Mary E. Roberts, age 93 of Marengo, died Saturday morning, June 4, 2005 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg with Rev. George Bishop officiating. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery, rural Deep River. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday, June 6, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.
She is survived by a son, Donald Roberts and wife Karen of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Scott Roberts, Barry Roberts, Christopher Roberts, Joel Roberts, Jennie Theisen, Tim Roberts, Kevin Roberts, and Kay Roberts; and ten great-grandchildren, Cody Roberts, Trevor Roberts, Sadie Roberts, Taylor Roberts, Jacob Barnes, Donny Roberts, Austin Roberts, Jacob Linn, Hudson Roberts and Hunter Roberts and a daughter-in-law, Diana Roberts of Conroy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond, a son Kenneth, a daughter-in-law, Donna Roberts, three brothers, Marvin Taylor, William Taylor and Roy Taylor, and two sisters, Edith Cram and Mildred Roberts..
Mary Elizabeth Taylor was born icon October 14, 1911 in Millersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Ellsworth and Mary Schaefner Taylor. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1929 and married Raymond Humphrey Roberts on May 6, 1936 in Macon, MO. The couple farmed south of Marengo for many years. He died June 18, 1977. Mary moved into Marengo in February 1978. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg.

Emma Mae Smith, age 90 of Marengo, died Tuesday evening, May 10, 2005 at Rose Haven Nursing Home with her daughter, Alice, and her son Carroll and wife Phyllis at her side. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 14, 2005, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 P.M. Friday, May 13, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where there will be a Scripture Service and a Time of Sharing at 6 P.M. Memorials may be contributed to Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo.
Surviving are her children, Sharon (Eugene) Hoffmann of Beloit, WI, Carroll John (Phyllis) Schmidt of Anchorage, AK, William Stanley (Barbara) Smith of Seacaucus, NJ, Kathleen (William) Pustarfi of New York City, NY, Alice (Barry) Campbell of Luther, MI, Phillip (Linda) Smith of Belton, TX, Thomas (Thu Thi) Smith of Moreno Valley, CA and Faye (Patrick) Bates of Santa Fe, NM; 15 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Darlene Smith of Ladora, and Elenora Kozishek of Williamsburg, along with many nieces and nephews.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William J. Smith on April 1, 1984, a daughter, Barbara Heck in 1999, 3 sisters, Clara Kozishek Smith, Elsie Krakow, Sr. Marjorie Kozishek and 3 brothers, Charles, Frank and James Kozishek.
Emma Mae Kozishek was born icon April 30, 1915 in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of James Kozishek and Barbara Zakostelecky Kozishek. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1933, and married William J. Smith on September 23, 1936 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. The couple raised nine children and ran the family farm for most of their married life. William died April 1, 1984.
She was a homemaker while raising her children and later worked at Rose Haven Nursing Home as a housekeeper and cook. Following her retirement, Emma volunteered at Rose Haven, the Marengo Memorial Hospital, the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP), and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She was honored in 1992 with the Iowa County Volunteer of the Year Service Award. She was well known in the city of Marengo as a Good Samaritan who assisted wherever it was needed for anyone who called upon her. She lived her entire life in Iowa County, except for 8 years that she spent in Texas.
Emma enjoyed music throughout her life, playing piano from her early years, as well as the organ and accordion. She was an avid gardener, enjoying her flowers and plants. She also enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble. Her family was a priority and she maintained constant contact with her children, relatives and friends, even though they lived long distances away. She was active in her church, volunteering for numerous activities. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her giving way of life and her gentleness toward all. She lived a truly Christian life.

Dorothy Slaymaker, age 91 of Belle Plaine, formerly of Marengo, died Wednesday evening, May 4, 2005 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 7, 2005, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Reva Rimmer officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday, May 6, 2005 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice K. Edwards and husband Ronald of Conroy, and K. “Kathy” Joyce Wiebold of Marion; 7 grandchildren, Patricia McClure (Tom) of Williamsburg, Diania Graves (Jerry) of Victor, Janelle Ohmstede (David) of Newton, Tony Wiebold (Wendy), Beverly Wellner (Terry), Dwayne Wiebold (Tami) and Teresa Ellerby (Jeffrey); 11 great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild; nieces, Lois Mae Johnson, Lucille Stockman, Wilma Kinney and Theresa Bigbee; two nieces-in-law, Velma Nigg and Evelyn Benedict, and a special nephew, Rawson Gorsch and wife Alice of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merritt Slaymaker, two daughters Mary Ann and Peggy Lou in infancy; a brother Frank, three sisters, Martha Schroeder, Mildred Nigg and Jennie Strayhan; and two sons-in-law, Roy Wiebold in 1995 and Dale Wiebold in 1985, and two nephews, William Nigg and Warren Allen.
Dorothy Lou Allen was born icon January 14, 1914 in rural Benton County, the daughter of Link and Lois Ann Brown Allen. She attended Stuckenbruck School in Benton County and attended Belle Plaine High School. She married J.F. Merritt Slaymaker on November 3, 1932 at the Methodist Parsonage in Marengo. The couple farmed for 35 years southwest of Ladora. Dorothy was a homemaker and mother, who enjoyed quilting, needlework, gardening, and various crafts. She also enjoyed traveling and accompanied her nephew, Rawson and his wife to Hawaii. When Merritt died in 1976, Dorothy moved to Ladora and then to Marengo to live with her daughter Janice and their family pet, Spiker, a Chihuahua dog. She has made her home at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center since 1999.
Dorothy attended the Koszta United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Methodist Ladies Aid, Marengo Busy Bees Sewing Club, and Victor Women’s TOPS Club. She also attended the Ladora monthly potluck dinners, and morning coffees. She enjoyed games of UNO and dominoes. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.

Dorothea Helen Wadden, age 94, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 3, 2005 St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday, May 2, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where there will be a Vigil Service at 6:30 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Keiser and husband Jim of Marengo; three grandsons, Kim and wife Joyce, Terry and Randy all of Marengo; five great grandchildren, Shelby Sample and husband Joe, Andrew Keiser, Jacob Keiser, Steven Keiser, and Nathan Tuttle; two great-great grandchildren, Jordan and Addison Sample; a brother, Charles Blair of Tempe AZ and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1975, three sisters, Eloise Heartjen, Laureen Fuller, and Mary Craig; two brothers, Alfred Blair and Milton Blair and a great-grandson, Nicholas Keiser.
Dorothea Helen Blair was born icon January 6, 1911 in Hartford Township, south of Ladora, the daughter of Fred and Mabel Robinson Blair. She received her education in the rural Ladora schools and graduated from Moline High School in 1929. Dorothea married Floyd “Boomer” Wadden on May 19, 1934 in Davenport, Iowa. She managed the Lunch Department at F.W.Woolworth in Rock Island for many years. In 1948, the couple moved to Marengo, where she was employed by Amana Refrigeration until retiring in 1972. Floyd died October 18, 1975.
Dorothea was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family.

Marsha Lea Taylor, age 19 of Marengo, died Wednesday evening, April 6, 2005 from injuries sustained in an auto accident near Tama. Funeral Services: 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Meadow Hill Christian Fellowship, Highway 151, Homestead, IA with Pastors Dianna and Larry Buswell officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, April 8, 2005 and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Meadow Hill Christian Fellowship in Homestead. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her parents, Joe and Terri Taylor; a brother, Patrick; and maternal grandmother, Lolita Blaha, all of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jim and Rose Marie Taylor and maternal grandfather, Joseph Blaha.
Marsha Lea Taylor was born icon April 6, 1986 in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended the Iowa Valley schools and graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 2004. She was attending Kirkwood Community College and was employed as a waitress at Maid Rite restaurant in Little Amana.
She was loved and will be missed by her family and many friends
Clark August Huedepohl, age 75, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 29, 2005, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Pastor Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, March 28, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his wife Genevieve; five children, Vickie Rathjen, Terry Huedepohl and wife Shelia, Connie Butler, and Pam Simmons and husband Bill, all of Marengo, and Mark and wife Pam of Shepherdsville, KY; 10 grandchildren, Kyle Rathjen and wife Fran, Kirk Rathjen and wife Ashley, Kourtney Rathjen, Shawn Huedepohl and wife Alyson, Heidi Knapp and husband Dave, Aaron Laskey and husband Mike, Brian Butler, Brent Butler, Joshua Simmons and Jalissa Simmons; and 10 great-grandchildren, Payton, Logan, Cole and Caleb Rathjen, Jenna, Collin, and Camden Huedepohl, Conner and Caden Knapp, and Madylin Laskey. In addition, he is survived by a brother, Darwin Huedepohl, and wife Sharon of Victor, and two sisters, Jasiel Timm of Victor and Phyllis Fiebelkorn of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons-in-law, Jere Rathjen and Ken Butler.
Clark August Huedepohl was born icon September 4, 1929 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Fremont and Irene Zimmerman Huedepohl. He received his elementary education at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Williamsburg and graduated from Hilton High School, Conroy in 1947. He attended Concordia College in Minnesota for a year. Clark married Genevieve “Jenny” Keil on June 4, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Marengo. Clark owned and operated Huedepohl Implements, (John Deere dealership) in Marengo until he retired in 1989. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo and a past president of the Iowa County Hawkeye “I” Club (1984 & 1985). He enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, and vacationing at Lake of the Ozarks. He was an avid Hawkeye Sports fan and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities.

Margie Jane Cronbaugh, age 84, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 12, 2005, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Paul Moore and Rev. Delbert Rankin officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, March 11, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Oaklawn Church of God or the Iowa Valley Community Schools.
Survivors include a daughter, Tami Overturf (Jim) of Cedar Rapids, a son, Rick Cronbaugh (Teri) of Marengo; 6 grandchildren, Erik Overturf (Stephanie) of Jacksonville, FL, Jill Overturf Aldrich (Chad) of Glendale, CA, Aaron Cronbaugh (Trish) of Marengo, Ashley Cronbaugh of Chicago, Jason Cronbaugh (Erin) of Kansas City, MO, and Kari Simpson (Russ) of Olathe, KS; two great-grandchildren, a step great-grandchild; and a sister Janis Hinrichs (Gary) of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carroll in 1994, a son Terry, and a brother, Bob.
Margie Jane Paulson was born icon July 22, 1920 in Albert Lea, MN, the daughter of Rueben and Hattie Halverson Paulson. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1939. Margie married Carroll Cronbaugh on October 4, 1941 in Marengo. The couple farmed in Honey Creek Township for over 50 years. In 1997, Margie moved to Marengo.
She was a member of the Oaklawn Church of God in Koszta, was a former 4-H leader, and volunteered at the hospital and the Iowa County Historical Society. She enjoyed all sports and traveling and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Richard Allen Foerstner, age 67 of rural Tipton, formerly of Middle Amana, an accomplished businessman, avid outdoorsman, who was loved by many, passed away Wednesday morning, March 9, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. He was born icon May 28, 1937 in Middle Amana, IA, the son of George C. and Nora L. Foerstner. He graduated from the University of Iowa with an engineering degree and spent the majority of his career at Amana Refrigeration, Inc. He was Vice President of Radaranges and was responsible for the design of the first 115V, portable, consumer microwave oven. Richard also testified in Washington D.C. before the FDA establishing microwave emissions standards for the industry. After his successful career at Amana, he founded and became president of GF Computer Systems of Iowa City, IA.
In retirement, he pursued his love of the outdoors by hunting, fishing, and traveling extensively.
Richard was involved in the community and served as the chairman of the Foerstner Foundation, Inc., which provided college scholarships for the sons and daughters of Amana Refrigeration employees. He also served on the board of Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Additionally, he and his wife Arlene established the Johnson County Children’s Trust and gave generously to many causes.
Richard is survived by his wife, Arlene; a daughter, Suzanne M. O’Malley and husband Stephen of Fishers, IN; a son, Craig A. and wife Rebecca of Coralville; 6 grandchildren, George Colin Foerstner, Cassandra A. Foerstner, Catelyn, M. Foerstner, Quinn A. Foerstner, Kelley M. O’Malley, and Matthew S. O’Malley; and a sister, JoAnn Meyer and husband Alex of Middle Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 12, 2005, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, Iowa with Elder Harold Pitz officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, March 11, 2005 at the Middle Amana Community Church. Memorials may be gifted in Richard’s name to The Johnson County Children’s Trust, The Holden Cancer Center, The Iowa Scholarship Foundation, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

Andrea Jo “Andy” Oehl Even, age 43, of Amana, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from injuries suffered in an auto accident. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 4, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Homestead with Rev. Wayne Woolery officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 P.M. Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In lieu of flowers memorials may be contributed to Zach’s College Education Fund or the Children’s Miracle Network.
She is survived by her husband Michael, a son, Zachary, and her parents, Don and Judy Oehl, all of Amana. In addition she is survived by aunts, uncles and many cousins and a special friend, Jon Wylie. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Andrea Jo Oehl was born icon January 17, 1962 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Judy Schwarting Oehl. She received her education in the Amana Community schools and graduated from Amana High School in 1980. She attended Edison Community College in Ft. Myers, FL. Andrea married Michael Even on August 25, 1984 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Homestead. She worked for many years with Oehl Plumbing and Heating, the family business and was employed as a ward clerk at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids at the time of her death. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Homestead, and was active with the Amana Youth Soccer Organization.

Everett Overton dies at age 86
Longtime Indianola resident and former owner of Overton Funeral Home, Everett E. Overton, 86, died the morning of Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Crozier Medical Center in Chester, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Indianola. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Overton Funeral Home.
The family will be present at the visitation from 5:30 to 8 p.m. to greet friends.
Mr. Overton is survived by his wife Grace, a son John Overton and a daughter Joan Overton, all of Indianola; a daughter Jean Stock of Wallingford, Pa.; and a son Roger Overton of Elko, Nev.
