Mary Jane Schroeder

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Jane Schroeder, 89, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will take place in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with a prayer service to begin the visitation at 4:00 p.m. There will be additional visitation Tuesday at the church from 10:00 until 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Schroeder died Friday, January 6, 2012 at Crest Health Center, Davenport.
Mary Jane Collins was born icon on January 11, 1922, a daughter of William and Vera (Hass) Collins. She was united in marriage to Everett L. Schroeder on December 18, 1943 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Davenport. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2002. They shared 59 years of marriage together.
Mary Jane served as secretary to the science department at St. Ambrose College for close to 20 years. She was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Chuch. Mary Jane cherished the time she spent with her family, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Everett after they retired, loved to play cards, and was a diehard Cubs fan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church or the Handicapped Development Center.
Mrs. Schroeder is survived by her children and their spouses, Jill and John Guenther, Davenport, Jack and Julie Schroeder, New Port Richey, FL., and Bill Schroeder and Debi Graham-Schroeder, Davenport; grandchildren, Gina (Mrs. Peter) Loken, Matthew De Wulf, Laurie (Mrs. John) Twitchell, Ashley Graham-Schroeder, Angel (Mrs. Michael) Skram, Wendy (Mrs. John) Cooke, and Sandra Thompson; step-grandchildren, Todd Guenther and Vicki Guenther; and great-grandchildren, Lauren and Madeline Loken, Gabriele, Aiden, and Addison Twitchell, Taylor and Payton Thompson, Juliette Cooke, and Ryan and Taylor Guenther; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Evans, East Moline; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; a son, Mark on August 11, 1979; her parents, and sisters, Shirley Stroben and Marjorie Furchbrich. May they rest in peace.

Marvin Eberline

January 6, 2012

Park View, Iowa
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Marvin R. Eberline, 76, a resident of Park View, Iowa, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 in the All Faith Chapel at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.
Marvin passed away Friday, January 6, 2012, with his family by his side, as a result of complications from surgery.
He was born icon on July 19, 1935 in Abingdon, IL, a son of George and Rosella (Wonick) Eberline. He was united in marriage to Joretta L. Hickle in Carthage, IL on July 31, 1961.
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Penny (Jeff) Ploog, Davenport; sons: Scott (Lisa) Eberline, Donahue, and Dan Eberline, Park View; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene "Patty" Eberline, Davenport.
Marvin was a beautician for many years before going back to school to fulfill a life-long dream of becoming a nurse. Prior to his wife's passing in 2010, Marvin was her caregiver for many years, showing the love and dedication few marriages would ever know. Marvin loved spending time with his family and playing the slots at the casinos. His family was everything to him and he loved them with all his heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Joretta, his parents, grandparents, brother, Merle Eberline, and a sister Marion Duree.
The family wants to thank Pastor Bob Bartel and Pastor Pete Hoft, Dr. James Darrow, Dr. Kovach, Dr. Augelli, and all the other doctors and medical staff that helped Marvin along his journey.
Memorials may be made to the family or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Lucille Wulf

Davenport, Iowa
Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Lucille P. Wulf, 98, a longtime resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1506 Brown St. Bettendorf. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 6, at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport. The family invites you to join them in a Rosary Service to be held in the funeral home on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until service time. Lucille died Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012 at the Kahl Home after a brief illness.
She was born icon September 27, 1913 in Bettendorf, the 14th of 15 children of Pius and Henrietta (Bueckler) Mohr. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes School and Brown's Business School. She worked at Davis Greenhouses in Bettendorf and spent 51 years at Mohr Implement in Bettendorf and Eldridge, Iowa. Lucille was united in marriage to Raymond Wulf in 1973. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Bettendorf, where she was a member for many years.
Survivors include her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her siblings: Olive Mohr, Eugene Mohr, Sylvester Mohr, Edwin Mohr, Spirodome Mohr, Vincent Mohr, twin brothers; Hubert Mohr and Rev. Herbert Mohr, F.H. "Jack" Mohr, Marie Mohr, Tony Mohr, Clarence "Babe" Mohr, Margaret Ritter and Geraldine Stiles and a special friend Vernon Organ. May they rest in peace.

Judy Masat

Davenport, Iowa
Funeral services and a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Judith A. Masat, 72, a resident of Davenport will be 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Friday, January 6, 2012, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division Street, Davenport. Inurnment will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Her family will greet friends Friday at church in the Gathering Space from 11:00 a.m. until service time at noon. Honoring her wish the rite of cremation was accorded. Mrs. Masat passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 2, 2012 at her home in Davenport. The Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Judith Ann Donkle was born icon April 22, 1939 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin a daughter of Milton and Jean (Fish) Donkle. She was united in marriage to Robert Masat on June 27, 1964 in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Judy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from St. Louis University. She had been a Physical Therapist at the Good Samaritan Center, Davenport retiring in 2006. She was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Victory and a member of the Knitters Guild. She taught Dog Obedience classes at Scott Community College and was a volunteer at Rick's House of Hope.
Memorials may be made to Rick's House of Hope.
Those left to honor her memory include her beloved husband of 47 years, Robert and their children, a daughter, Laura (Eric) teDuits, Madison, WI; a son, Jim (Christine) Masat, Davenport; six grandchildren; Drew, Noah, Payton, Truman and Anna teDuits and Justine Baumer; a sister, Rosemary (Vern) Schaller, Rhinelander, WI; her brothers, Jim (Ellen) Donkle, Milwaukie, OR, Mike (Donna) Knipp, Newville, WI, Harry (Maryanne) Knipp, Racine, WI, Charlie (Beulah) Knipp, Madison, WI, and Dan Dixon, Newville, WI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Josh Masat, and a sister-in-law.

John E. Chebuhar, Sr.

January 3, 2012

Bettendorf, Iowa
Funeral services to celebrate the life of John E. Chebuhar, Sr., 95, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be additional visitation Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Mr. Chebuhar died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf surrounded by his loving family.
John Edward Chebuhar was born icon on July 12, 1916 at home in Rathbun, Iowa of Julius Frank Chebuhar and Mary (Kozelicki) Chebuhar
He married Frances Sophia Tomich of Rock Island on July 27, 1940 in Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island. He and Frances had been childhood friends in Rathbun. During her illness, John was a faithful caregiver to his wife of 64 years. Frances preceded him in death on November 11, 2004.
As a teen, he worked as a coalminer and farm hand. He then moved to Chicago working as a road builder, gardener, landscaper, ironworker, and welder. He served in the US Navy. He worked at JI Case and Alcoa where he retired after 22 years as a mill mechanic. In retirement he was a dry cleaning business handyman, and was always ready to lend a hand around the neighborhood. He could fix anything mechanical, and one of his favorite quips was "what's the matter, are those left-handed threads?"
He loved to hunt and fish, was an avid woodworker, and was a master gardener, as anyone who remembers his early July tomatoes can tell you. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of Local 105 Steelworker Union and the Croatian Crest Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or to a favorite charity.
He is survived by his children; Patricia Farquhar, Beaumont, CA, John (Debbie) Jr, and Philip, all of LeClaire; his grandchildren; Christine (James) Hart, Roseberg, OR, Julie Ann (Kirk) Hepburn, Chicago and Eve (Jed) Parker, Rexberg, ID; and his great-grandchildren; Benjamin (Miranda), Michael, Thomas, and Sarah Hart. He is also survived by his nephews; Richard Segers, John Churuvia, Robert Tomich, and nieces; Sheron Blazina, Marilyn Mallary, Christine Dossing, Jean Baird, Joan Sobol, Julie Bitner, and Mary Cae Nutting.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, his parents, siblings, Olga Blazina, Mary Sobel, Vincent and Julius Chebuhar; and an infant great-grandson, Patrick. May they rest in peace.

Jean Knight

July 12, 1925 - December 31, 2011

Rock Island, Illinois
Jean K. Knight, 86, a resident of Rock Island, Illinois and a former longtime resident of Davenport died Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Trinity Medical West Campus, Rock Island. She was surrounded by her loving family, dying from a sudden illness.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division Street, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Halligan – McCabe – DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. There will be additional visitation Tuesday in the Gather Space at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
Jean Katherine Oliver was born icon July 12, 1925 in Fairfield, Iowa a daughter of Henry and Virginia (Roth) Oliver. She attended the University of Iowa and received a teaching degree.
She was united in marriage to Albert P. Knight on June 7, 1947, in Fairfield, IA.
Mrs. Knight had been a property manager in Davenport for many years. Although outside of her employment, her greatest achievement in her eyes was her loving family. She cherished the time spent with her husband, children and grandchildren, and adored her great grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan, Illinois.
Those left to honor her memory include her beloved husband of 64 years, Albert Knight, Rock Island, children, Karen K. Knight, Davenport; and Steve and Gretta Knight, Moline, Illinois; six grandchildren, Virginia (Derrick) Cress, Gabriel (Jenny) Knight, Charles (Abbie) Knight, Thomas (fiancée Megan Campana) Knight, Carly Knight and Corey Knight; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Thomas Knight, 1994, and a sister, Kay Poole. May they rest in peace.

Thomas Sharpe

October 21, 1958 - December 17, 2011

Davenport, Iowa
Funeral services and a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas M. Sharpe, 53, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, downtown Davenport. His family will greet friends Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, where a prayer service will be offered at 4:00 p.m. Thomas passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer. Honoring his wishes the rite of cremation was accorded.
Thomas Matthew Sharpe was born icon on October 21, 1958 in West Des Moines, Iowa, to William L. and Carole J. (Wiese) Sharpe. He was united in marriage to Marie Frandsen on September 1, 2011.
Thomas had worked as a locomotive engineer at HARSCO Metals. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and a good cigar.
Memorials may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation of Iowa or a favorite children's charity.
Thomas is survived by his wife Marie of Davenport ; his son, William C. Sharpe, San Antonio, TX ; Maries sons, Nate (Jennifer) Frandsen and Andrew Frandsen all of Davenport; a brother Tim Sharpe (Linda Gibbs), West Des Moines; two sisters, Jill Greer and Julie (Otto) Nobis, all of Davenport, as well as numerous other loving extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents. May they rest in peace.

Charles Michael Glowacki

DIED: November 29, 2011

LOCATION: Chevy Chase, MD
Charles Michael Glowacki, 20, a resident of Chevy Chase, Maryland, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 29, 2011.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada Street N.W., Washington, D.C. The family will greet friends Saturday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved parents, Tony and Trish (Figge) Glowacki, Chevy Chase, MD.; a sister, Beth Glowacki, a brother, George Glowacki; grandmother, Patricia J. Figge; and countless other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Genevieve Glowacki; and John Kahl Figge.
Local memorials can be made to the Figge Art Museum.
