Stefl, Emma
Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery
Emma Stefl, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, September 26, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 30 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, with Rev. Blair Frank officiating. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids.
Emma was born
April 15, 1917 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John Pesina and Emma Zadina. She married Milton Frank Stefl August 31, 1940 in Cedar Rapids. Emma was a homemaker, caring for her home and family. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and CSA Lodge.
Emma is survived by a daughter Carolyn Wilson of Hopkinton; two sons John (Marlys) Stefl of Runnells, and David (Julie) Stefl of Grundy Center; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Milton, who died October 29, 2003.
A memorial fund has been established.
Sanborn, Mardelle Irene
Cemetery: Czech National Cemetery
Mardelle Sanborn, 83, of Cedar Rapids passed Wednesday afternoon, September 28, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids after a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 3, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids. Interment will follow at Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 on Sunday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids.
Mardelle was born
on July 31, 1922 in Mount Auburn, Iowa the daughter of Edwin and Genevieve (Hains) Anderson. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. Mardelle married Floyd Sanborn on May 17, 1938. Mardelle enjoyed her grandchildren, working word puzzles, and The Enquirer and Star Magazines. She also liked to go camping and fishing. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years Floyd Sanborn of Cedar Rapids; children Sandra (Don) McArtor of Cedar Rapids, Patricia (Ron) Porazil of Belle Plaine, Roxanne (Dennis) Scofield of Solon, and Michael (Kathy) Sanborn of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister Lois Beebe of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her mother Genevieve Anderson Voracek, father Edwin Anderson, step father Tony Voracek, a sister Doris Whiting, infant son Terry, and a granddaughter Sherri Null.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Mercy – 701 10th Street SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403.
Gause, Robert Edward
Cemetery: Friends Cemetery ~ Lynnville, IA
Robert Edward “Bob” Gause, 70, of Swisher died Thursday evening at the Solon Nursing Care Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday October 17, 2005 at the Shueyville United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Carver, officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at Friends Cemetery, rural Lynnville. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids.
Bob was born
on November 23, 1934 in Lynnville the son of Afton and Ruth Husband Gause. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He graduated from Texas Wesleyan College and received a Masters Degree from the University of Iowa. On August 20, 1960 he married Jimmie Ann Jennings at San Angelo, Texas. Bob was a longtime educator. He was also a member of Shueyville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years Jimmie Ann of Swisher; son Steve (Kyra) Gause of Omaha, Nebraska; daughters Kathy Gause of Conroe, Texas, and Susan (Craig) Long of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; grandchildren Claire and Spencer Gause; and a sister Alice Gause of West Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial fund has been established for the Friends of the Swisher Library Fund and the Shueyville United Methodist Church.
Votroubek, Elmer E.
Cemetery: Memory Gardens
Elmer E. Votroubek, 90, of Solon, died Monday, October 17, 2005 at home of a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 21, 2005 at Brosh Chapel, Solon with the Reverend Karen Nelson officiating. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am Friday at the Chapel prior to the service.
Survivors include his daughter Susan (Gary) Bates of Davenport; sons Don (Pam) of Coralville, Gary of Cedar Rapids, Jay of Iowa City and Ed (Jan) of Gilbert, AZ; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters Vlasta Stahle of Clearwater, Florida and Eleanor Cropp (George) of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Mabel Votroubek, his wife Virginia and brother Milt.
Elmer was born
May 30, 1915 in rural Johnson County, the son of Harry and Mabel Mundill Votroubek. He married Virginia Wilson September 24, 1938 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was employed as a welder in at Barber Greene in Aurora, Illinois.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
Zahradnik, Lumir George
Cemetery: Rogers Grove Cemetery
Lumir George Zahradnik, 81, of Ely died Wednesday night, October 19, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 24, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church near Ely with Reverend Bob David, officiating. Interment will follow at Rogers Grove Cemetery near Ely. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids where the will be a 6 pm Oddfellows service. and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Lumir was born
on November 7, 1923 in Ely the son of Joseph and Frances (Nemecek) Zahradnik. He married Viola Faltis on September 22, 1948 at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Lumir farmed for many years in the Ely area. He was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church near Ely where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, and chairman of the Property Management Committee. Lumir was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Sun City where he was a member of the Men’s Breakfast Club. In addition to his church memberships he was a longtime member of Ely Oddfellows Lodge #581 for sixty-one years where he served as Noble Grand Officer for many years. Lumir was a 50-year member of Ely Rebkah Lodge #56, a member of Linn County Farm Bureau where he served on the membership committee several times. He was chairman of Putman Township Trustees, a member of College Community Band Parents, Linn County Better Crops, and the Ely Town and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Viola Zahradnik of Ely; daughter Linda (Dave) Kvapil of Littleton, Colorado; sons Ron (Sandi) Zahradnik of Ely and Larry Zahradnik of Fallbrook, California; grandchildren Gayla Flesher, Jared Kvapil, Gloria Zahradnik, Ryan Zahradnik, Brandon Zahradnik, and Daniel Zahradnik; great-grandson Jordan Flesher; brother Milo Zahradnik of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Lumir was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank J. and William A. Zahradnik, sisters Agnes Smith, and Martha Chalaupka.
A memorial fund has been established for the First Presbyterian Church near Ely.
Friedl, Edith I.
Cemetery: St. John's Cemetery
Edith I. Friedl, was welcomed home by her Savior Friday October 28, 2005 after a short illness. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday November 1, 2005 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids with Monsignor Karl Glovik officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 3 to 7 pm on Monday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids where a rosary will begin at 7pm.
Survivors include her five children, Bernie Friedl and wife Sue, a daughter Jeanne Sylvester, all of Cedar Rapids, Marie Kasparek and husband Butch of Swisher, Dorothy Bartleson and husband Joel of Forest City, and Dick Friedl and wife Connie of Solon, fifteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a sister Flora Heitshusen, Amana, and a brother Gerald and wife Darlene of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francis in February 2005, her brother Carl Maas, and her parents.
Edith was born
January 8, 1921 in Homestead, Iowa to Diedrich Maas and Flora Wolter Maas. She was married to Francis on June 17, 1947. Before her marriage to Francis, Edith worked for Universal Engineering in Cedar Rapids. She was active in Catholic Daughters and was Grand Region of this organization from 1968-1969.
Edith’s life was lived with a deep commitment to her husband, children and her faith. She enjoyed simple pleasures in life always wanting to do an honest days work with little fanfare or praise. She was her children’s inspiration to live honestly and humbly. She will be missed but never forgotten.
