Bettendorf, Iowa
Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred D. "Mickie" Hughes, 92, a life-long resident of Bettendorf, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th Street, Bettendorf. The family will greet friends Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Mickie died Monday, April 09, 2012, at Bettendorf Healthcare Center, Bettendorf. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements. Mildred Dorothy Malik was born icon on January 15, 1920 in Muscatine, Iowa, a daughter of Joseph and Alberta (Pruden) Malik. She married Edward Joseph Hughes on August 12, 1939 in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1995.
Mickie was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church; and volunteered at CASI and Luther Manor. She enjoyed playing bingo, singing and playing the accordion, but her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family and cherished canine companion, "Brandy". In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Mickie is survived by her children; Edward J. (Sandy) Hughes, DeWitt, Gerald L. (Judy) Hughes, of Arizona, Roger W. (Marilyn) Hughes, Davis, IL, Steve A. (Phyllis) Hughes Bettendorf, and Jeffery L. (Mickey) Hughes, Davenport; 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward, son Randy Hughes on August 10, 1971 and son Preston D. Hughes on February 26, 2009. May they rest in peace.

William Organ

William V. Organ, 56, a resident of Davenport, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park, Davenport.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
William V. Organ was born icon on May 31, 1955 in Davenport, a son of Vernon V. and Helen (Heims) Organ. He was a graduate of West High School and attended Iowa State University. During high school he had worked at Geifman's Food Store.
Will enjoyed reading, and in his younger years participated in the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his uncle and aunt, Elmer and Connie Heims, Davenport; and numerous cousins.
Will was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary Frances Callaghan

June 4, 1912 - April 8, 2012

Davenport, Iowa
Mary Frances Callaghan, 99, a resident of the Kahl Home, Davenport, died Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the Kahl Home, Davenport.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Frances will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, Davenport. Burial will take place in Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 until the time of the Mass in the Parish Center at the church. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary Frances Kehoe was born icon on June 4, 1912 in Davenport, a daughter of Martin T. and Mary (O'Neill) Kehoe. She was united in marriage to Bill Barloon, founder/owner of the Quad City Credit Bureau, on September 17, 1955 in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1959. Mary Frances later married Paul Callaghan on November 9, 1963 in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Mary Frances was an avid reader, staying up on current events and politics. She enjoyed traveling, especially with her sister, Ellen. They've made trips all over the United States and Europe, most memorably Ireland.
Mary Frances is survived by her niece, Mary Lou (Harold) Hall, Davenport; step-son, Dr. James (Shirley) Barloon, Overland Park, Kansas; and numerous loving great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sisters: Neoma Forbes, Ellen Schlueter, Dorothy Jean Bennett, and Agnes Kehoe. May they rest in peace.

Delores Bates

December 22, 2011

East Moline, Illinois
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Delores H. Bates, 83, a resident of East Moline, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 26, 2011 at Faith United Church of Christ, 1630 W. 38th Street, Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 until the time of the service Monday at the church. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mrs. Bates died Wednesday, December 22, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park Campus.
Delores H. Leonhardi was born icon on August 24, 1928 in Rock Island, a daughter of Arthur and Lydia (Schumacher) Leonhardi. She was united in marriage to Donald Power in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1967. She later was united in marriage to Jerry W. Bates in 1975.
Delores owned and operated Dondee Beauty Shop on West Locust. She was the first woman member of the Northwest Businessman's Association. Delores also was a self-employed cosmetologist at the Kahl Home for many years.
Delores was a charter member of Faith United Church of Christ, and remained very active there. She also was a member of the Rock Island Arsenal Historical Society, and the Blackhawk Gem and Mineral Association.
Memorials may be made to Faith United Church of Christ.
Delores is survived by her husband, Jerry, Quincy; children, Gloria Power, Davenport and Kenneth (Sandy) Power, East Moline; a granddaughter, Keisha Power, Davenport; nieces, Connie Greve, Roselle, IL and Nina Dorsch, Lebanon, IL; nephews, Glenn Boggs, Burbank, CA and Larry Boggs, San Rafael, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents, a brother, Willis Leonhardi, and a sister, Marvyl Boggs.

Annabella Burdt

December 23, 1919 - April 8, 2012

Davenport, Iowa
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Annabella Burdt, 92, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division St., Davenport. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. There will be a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. to begin the visitation and a family-led rosary at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Annabella passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Annabella Bell was born icon on December 23, 1919 in Rock Island, Illinois, a daughter of William and Minnie (Klett) Bell. She married Eugene Underdonk in 1938. She later married Eldon G. Burdt on June 5, 1974 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1986. Annabella was a graduate of the Rock Island College of Business. She was the secretary to Dr. Billy Grimmer for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Annabella was very active in the community. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the Plus 60 Club, Ladies of the Moose, N.A.R.F., A.A.R.P., the Vikings and the Elks. She was part of the Girl Scouts of America for 20 years and spent 30 years with the Little Theater doing Playcrafters, Masquers, Bettendorf Little Theater and Tent in the Tower. She enjoyed writing poetry and had some of her work published. Bowling, golf, dancing, playing cards and traveling the world were also some of her joys in life.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Call, Port Orange, FL, Beverly McCarty, Davenport, Rebecca (William) McClellan, Davenport, Nancy (Tony) Hogren, Davenport, William (Audrey) Underdonk, Bolingbrook, IL, and daughter-in-law, Lana Underdonk, Davenport, IA, ; 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Grace Holland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon, her parents, son, Lawrence, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers. May they rest in peace.

Mary E. "Abby" Priester

October 6, 1925 - May 6, 2012

Bettendorf, Iowa
Mary Elizabeth Priester passed away at Genesis Medical Center on May 6, 2012, drawing the curtain on a long and happy life devoted to family, friends and faith.
Born October 6, 1925 to Anne and Robert Feeney in Davenport, Iowa, Mary was the oldest of 5 children. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy and Marycrest College.
Mary was a talented actress. For her senior project, she performed a one-person show of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. She pursued graduate studies in acting at Fordham. In the late 1950's she and a group of friends formed the Straw Hat Players, a theatre company that performed in the Quad-Cities. (Her nickname Abby came from a character in a play with the Straw Hat Players). She appeared in local and national television commercials in the 1970's. Mary taught the love and craft of acting to her children, grandchildren, and to many others through her Creative Dramatics classes.
Mary's passion in life was peace and social justice. She served on committees in the 1950's to address racial inequality in the Quad Cities. Her desire for social justice led her to be active in politics supporting candidates that shared her view of compassion and equality. Mary served as a delegate to the State Democratic Convention in 1976. Mary was a social worker in Davenport where she tried to help people experiencing difficulties in life. She also lived her beliefs by visiting friends in the hospital, bringing food to those grieving, and giving support to those in need.
After a brief courtship, Mary joined Patrick Priester in marriage on October 18, 1953 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Davenport. Through this union Mary and Pat navigated the beautiful and difficult moments of life; setting an example of a strong and balanced partnership for their children.
She is survived by sons Emmett (Debi) of Bettendorf; Patrick of St. Paul, Minnesota; Joseph (Monique Fleming) of Manhattan Beach, California; Paul (Katherine) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; John (Teresa Vens) of Des Moines, Iowa; and Dan and Michael of Bettendorf. Grandma Mary will be missed by the following grandchildren: Erin Paysen and Casey Priester; Caitlin Featherstone-Priester, Paul, and Margaret Priester; Aidan and Alexander Vens; Daniel, Joshua and David Priester; Gina Acree; and her newest grandchild- Lilia Joy Priester born icon on May 1, 2012. Each of these grandchildren gave her immense joy. Mary is also survived by her loyal and faithful siblings: Joseph Michael Feeney (Carol) and Jean Marie Glancy.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Patrick, her daughters Little Louise and Maria Acree, and brothers Robert and Thomas.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, 820 West Central Park Avenue, Davenport, IA 52804-1900 to continue Mary's quest to help the poor and the powerless.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Mary shall be on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th Street, Bettendorf. Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Per Mary's wishes, cremation rites were accorded.

Mary Barbara Toohey

June 30, 1928 - May 26, 2012

Moline, Illinois
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Barbara Toohey, 83, a resident of Moline, will be Friday, June 01, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3205 – 60th Street, Moline. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the end of the visitation on Thursday. There will be additional visitation on Friday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Mary Barb passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mary Barbara Kubik was born icon on June 30, 1928 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of George and Libbie (Greazel) Kubik. She married Barton J. "Bart" Toohey on March 8, 1951 in Iowa City.
Mary Barb was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, Women at the Well, the Catholic Service Board, where she was a past president, and P.E.O. Chapter of F.J. She enjoyed shopping, baking and devoting her time to helping others.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christ the King Catholic Church, Assumption High School or the Kahl Home Building Fund.
Surviving Mary Barb are her husband, Bart and their children; Matthew Michael (Karen) Toohey, Winnebago, IL, Mary Catherine (Edward) Gerlach, Eatontown, NJ, and James Barton (Catherine) Toohey, Bettendorf, IA; 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Sean, and Colin Toohey, Victoria and Patrick Gerlach and Erin and Andrew Toohey; 2 great-grandchildren, Haylie and Cullen Toohey; her sister, Margaret (Dale) Seydel, Iowa City, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. May they rest in peace.

Betty Carr

May 31, 2012

Bettendorf, Iowa
Betty Jean (Lown) Carr passed from this life to her eternal life at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, on Thursday, May 31, 2012, from complications of Diabetes and Liver Cancer. Betty was born icon June 16, 1952 to Fred and Phyllis Lown in Perry Michigan. Betty was united in marriage to Gerald Carr on June 21, 1985. The family has abided by Betty's wishes with a private family service and burial at the National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL.
Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bettendorf and the Moline American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her father, Fred Lown, daughter, Colista (Chad) Coulter, sisters, Mary Jo Crist and family, Sandra (Ronald) Krambeck and family, stepsons, Craig and Kevin Carr and their families and her caregiver and friend, Cindy Beattie and her family.
To meet her in heaven is her mother, Phyllis and husband, Gerald, who passed in February of 2012. May they rest in peace.
