Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Robert G. “Bob” Ott, 84, a resident of Davenport will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. The family invites you to join them for a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. to conclude the visitation.
Bob passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center – West Central Park, Davenport. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
Robert George Ott was born icon July 30, 1926 in Traer, Iowa a son of Harnold H. and Elizabeth C. (Till) Ott. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry European Theatre during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mary C. Hood on August 28, 1948 in Davenport. Bob retired from St. Luke’s Hospital (Genesis Medical Center – East Rusholme Street) following 30 years of service as the Business Manager.
Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Scott County Genealogical Society, Veteran of Foreign Wars, 94th Infantry Division Association, Combat Infantry Association, Elks, and an associate of the Humility of Mary. Bob was a tireless volunteer throughout his life. He had a very special place in his heart for the Handicapped Development Center, where he had served on the HDC Board and as President of the HDC Booster Organization. He was often referred to as the “Nut Man, ” because of his dedication to the annual HDC Nut Sale.
Bob enjoyed staying active by playing golf, walking, and bike riding. He had special interest in genealogy. Bob and Mary enjoyed traveling and had shared many trips, they especially enjoyed time spent in southern Kentucky with family at the lake. He cherished the time spent with his family, and loved to be with the grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Handicapped Development Center.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary, sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom and Jill Ott, Nokomis, Florida, Dave Ott, Davenport, Steve Ott (and Laurie Denison), Bettendorf; and a daughter, Jane Ott, Davenport; grandchildren, Carrie (Jerry) Devine, Davenport, Ryan Ott, New Haven, CT, Buffy (Tim) O’Neill, Davenport, Jami Ott Sergeant, Louisville, Kentucky, Jodi Ott, Bettendorf, Kara Ott, Chicago, and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harold Ott, and a sister Betty Jane Ott. May they rest in peace.

Robert Overholt

DIED: June 14, 2011

LOCATION: Davenport, IA
Robert M. “Bob” Overholt, 66, a resident of Davenport, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Davenport. There will be a local gathering for family and friends to celebrate Robert’s life on Saturday, June 25th at 2:00 p.m. at the Oceanside Lounge, 2025 Hickory Grove Road, Davenport. Following Bob’s wishes his visitation and burial will take place in his hometown of Kenyon, MN. There will be a visitation Monday, June 20, 2011, at the Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Kenyon Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Kenyon V.F.W. Honor Guard. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport, is assisting the family with local arrangements.
Robert Malcolm Overholt was born icon November 30, 1944 in Kenyon, Minnesota to Leon James and Ethel Esther (Steinberg) Overholt. He graduated from Kenyon High School and attended college at Mankato State. Bob was proud to have served in the U.S. Army Reserves for seven years.
He was united in marriage Marianne L. Bell on February 27, 1998.
He had been a maintenance engineer for the Davenport Family YMCA and St. Ambrose University.
He was a talented woodworker, and enjoyed building birdhouses. He cherished the time spent with his wife and friends at the Oceanside. He also enjoyed riding bikes and riding and working on his Whizzer.
Memorials can be made to Assumption High School, Davenport, or Good Samaritan Society, Davenport, or the Kenyon VFW Honor Guard.
Those left to honor Robert’s memory include his wife, Marianne Bell-Overholt, Davenport; brothers, Richard Overton, Kenyon, MN, and James (Pat) Overholt, Chico, CA; sister-in-law, Karen Overholt, Park Rapids, MN; mother-in-law, Mary Joanne Bell, Davenport; Brothers-in-law, Dick (Beth) Bell, Eugene, OR, and Ed Bell, Naperville, IL; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Mike) Gurvey, Glenview, IL., Geralyn (Tim) Frazer and Theresa (Joe) Devine, all of Davenport, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tommy Overholt, father-in-law, Charles Bell and sister-in-law, Mona Bell. May they all rest in peace.
The family would like to thank the staff at Good Samaritan, Genesis Family Medical Center, Dr. William Davidson and Genesis Medical Center – West Campus for their loving care these past two months.

Gene Bleuer

DIED: June 15, 2011

LOCATION: Rock Island, IL
Gene Bleuer, 81, a resident of Rock Island died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Gene’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, Illinios. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19th, with a prayer service at 3:30 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Additional visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass begins. Burial at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 246.
Gene Kenneth Bleuer was born icon July 2, 1929 in Rock Island, Illinois a son of James Kenneth Murray and C. Adele (Haines) Bleuer. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he spent time as a prisoner of war. He was united in marriage to Alice Larson in 1951, from this union his daughter Nancy was born. He later married Joan E. Sievers who preceded him in death in 2004. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Jackie Christopher in 2005.
Gene was a graduate of St. Ambrose College with a degree in math and physics. He was the manager of production operations at IH Farmall Works retiring in 1986. He was an avid football fan especially Notre Dame, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Bears; and a diehard Cubs fan. He loved to travel and Ireland was a favorite as well as cruises in the Baltic and Mediterrean. Gene was an accomplished artist in oil painting. He was past president of the local chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association, and the president of the IH Farmall Retirees Club.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to, Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, St. Ambrose University or St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife Jackie Christopher; his loving daughter Nancy (Betsy Demarest) Bleuer-Demarest, Taylor Ridge; 3 grandchildren Mackenzie, Wyatt and Khloe; brothers Jim (Doris) Murray, Geneseo, and Don Murray, Hampton; mother-in-law Helen Christopher, Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Betty.

Cathleen "Kate" Heuer

DIED: June 12, 2011

LOCATION: Davenport, IA
Cathleen A. “Kate” Heuer, 50, a resident of Davenport, died Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Kate will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, June 17, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, Davenport. Cremation rites will follow services with a private family inurnment in Davenport Memorial Park.
Cathleen Anderson McFedries was born icon on August 5, 1960 in Davenport, a daughter of John “Scotty” and Jean (Conn) McFedries. She was a 1978 graduate of Central High School.
Kate was a self-employed real estate broker for over 20 years, and was licensed in Arizona, Illinois, and Iowa. She was also an auctioneer, helping out at her family’s business, Scotty’s Auction Service. She enjoyed doing benefit auctions for numerous non-profits for 13 years.
Kate was a beautiful person, both inside and out. She had a free and spontaneous spirit, often planning extensive trips on the morning of. Kate lived her life to the fullest and was always optimistic and giving. She was devoted to her faith and served as a lector at St. Anthony’s Church. Kate was an animal lover, and would go out of her way to rescue animals in need. She had a beautiful, loving relationship with her husband Jeff. Above all, she adored her five children, and gave them her unconditional love.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Care and Share, Fr. Conroy’s Vineyard, or to the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities.
Kate is survived by her husband, Jeff, Davenport; children, Nicholas (fiancé, Caroline Rosen), Miami, FL, Whitney, Los Angeles, CA, Millie, Iowa City, Sonny, Los Angeles, CA, and Scotty, Davenport; her mother, Jean McFedries, Bettendorf, her father, John “Scotty” McFedries, Davenport; a sister, Jennifer McFedries, Beverly Hills, CA; a brother, Norman (Dorothy) McFedries, Davenport; special friends, Joseph Lavian, Sandy Carrillo, Violetta Cordoba, and Phil Scott; numerous nieces and nephews; and her canine companions, Charlie Brown, Stella Mae, and Baby Boluga, and a rabbit, Delilah.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Agnes McFedries-Kennedy in 2007.
The Heuer’s would like to thank Dr. Jayesh Mehta and Dr. Liz Voight at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for the love and care they gave to Kate. They also would like to thank Julie Skalak, who gave Kate the incredible gift of a kidney.

Louise F. Janes, 89, formerly of 1810 E. Court Street, Iowa City, died Wednesday, January 2, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2002, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 30 N. Clinton Street, Iowa City, with the Reverend Bruce W. Fischer, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ, Neighborhood Houses of St. Louis, or the nature group of the donor’s choice. Louise F. Janes was born icon January 9, 1912 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Albert Jules and Harriett Louise (Haywood) Fricker. She attended school in Pittsfield and later Bangor, Maine and Erie, Pennsylvania. She graduated from high school in Detroit and studied fashion design. She had worked in a ladies fashion store for a couple of years and was then employed as a switchboard operator. She was united in marriage to Dr. Ralph G. Janes on December 14, 1940 in Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1941. In 1952 they had the opportunity to move to England with their families and live and work for one year in an exchange program. She had been employed for many years as a secretary for Professor G. Edgar Folk in the Department of Physiology at the University of Iowa. Louise had a wonderful zest for life and a real appreciation of her family and close friends. She was an active member of the Congregational Church, had been a Girl Scout leader, participated in a local French Conversation Group, had been involved in the International Student Center, a gourmet cooking club, was interested in various political issues and had maintained a round robin letter between school friends for seventy years. Louise Janes is survived by her daughter, Connie L. Armstrong and her husband, Otis of Muscatine, hr son, Gilbert A. Janes and his wife, Donna of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren, Brooke Armstrong, Geoffrey and Gregory Janes. She wa\s preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Albert J. Fricker.

Judy Lindner

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Judith A. "Judy" Lindner, 70, a resident of Davenport, will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 14th and Brown Streets, Bettendorf. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Sheffield, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport where the family invites you to join them for a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. There will be additional visitation Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Judy died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Judith Ann Driessens was born icon March 24, 1942 in Kewanee, Illinois, a daughter of Julius and Doris (DePauw) Driessens. Judy was united in marriage to Julius Henry "Jul" Lindner on September 1, 1984 in First Federated Church, Peoria, Illinois.
Judy worked as a legal secretary for 20 years while raising her family. In 1996, she earned a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Marycrest College at the age of 54. She put her education to work for Just Kids Day Care Center, Milan. During her career, she was also a tireless volunteer for Birthright in Davenport.
Judy was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish. She had also spent many years facilitating prayer meetings for the National Organization Contemplative Outreach Ltd., Cursillo Prayer Group, Emmaus Prayer Group, Centering Prayer Support Group, and Christian Experience Weekend. Judy enjoyed reading, especially scripture, playing bridge, bike riding, walking, and traveling. In 2000, she and Jul traveled to the Vatican in Rome as volunteers for the Jubilee celebration.
Judy was devoted to her faith and her family. When she and Jul became grandparents, they started "Kuzin Kamp". The grandchildren stayed at their home for a week full of fun activities that Jul and Judy had planned for them including Our Lady of Lourdes VBS. This was not only a favorite time for Grandma and Grandpa, but the parents too!
In addition to her loving husband Jul, she is survived by her children, Bradley (Lori) Miller, Norwalk, IA, Jennifer (Joe) Guthrie, Lombard, IL, Andrea (George) Johnson, Norwalk, IA; her stepchildren, Bradley (Jackie) Lindner, Lawrence, KS, Andrew (Amanda) Lindner, Ketchikan, AK, Julie (Jeff) Darko, Mapleton, IL. Fourteen wonderful grandchildren, Collin and Camille Miller, Grace, Joey and Hannah Guthrie, Geordie, Gabe and Allison Johnson, Nicholas Guerrero and Allie Lindner, Becker Lindner, Ryan and Nathan Darko and Jenna Brown; a sister and brother-in-law, Anna Mae (Max) Johnson, Prophetstown, IL, and a brother-in-law, Gary Gerken, Columbus, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gerri Gerken. May they rest in peace.

Robert Scheppler

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Robert W. Scheppler, 57, a resident of Madison, Alabama formerly of Davenport, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 - 18th Street, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Scheppler died on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his home in Madison, Alabama.
Robert William Scheppler was born icon March 31, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Robert H. and Jayne (Linhardt) Scheppler. He had worked as a pilot for many years.
He was united in marriage to Heather Joy Williams on December 3, 1981.
Memorials are suggested to either St. John Vianney Catholic Church or the American Stroke Foundation.
Survivors to honor his memory include his wife, Heather and their son, Robert L. Scheppler, Madison, Alabama; his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Ralph Glaser, Chesterfield, Missouri, niece, Melissa Reidelberger, sisters-in-law Diane Macdonalle and Star Conley, and brothers-in-law Robert Williams and Blair Williams and their families.
His parents and a sister Judith Ann Scheppler preceded him in death. May they rest in peace.

Lynne Allen

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Lynne S. Allen, 57, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 – 18th Street, Bettendorf. Burial will take place at St. Ann's Cemetery, Long Grove. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. There will be an additional visitation from 9:00 until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Surrounded by family, Lynne passed away peacefully on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines.
Lynne Suzanne Carlson was born icon on January 1, 1955 in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of R. Wesley and Lola (Mimbach) Carlson. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in Business Administration. Lynne was united in marriage to Andrew Allen on July 1, 2011. She was previously married to Jeffrey Duffy on December 20, 1975.
Lynne worked for the North Scott Community School District as an administrative assistant to business affairs. Prior to that, she was the parish administrative assistant at St. Ann's in Long Grove.
Lynne loved being with her family, especially spending time with her young grandchildren. She enjoyed walking, running, biking, and other outdoor activities. Lynne was active with various school activities and booster clubs at North Scott Community High School. She enjoyed the friendship of many and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Lynne is survived by her husband, Andrew, Bettendorf; children and their spouses: Jann and Matt Robie, Ankeny, Iowa, Erin and Matt Horst, Statesboro, Georgia, and Matt Duffy, Eldridge, Iowa; a step-daughter, Kristin Allen, Eldridge, Iowa; grandchildren: Lucas, Nicholas, and Jackson Robie; Mallory, Creighton, and Brant Horst; her parents: R. Wesley and Lola Carlson, Humboldt, Iowa; brothers: Terry (Pert) Carlson, California, Tom (Tina) Carlson, Wisconsin, and Todd (Sara) Carlson, Iowa; mother-in-law, LaVerne Klima, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Andrea (Mike) Mann, Illinois, and Carol Schobert, North Carolina, and her loving extended family.
She was preceded in death by her brother Tim Carlson.
