Biesbrock and Alice Remmers; 43 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Christine Nibbelink
Christine Nibbelink, 90, of Orange City died Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Paul Bakker officiated.
Christine was born Feb. 6, 1911, in Pella, the daughter of George and Grace (Vander Linden) Engbers. She was raised on a farm near Pella. In 1928, she moved with her family to Orange City.
On Sept. 1, 1932, she married
Gerrit W. Nibbelink in Orange City. They farmed northwest of Orange City. Mr. Nibbelink passed away July 28, 1961, in Orange City. In October 1964, Mrs. Nibbelink moved into Orange City. She became a resident of Pioneer Memorial Home in January 1986. In November 1999, she transferred to Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community.
Christine was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in Harmony Circle. In earlier years, she taught Sunday School and catechism. She enjoyed doing volunteer work.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Dr. Donald and Elsie Nibbelink of Lindsdale, Pa.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Lynne and Robert Kvinnesland of Center Valley, Pa.; Brian Nibbelink of Burlington, Vt., Kevin and Christy Nibbelink of Fort Collins, Colo., and Bruce and Jean Nibbelink of Leesburg, Va.; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leona Kooistra of Jenison, Mich.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Erwin Lee on Oct. 14, 1996; a brother, Albert Engbers; and a sister, Freda Heynen.
Memorials are being directed to Hope Haven in Rock Valley.
Arvilla M. S. Breuer
Arvilla Breuer, 91, of Hull died Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Sioux Center Community Hospital in Sioux Center.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull. The Rev. Gerald Aamot officiated.
Arvilla was born Sept. 3, 1910, in rural Hull, the daughter of Albert and Martha (Schlossin) Techen. She attended country school northwest of Hull and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
On Jan. 22, 1930, she married
Henry "Hennie" Breuer at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They farmed northeast of Hull, living on the same farm for 46 years. In September 1975, they moved into Hull. Henry passed away April 17, 1976, in Sheldon.
Arvilla was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She was a homemaker, who enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, and did a lot of hand work.
She liked spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Marvin and Marcella Breuer of Sioux Center, Dorothy and Willis Van Kley of Sanborn, and Ronald and Karen Breuer of Le Mars, five grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Arlie Techen of Hull; and a sister, Leona Scheerhorn of Sanborn.
William H. Kosters
William H. Kosters, 87, of Orange City, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. at First Reformed Church, Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated.
William Henry was born Feb. 16, 1914, in Lincoln Township, the son of Henry W. and Grace (Van't Hul) Kosters. He was raised in the Hull area and served in the United States Navy during World War II.
On Feb. 28, 1941, he married
Sadie Rikkers at Hull. On Sept. 17, 1977, he married
Lois Rensink at Sioux Center.
For most of his life, "Bill" made his home in Orange City, where he was a carpenter. On Sept. 6, 1996, he became a resident of the Valley Manor.
He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he has served on the consistory as a deacon and was a Stephen's minister. He also belonged to the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City, and he was a former Gideon.
Survivors include his four children and their spouses, Tylene and Allen Zevenbergen of Sioux City; Harold and Lila Kosters of Orange City; Shirley and Alton Harrell of Omaha, Neb.; and LaVonne and Peter Hoekstra of Sioux Center; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters and their husbands, Fanetta and John De Wild, of Rock Rapids; and Margaret and the Rev. Alvin Hospers, of Grand Haven, Mich.
Fred Bonestroo
Fred Bonestroo, 76, of Sheldon, died on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at his residence in Sheldon.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiated.
Fred William Bonestroo, the son of Egbert "Bert" and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Korthals) Bonestroo, was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Hull. He grew up in Perkins and the Hull area. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was proud to serve his country and remained very patriotic throughout his life. On Oct. 28, 1943, Fred was united in marriage to Clara Dirksen in Perkins. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Fred worked in the Ford garage in Rock Valley until moving to Sheldon in 1956 working in a distributing business until retiring. Fred and Clara enjoyed traveling to California and Texas for many years.
He was an active member of United Methodist Church. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7354, serving as Quartermaster for 35 years and resigning only after becoming ill. Fred was instrumental in helping to organize the Avenue of Flags. He was one of eleven World War II veterans to receive his high school diploma this past May with the Sheldon High School Class of 2001. This was something that he always wished for and was very proud of.
For the past three years, Fred and his wife were part-time house-sitters at the Christian Retirement Home. He thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent there with the residents.
Fred will be remembered as a gentle and caring man of great character who loved his family, as well as his church and country.
Fred was a member of United Methodist Church, the Sheldon Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post #145 of Sheldon. He was also a member of the Avenue of Flags.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Clara of Sheldon and their four daughters and son-in-laws; Arlene and Bob Sterler, Lynn and Dean Seivert, all of Sheldon, Pat and Larry Snyder of Fremont, Neb., and Pam and Darrell Kruger of Tea, S.D.; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald and his wife, Gert Bonestroo of Hull, Leonard and his wife, Henrietta Bonestroo of Sheldon, a sister; Albertha Rozeboom of Sioux Falls, S.D., and four sister-in-laws; Anne Bonestroo, Agnes Bonestroo and Betty Bonestroo, all of Hull, and Frances Oldenkamp of Doon, and many, many friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers, Egbert, Henry, Ben, Alvin, Tom and Edward in infancy; a brother-in-law, Herm Rozeboom and a sister-in-law, Nellie Bonestroo.
