Ella Peters, age 99 of Marengo, formerly of Corwith, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, October 28, 2005 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo following a brief illness. Graveside Services: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at the Corwith City Cemetery, Corwith, IA with Pastor Daniel Andrews of the Victor Baptist Church officiating. At her request there is no visitation. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Ella Martha Hanson was born icon July 22, 1906, on a homestead near Killiam, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of George and Emma Anderson Hanson. At the age of 3 ˝ she moved with her family to a farm near Westbrook, MN. She began her education in the country school next to her parents’ home. She continued her education throughout high school and Bible college.
Ella married Rev. Cornelius H. Peters on November 14, 1930 at Westbrook, MN. She enjoyed assisting him as he pastored Baptist churches in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, and as he was an administrator at Northwest Baptist Homes in Charles City, IA and in Minneapolis. The couple semi-retired in Pharr, TX, where they were associated with the Mexican Mission Ministries. In 1974 they retired to Corwith, IA. She fulfilled her lifelong mission to be a help and encouragement to others.
Following the death of her husband in 1985, Ella came to live in Marengo. In 1997 she moved to Rose Haven Nursing Home where she resided until her death. While she remained a member of the Corwith and Renwick Baptist churches, she attended the Victor Baptist Church, Victor, IA after moving to Marengo.
Ella is survived by her son, William and wife Edith of Marengo; two grandchildren, Kyle of Marengo and Thea Bray and husband Scott of Ainsworth, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother James Hanson.
Ella’s life was lengthened and enriched by the expert and loving care she received from everyone at Rose Haven Nursing Home and Amenity Hospice and from Dr. John Rachow. The faithful visits from Pastor Dan Andrews and ministry from Marne Risdon encouraged her spiritually.

Melvin Leroy Berstler, age 69, died Sunday, October 16, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2005, First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. Morris Hurd officiating. Burial will be in the Bishop Cemetery, rural Marengo. Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Survivors include his wife, Ann; two sons, Ronald (Julia) of Williamsburg and Daniel (Becky) of Williamsburg; a daughter, Deborah Dee Recker (Mike) of Marengo; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Ira Wayne Berstler (Donna) of Marengo; and very special friends, Doug and Diana Lenton of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lavon, and Howard.
Melvin Leroy Berstler was born icon January 20, 1936 in Poweshiek County, Iowa, the son of Samuel Merlin and Ruth Helen Newberry Berstler. He received his education in the English Valley schools and graduated from North English High School in 1954. He married Charlotte Ann VanDee Kerkove on May 28, 1955 in North English. Melvin was a technical electrician at Amana Refrigeration for 44 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, and the Amana Union LL 1526.

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Watts, age 87, died Friday, September 9, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg with Rev. George Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, September 12, 2005 at the church. Memorials may be contributed to First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her three children, Barbara Zimmerman (Jerry) of Paxton, IL, Kay Frahm (Duane) of Grayslake, IL, and Larry Watts (Bev) of Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, Victor Zimmerman (Lori) of Mahomet, IL, Chris Zimmerman also of Mahomet, Jeni Pilcher (Steve) of Wadsworth, IL, Stan Frahm (Jackie) of Salem, WI, Ben Caskey (Meredith) of Iowa City, Andy Watts (Sabrina) of LaSeaur, MN, and Rose Driscoll (John) of Williamsburg; 9 great grandchildren, Luke, Ryan and Noah Zimmerman, Nick and Zach Pilcher, Denver and Logan Frahm, Olivia Caskey and Jack Driscoll. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Albert Evans, her husband, Stanley Watts on November 10, 1986, and a daughter, Sandra McElhenie.
Mary Elizabeth Nicholas was born icon November 24, 1917 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Idwal and Luella Keil Nicholas. She received her education in the Williamsburg schools and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1935. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Coe College, Cedar Rapids. Betty married William Stanley Watts on January 10, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. Besides being a homemaker, she was a teacher for the Dysart High School.
Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, Tri Delta Sorority, Eastern Star, Mariners and a past president of PEO.

John Adam Martin, age 24 of Marengo, died Monday afternoon, September 5, 2005 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City of complications from cystic fibrosis.
Funeral Services; 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 9, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo with Rev. Jerry Rife officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his parents, David and Bonnie Martin, two sisters, Jennifer Gorsch and husband Josh, and Jessica, all of Marengo; his maternal grandmother, Barbara Brown of Marengo, great-grandmother, Lucille Anderson of Coquille, OR; a nephew, John Adam Gorsch and many aunts and uncles.
John Adam Martin was born icon December 20, 1980 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of David and Bonnie Brown Martin. He attended the Marengo schools and was a 1999 graduate of Iowa Valley High School.

Alma C. Stohlmann, age 88 of Williamsburg, died Sunday morning, August 28, 2005 in her home at the Lodge on Lafayette, Marengo following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 31, 2005, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg with Rev. Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at St. Paul Lutheran Fellowship Hall. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a son Duane Stohlmann and wife Jane of Williamsburg; a daughter Marna Durr and husband Steve also of Williamsburg; four grandchildren, Douglas Stohlmann and wife Mary, Joel Stohlmann and wife Jessica, Matthew Durr and wife Theresa and Anna Durr; and four great grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Matthew and Jessica. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Norma Webert and husband Arnold, and Wanda Huedepohl.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Waldo in 1998, a grandson, Paul Stohlmann in 1971 and five brothers, Arnold, Ervin, Milton, Mellen and Orville Schmidt.
Alma Caroline Schmidt was born icon November 11, 1916, in York Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Caroline Sandersfeld Schmidt. She received her education in the York #2 country school, Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School and the Williamsburg High School. She married Waldo Stohlmann on December 15, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Williamsburg. Prior to her marriage she was employed as a housekeeper. Following her marriage she was a homemaker and worked for Holden Seed. She also was assistant manager and later manager of the Crest Hotel. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, flowers, quilting and crocheting. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg and a member of St. Paul Altar Guild for over 30 years.

Marie E. Baumgartel, age 90, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at Colonial Manor Care Center, Middle Amana, following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 20, 2005, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Kristie Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, August 19, 2005 at the Middle Amana Church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Steve and his wife Linda of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Amy Jacobson and husband Shawn, Robert Jeck and wife Cindy, Erin Springer and husband Aaron, and Molly Jones and husband Mark; and two great-grandchildren, Emilie Marie and Jonathan Robert Jacobson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur in 1994, a daughter Marilyn Jeck in 2001, and a brother, Leonard, Jr. in 1997.
Marie Elizabeth Graf was born icon May 1, 1915 in Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard Graf Sr. and Emily Bang Graf. She received her education in the Amana schools and married Arthur C. Baumgartel on November 5, 1938 in Amana. Arthur died on September 3, 1994. Marie was employed at the Amana Woolen Mill and also worked at the Amana Meat Market for many years. She was a member of the Amana Community Church; the Amana Heritage Society; the Amana Arts Guild and was a lifelong member of the AWA. She enjoyed needlepoint, rug crocheting, and baking cakes (Angel Food). She loved being around people.

Erna Sophia Reihmann Pitz, 89, of High Amana passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Middle Amana following a lingering illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 29, 2005 at Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Harold Pitz presiding. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, July 28, 2005 at the Middle Amana Church and on Friday morning prior to the service. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosemarie Geiger and husband Norman of High Amana and Lorraine S. Pitz of Seattle, WA; a son, Harold W. Pitz of High Amana; a grandson Stuart Geiger and wife Amy of Cedar Rapids, a granddaughter, Elaine Geiger O’Keefe of Middle Amana, and great-grandchildren, Hanna, Benjamin and Olivia Geiger, and Allison, Kurtis, and Erin O’Keefe. Also surviving are three nephews, Clarence Reihmann and wife Esther, Harry Hergert and wife Peggy and Ivan Reihmann and wife Darlene, and two nieces Shirley Reihman, and Sandra Reihman Davidson and husband James.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond on December 3, 1971, two sisters, Helene Reihmann and Elenore Hergert, two brothers, William and Harry Reihmann, a beloved great-granddaughter, Emily O’Keefe and a nephew Marvin Hergert.
Erna Sophia Reihmann was born icon June 3, 1916 in Middle Amana, the daughter of Johann Wilhelm and Marie Geyer Reihmann. She received her education in the Middle Amana School and married Raymond Carl Pitz on December 8, 1934 at the High Amana Church. The couple made their home in the paternal family home, where they raised their family. She resided in High Amana until a fall at her home in June of 2000, necessitated her move to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home.
Erna was a devoted lifelong member of the Amana Church Society. She enjoyed some domestic and foreign travel, cooking, baking and gardening. In earlier years she worked at the Die Heimat Inn and the Amana School cafeteria.

Dorothy J. Graesser, age 74 of Middle Amana, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 22, 2005, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Elly Schrodt officiating. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday evening, July 21, 2005 at the Middle Amana Church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a son, Joel Graesser (fiancee’ Hazel Res) of Middle Amana; two daughters, Nancy Graesser of Oxford and Colleen (Kenneth) Langreck of Marengo; six grandchildren, Dustin (Kathy) Langreck of Blairstown, Shannon, Brooke and Brandi Langreck of Marengo, and Jessica and Megan Graesser of Middle Amana; three brothers, Clifford (Caroline) Trumpold, and Richard (Marilyn) Trumpold of Middle, and Henry (Janice) Trumpold of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl on March 23, 2005, and a brother John and his wife Doris.
Dorothy J. Trumpold was born icon May 1, 1931 in Middle Amana, the daughter of Rudolph and Maria Buerkin Trumpold. She received her education in the Amana schools and married Carl E. Graesser on February 24, 1951 at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO. Besides being a homemaker, Dorothy caned chairs for the Amana Furniture Store, worked with fabric at the Amana Woolen Mill and was a housekeeper, greeter, and breakfast server at Dusk to Dawn Bed and Breakfast. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and working word puzzles. She was a member of the Amana Church Society.

Louise K. Selzer, age 94 of Des Moines, formerly of Homestead, died Friday evening, June 17, 2005 at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana, with Elder Peter Hoehnle officiating. Burial will be in the Homestead Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, June 20, 2005 at the Middle Amana Church. Memorial may be contributed to the Charles L. Selzer Scholarship-Clear Creek Amana School, or the Amana Church Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Julie Hall and husband Jerry of Altoona, and Don Carstensen of Des Moines, and two great-grandchildren, Spencer and Hunter Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles “Carl” Selzer in 1988, a daughter, Patricia Carstensen in 1999 and a brother, Theo Kippenhan in 1996.
Louise K. Kippenhan was born icon August 25, 1910 in Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of John and Susanna Hofer Kippenhan. She received her education in the Amana schools and married Charles Louis Selzer on March 9, 1935 at Homestead. Louise worked in the communal kitchens, was a cook at the Ox Yoke Inn and then served as the hostess at the Amana Heim Museum in Homestead. She enjoyed traveling and reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Since 2002, Louise has made her home at the Brookdale Ramsey Home in Des Moines due to failing health.
