Phyllis Gimm

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Phyllis M. Gimm, 73, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2618 Boies Avenue, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. Phyllis died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Phyllis M. Powers was born icon on September 4, 1938, a daughter of Michael and Della (Scharfenberg) Powers. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1956. She was united in marriage to Leo Clarence Gimm on October 4, 1958 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Davenport.
Phyllis was primarily a homemaker, raising her five children, three boys and two girls. A Cub Scout Den and a Girl Scout Troop kept her busy until West Little League came along. Later in life, she worked at many jobs including the Hob Nob Bowling Alley and Kimberly Pines Skate Rink. Phyllis loved bowling and participated in many tournaments. She also enjoyed going to the casino, crocheting, crafts, and traveling with her sisters. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, and the Alter and Rosary Society. Phyllis also enjoyed donating her time and talents to the Salvation Army Christmas Drives.
Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.
Left to honor her memory are her loving husband of 53 years, Leo C. Gimm, Davenport; children and their spouses, Leo (Cindy) Gimm, Davenport; Lisa Brogren, Huntsville, AL; Dale (Theresa) Gimm, Roy (Joy) Gimm, and Christine Gimm, all of Davenport; 16 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; sisters, Margy (Don) Laverenz, Edna Wagner, all of Davenport, and Della (Martin) Andresen, Boiling Springs, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, James Wagner. May they rest in peace.

William Mike Barry

April 4, 1945 - January 5, 2012

Broomfield, Colorado
Graveside Services for William Mike Barry, 66 a resident of Broomfield, CO. formerly of Davenport will be 9:00 A.M. Thursday, January, 12, 2012, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. Michael died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Boulder Community Hospital, Boulder, CO. after a sudden illness. William Michael Barry was born icon April 4, 1945 in Davenport, the son of Walter "Bill" and Ann M. (Sulentic) Barry. Michael attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Assumption High School, Davenport, in 1963. He received his BA in Journalism from the University of Iowa. Mike was a journalist for the Rocky Mountain News for 30 years before retiring.
Michael is survived by his daughter Amy Barry-Wolfer (David), Longmont, CO, a sister Jane Barry, New Jersey, and a brother in law, Jim A. Bobula, Madison, WI. 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Suzanne Colleen (Barry) Bobula. May they rest in peace.

Jane Stromberg

January 3, 2012

Davenport, Iowa
Jane E. Stromberg, 75, a resident of Davenport died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at ManorCare, Utica Ridge, Davenport. Per her wishes cremation rites were accorded and private funeral services were held. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Jane Ellen Schroeder was born icon on August 1, 1936 in Davenport, the daughter of Frank and Florence (May) Schroeder. Jane graduated from Davenport High School and the University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to John P. Stromberg on August 16, 1958 in Davenport.
Jane was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Elks Club. She was a volunteer at the Genesis Hospital Gift Shop and the Davenport Library.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include her husband of almost 54 years, John; two daughters, Susan Stromberg and Sandy Fischer, both of Rock Island; a grandson Christopher Fischer of Rock Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son James Stromberg.

Kay Williams

January 3, 2012

Private Memorial services for, Catherine M. "Kay" Williams, 85, of Rock Island, were held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Honoring her wishes, the rite of cremation has been accorded and inurnment was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Mrs. Williams died Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at her home in Rock Island. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, assisted her family with arrangements.
Catherine Mary Kennedy was born icon February19, 1926 in Davenport, Iowa, to Thomas and Florence (Reineke) Kennedy. She married James E. Williams on Oct. 16, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island. He preceded her in death December 5, 1999.
Kay was a proud and loving grandmother and great-grandmother, hanging all of their many "works of art" throughout her house. Although she didn't drive Kay, loved to go out and spend time with her many friends.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Linda Williams, Rock Island children; a daughter, Judy Ebeling, of Indiana; grandchildren, Jamie and Jennifer Brezette, Evansville, IN and Molly and Abby Williams, Rock Island; two great grandchildren, Ella and Ruby Utley, Evansville, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband James. May they rest in peace.

Timothy M. Dugan

June 2, 1966 - January 10, 2012

Park View, Iowa
ELDRIDGE, Iowa – Timothy M. Dugan, 45, of Park View, died of a heart attack on January 10, 2012 while traveling for business in Baton Rouge, LA. He was born icon on June 2, 1966 in Janesville, WI, the son of Donald and Judy (Hoyer) Dugan. Growing up in Bettendorf, Tim enjoyed camping with family, golfing with friends and learning how to scuba dive. He also developed a strong interest in computers which became a passion he carried through life.
Tim graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1984 and majored in Computer Science at the University of Iowa. He married Nancy Curtis on October 2, 1993 in Davenport. Tim enjoyed his career as a data base administrator and worked for CGI Group in Louisiana. For the past three years he commuted monthly to Baton Rouge where he greatly enjoyed gulf coast culture and made many good friends.
At home in Iowa, Tim enjoyed crafting his own ale and often served as a beer judge for local competitions. An active blogger, he had a strong presence online and maintained a large circle of correspondence. Tim also enjoyed cycling and loved all things that reflected his Irish heritage.
Funeral Services to celebrate Tim's life will be at 11:00 am on January 18, 2012 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on January 17, 2012 at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.
Survivors include his daughter Kaleigh Dugan and son Seán Dugan, his mother Judy Dugan Goodrum (Bryan) of Bettendorf, his brother John Dugan (Julia) of San Carlos, CA, his nieces Jacqueline and Joya and nephew Jacob. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Dugan, and grandparents Edward and Dorothy Dugan and Lyle and Helen Hoyer.
Memorials may be made to the Seán and Kaleigh Dugan Scholarship Fund, 3602 Thunder Ridge Road, Bettendorf, IA 52722.

William Morgart

January 31, 2012

Davenport, Iowa
William J. "Bill" Morgart, 64, a resident of Davenport and formerly of Bettendorf died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Trinity Bettendorf. Bill died following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and other related health issues.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be Noon Friday, February 3, 2012 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division Street, Davenport. Private burial will take place at a later date. Following Bill's wish cremation rites will be accorded after services. The family will greet friends Thursday (today) from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan – McCabe – DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. that all are invited to attend. There will be additional visitation in the gathering space at the church Friday from 10:30 a.m. until Noon.
William John Morgart was born icon March 3, 1947 in Marshalltown, Iowa a son of John Rolla and Letha Jane (Nablo) Morgart. He graduated from South Hamilton High School, Jewel, Iowa, he then attended Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to V.J. "Vera" Sanders on May 29, 1971.
Bill was an entrepreneur; WJM Plastics, Inc. a sales and supply business that provided lamination products, audio visual equipment and office furniture. He was proud to have grown the family business into an international business during his years of ownership.
In earlier years Bill and V.J. were active members of Holy Family Parish and the children attended Holy Family Grade School. Currently they are members of Our Lady of Victory Parish. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 532, and also participated in the K of C golf and bowling league. He also played golf and bowled in other league and club settings.
Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; his other devotion being a dedicated sports fan. He was a Dodger's fan, and cheered both Iowa State University and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Bill will be remembered for his loyalty and devotion to Assumption High School. During his children's years at Assumption and until most recently Bill has attended literally thousands of Assumption sporting events. He was a generous supporter of Assumption both the school and the athletic department. He and V.J. also sponsored and generously supported the foreign exchange program through AHS.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Bill Morgart Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
Those left to honor his memory include, his beloved wife, V.J., children and their spouses, Julie (Scott) Sarra, Centennial, Colorado, Jay (Rodell) Morgart, Bettendorf, Jill (Andrew) Kraut, Davenport, and Joel (Julie) Morgart, Bettendorf; nine grandchildren whom he adored, Audrey, Gavin, Raquel, Ryan, Tyler, Allyssa, Tristan, Amelia, and Lane; his mother, Letha Morgart; brothers, Jerry (Gini) Morgart, Marvin (Dolores) Morgart, sisters, Darlene (Steve) Hamelau, Rose Elsbecker, and Mary (Dennis) Borton; his mother-in-law, Rosina Sanders, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ken (Judy) Sanders, Carl (Diane) Sanders, Gary (Vickie) Sanders, Leroy (Joyce) Sanders, Don (Becky) Sanders, Greg Sanders, Pat (Tom) Brodar, and numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family members Brynjar Sigurdsson, Iceland; Vedran Vukotic, Bosnia; Birte Thomaneck, Germany and Yvon Jadoul, Belgium.
He was preceded in death by his father, a son, and brothers, Vernon and Kevin. May they rest in peace.

Annabella Burdt

December 23, 1919 - April 8, 2012

Davenport, Iowa
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Annabella Burdt, 92, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division St., Davenport. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. There will be a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. to begin the visitation and a family-led rosary at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Annabella passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Annabella Bell was born icon on December 23, 1919 in Rock Island, Illinois, a daughter of William and Minnie (Klett) Bell. She married Eugene Underdonk in 1938. She later married Eldon G. Burdt on June 5, 1974 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1986. Annabella was a graduate of the Rock Island College of Business. She was the secretary to Dr. Billy Grimmer for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Annabella was very active in the community. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the Plus 60 Club, Ladies of the Moose, N.A.R.F., A.A.R.P., the Vikings and the Elks. She was part of the Girl Scouts of America for 20 years and spent 30 years with the Little Theater doing Playcrafters, Masquers, Bettendorf Little Theater and Tent in the Tower. She enjoyed writing poetry and had some of her work published. Bowling, golf, dancing, playing cards and traveling the world were also some of her joys in life.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Call, Port Orange, FL, Beverly McCarty, Davenport, Rebecca (William) McClellan, Davenport, Nancy (Tony) Hogren, Davenport, William (Audrey) Underdonk, Bolingbrook, IL, and daughter-in-law, Lana Underdonk, Davenport, IA, ; 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Grace Holland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon, her parents, son, Lawrence, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers. May they rest in peace.

Dale E. Degen

May 13, 1936 - May 26, 2012

Davenport, Iowa
Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Dale E. Degen, 76, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2618 Boies Avenue, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. There will be a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. and the family will begin to greet friends around 4:30 p.m. Dale passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street surrounded by his family.
Dale Edmund Degen was born icon on May 13, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa, a son of Edmund and Claudean (Montgomery) Degen. He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy in 1955. He was united in marriage to Coral Conard on October 20, 1956 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. They have shared over 56 years of marriage together.
Dale was a fireman with the Davenport Fire Department for 32 years retiring in 1996. He also owned and operated Northwest Davenport Roofing Company. After his retirement, Dale stayed busy working as a ranger at Glynn's Creek Golf Course, Long Grove. He also worked for the Scott County Sheriff's Department in transportation. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Dale enjoyed fishing and golfing. He loved his family and was very proud of his grandchildren. Dale was proud to be a blood donor as well. He was a member of the 12-gallon Club.
Memorials may be made to Birthright of Davenport.
Surviving Dale are his wife, Coral; children, Dawn (Darrell) Harris, Davenport, Kevin (Mary Kay) Degen, Canton, GA, Ann (Vince) Grisham, Buffalo, IA and Brad (Sandie) Degen, Swisher, IA; 11 grandchildren, Chad (Heidi) Harris, Cory Harris, Christina Degen, Cayla Degen, Eric Degen, Justin (Katie) Choate, Joel (Katie) Choate, Ryan Choate, Bryce Grisham, Lance Degen, and Landon Degen; 5 great-grandchildren, Alyse Harris, Carlee Harris, Greyson Choate, Cleary Choate and Keagan Choate; brothers-in-law, Edward "Skip" Conard, Dale (Laurie) Conard, Dennis (Vickie) Conard; and sister-in-law, Claudia (Ray) Mueller, all of Davenport He was preceded in death by his parents. May they rest in peace.
